Seriously, no heartfelt goodbye threads or anything. That tells you something...
She's earned that deafening silence.

After that 1 thread where Zac went on and trolled the place, I agree.

Welp, can't say that I care much about this news, since I never really enjoyed her videos to begin with. Really, her ramblings was one of the things that made me lose focus every time I watch her videos.

I didn't plan to, but I just read through that thread from the point you linked.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised at all the scorn JO is getting on this forum. I feel nothing but genuine pity for her after reading that meltdown. She's clearly a broken woman, and she has been long before she met Zac. He merely helped bring her dark side out into the open, and now they're building an "us vs the world" codependency, sealing it with marriage. Her life is a tragedy unfolding, and I can't bring myself to hate her despite her despicable behavior.

If you put your egos aside, guys, I think you'll see what I mean. She's an open book, so don't lower yourselves to her level of pettiness.

I haven't really been keeping up with this stuff as I have no interest in TGWTG, but I agree with you. She's definitely become fairly insipid as of late on Twitter, but I feel like she is probably not a bad person, and there's most certainly something very depressing going on behind the scenes.

Why am I not surprised you'd look for a reason to defend her? Heck, you probably agree with all the shitty things she's said.

That woman is a hateful cunt who has constantly insulted people with disabilities and never stopped despite being told by other TGWTG contributors to do so. What the hell does "probably not a bad person" even mean anyway? Is she as bad as Fidel Castro or Pol Pot? No, but so what? She's still an insecure, unattractive "feminist" who contributes nothing to the world except noise. The only depressing part of this story is that there are far too many girls her age who are the same way and have been conditioned by society to never try to improve themselves and never try and make something decent of themselves. Because misogyny and all that.

God almighty I can't even believe anyone would defend her.

goody2shoes

How can you despise her when the two of you are so similar? ;)

Why am I not surprised you'd insult me while using the word "feminist" as a pejorative? I loathe the way she treats other people and the shitty things she says - I just think it's good to have a little empathy and wonder where that stuff came from, since unlike a lot of internet assholes, she didn't always act this way. I also never knew she attacked people with disabilities, which is deplorable, though I guess that's kind of like calling people you dislike "autistic," isn't it?

Dalek, CX, Daxdiv, and myself never said anything about despising her or anything overly offensive about her. I even stated that I used to enjoy her output. We were however rightfully calling her out on all of the BS that she had been saying, and her out of control behavior. It could be problems with depression or whatever, and I'm not saying anything offensive about that, but it doesn't mean that someone can't be criticized for the things that they have done or said, like when JO went as far as to make fun of JW mere months after he had tragically committed suicide due to severe depression. I see no fault in pointing out bad behavior and being honest by saying that we aren't really going to miss her as an anime reviewer on the Internet.

Anyways, I only responded because you made it a point to group all of us together like that, yet I don't really think that any of us were out of line, there.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Also, I should point out that I know a thing or two about depression. I have a close family member who's suffering from bipolar disorder and has been for several years, so I know what it's like to feel bad for them and want to help them in any way that you can, even when your efforts feel futile. Even then, my family and I don't let it be an excuse to let him get away with whatever behavior he wants. Part of supporting him also means to point out when he's out of line, and if his condition gets very bad, then we must force him to get immediate psychological and medical attention.

Basically, I'm not an insensitive person, but since I don't know JO in person, I still don't see anything wrong with criticizing the downright horrible things that she has said about other human beings.

If he only read the TGWTG thread, he probably didn't know about the worst things she said. And even so, I think it's valid to try and examine where her awful behavior came from through an empathetic lens. I have never liked JO, even back when she wasn't insulting people on Twitter all day, but that doesn't mean I can't feel sorry for her. This doesn't mean I think she's in the right, because she's not, and the things she says piss me off as much as any of you, but it's hard not to wonder how a decent person could suddenly become as vitriolic as the people she claims to hate.

I agree with you. She is almost certainly going through a dark time, but instead of helping her through it, her friends are enabling it and probably making it worse by supporting her terrible behavior. Someone suffering from depression does not need to be told they're right all the time, they need someone to understand them and help them realize how they can make themselves not feel like a piece of shit.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

I'm not saying not to feel sorry for her. I understand that, but I'm just saying that it's not wrong to criticize the things that she's said either. I don't think that anything that Dalek, CX, Daxdiv, or myself said were really out of line or offensive. All we said was that it's not a surprise that she's leaving given her lack of content in the past few years, and that we won't really miss her because of the deplorable things that she has been saying over the past year.

I agree that she clearly has her own demons that she needs to fight, but even so, I don't think that we need to turn a blind eye to the offensive things that she has written, either.

goody2shoes

Dr. Ensatsu-ken: I wasn't addressing your posts (I agree with them). I just felt like the resentment and mockery some posts contained in the last few pages was a bit excessive. I should've been clearer what I was talking about, sorry.

Il Juude

Does anybody know who was on JO's last two videos. Because whoever was talking in them was TOTALLY not her. How can that even be based on her behaviour on Twitter?

Skeeter Valentine

No, it's her all right.

She sounds pretty horrible now.

Il Juude

So Hope wrote some megapost regarding her opinion on Cross Ange. You think she would've whistled a different tune if it were men doing it to one another?
