LD Talkback #210

A HUUUUUUUUUGE return to form after the overblown extravagances of the Brosnan-era. Daniel Craig debuts in a stylish, elegant thriller we haven't seen the likes of since the early Connery days.

The first scene reminds me of the first interrogation in Splinter Cell Conviction.

Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

I do have to confess that I find this film to be just a tad overrated. Don't get me wrong, on the whole its brilliant, but there are problems I have with it. The first third of the film past the artful prologue and the intense opening chase scene is slow and honestly a tad boring even if it is necessary for setting up the plot as well as showing us that Daniel Craig's James Bond is a very different Bond than what we've known from the past films. Also, while the movie picks up considerably by the middle of its 2nd act, I can't help but think about how it feels like a good spy drama with cool action scenes thrown in, yet it never really feels like a Bond movie to me, but then again maybe that was the intention, and possibly for the better. Still, I wouldn't call this my favorite Bond film even if it may "technically" be the best and most serious one. That said, its a damn good one and still probably one of the best. I just don't consider it to be as perfect as everyone else does.

Top 3 bond for sure. Excellent, excellent movie.

I can't decide whether Casino Royale or Goldeneye is better. Did I mention that I'm a Martin Campbell fan yet?

If you liked those, you'll definitely like Martin Campbell's work in Edge of Darkness (the miniseries, not the movie).

Pretty much. It's a good film, but I'm not the biggest fan of Daniel Craig's Bond and QOS did little to change that.
