I personally can have an easy time rewatching episodes in the middle of long running arcs based on continuity. YYH is a good example. Many times I have rewatched "Death of a Spirit Detective" and "Attempting Revenge".

I dunno, I like when certain shows have ongoing storylines, but don't have each episode be a direct continuation of the next, and allow for most if not all episodes to be able to be seen on its own without much context of the whole story. Basically like the Cadmus era of JLU is my ideal.

Right. Just like in the 2nd paragraph of my previous post, I really prefer these types of stories to anything else. You get the great writing and character development that comes with an overarching story that has more time for development, but you also get the higher re-watch value of episodic shows since each episode still contains a self-contained story that can be enjoyed on it's own terms.

Spark Of Spirit

I honestly don't have a preference. Episodic can be just as continuity-heavy as a story arc without being as blatant so I think they can both eventually offer the same level of enjoyment.

It's probably why the space western trilogy was so popular. They were a mixture of both and succeeded at both.

I don't think I could do a top animated show list. My #1 would just be a combination of SpongeBob, Batman, and Yu Yu Hakusho. I really can't rank any one of them over the other because I like them equally for their own reasons. I think I could do a top 10 animated movie list, though. I'll just need time first.

Nice picks. I'm actually surprised you chose Toy Story 3 as your highest ranked Pixar movie, over Up and Monsters Inc. I agree with your decision to have it on this list, though.

Glad to see Fantasia there. I think I'm still the only member here who's not a fan of Nightmare Before Christmas. It has its good aspects though. Some really good aspects.

You might be the first member I've seen here who has called Toy Story 2 the best in the trilogy. My favorite is 3, but 2 is really great.

talonmalon333

Okay, so my top 3 is mostly a tie. It can flip all around at any moment. But if I decided on an order at the moment, right now I suppose it'd go...

1. The Lion King
2. Fantasia
3. Beauty and the Beast
4. Toy Story 3
5. Pinocchio
6. Bambi
7. Toy Story/Toy Story 2 (don't feel like breaking this tie)
8. Up
9. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
10. Grave of the Fireflies

So much Disney, but that's me.

Aww, not a Dumbo fan?

I haven't seen that one in over 10 years. It'll likely find it's way onto that list when I rewatch it.

I really feel like it's just about everything Disney set out to do in a package-sized film. I'll be interested to see how you feel about it.

3. Trigun
2. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo
1. South Park

Edited the order of my list a little bit. The Greatest Animated Series competition has gotten me thinking about all the cartoons I really like, and there are a lot of them. 25 series really doesn't encompass everything I hold dearly, so I'm going to extend this into a Top 50 list instead.
50. Batman Beyond
49. Pani Poni Dash!
48. Superman: The Animated Series
47. Puella Magi Madoka Magica
46. Courage, the Cowardly Dog
45. Ugly Americans
44. Dexter's Laboratory
43. The Powerpuff Girls
42. Space Ghost: Coast to Coast
41. The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
40. Ed, Edd, n'Eddy
39. Azumanga Daioh
38. Samurai Champloo
37. Black Lagoon
36. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
35. Lupin the Third (the first two series and The Woman Called Fujiko Mine)
34. Case Closed
33. Justice League/Unlimited
32. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
31. Drawn Together
30. Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law
29. Batman: The Animated Series
28. Spongebob Squarepants (seasons 1-5)
27. Batman: The Brave and the Bold
26. The Venture Bros.

50 seems like a lot, but I didn't have to reach for any of them. I really do love that many cartoons immensely, and honestly, there's even more I like that I didn't list here. Guess I'm not so great at being selective, eh?  :il_hahaha:

Spark Of Spirit

1. Trigun
2. King Of The Hill
3. Batman: The Brave & The Bold
4. Cowboy Bebop
5. Yu Yu Hakusho
6. Spectacular Spider-Man
7. Martian Successor Nadesico
8. Monster
9. Gargoyles
10. DuckTales

Still some missing, though. Just to add, the gaps between the ones next to each other isn't all that big.

10- Cowboy Bebop
9- Yu Yu Hakusho
8- Neon Genesis Evangelion
7- Spectacular Spider-Man
6- Gargoyles
5- Daria
4- Batman: The Animated Series
3- King of the Hill
2- Archer
1- Ed, Edd n' Eddy

EEnE is still my go-to toon of choice, but the only one of its kind that I REALLY seem to come back to. I also haven't been too interested in anime lately, which is why I tuckered those few together in the tail-end. Simpsons was nearly on the list too.
