Well, I got so burned out on the road
Too many fags, too much blow
And then Mick and I split up and I said,
"Kid, it's time to take a little bit of a hiatus."
So I got myself a gig at the coffee shop
and I love it.
Why don't you take that corner booth,
I'll take your order in a minute...

My guilty pleasure track of 2012.

And probably my #3 choice for best single of 2012, behind GYHAB and "Somebody That I Used to Know".
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Queensryche- "Jet City Women"

Have you ever taken the time to just sit down and listen to their lyrics? They are such strong writers. I especially love this bit.

"I look in your eyes, just like the rain
Washing me, rain wash over me"

This is pretty much a love song throughout, like a lot of tracks from the album, but the guitar harmonies tends to hide that from less astute listeners. But what stands out to me is just how they describe her eyes. Obviously they're blue, but Geoff Tate is able to paint this imagery without directly saying that, and compare them to one of rock lyricism's greatest stereotypes- the rain. He does so in a tasteful and believable fashion, especially based off of Tate's performance, and he leads right into the next line, again using rain to describe the scenario, this time his own well-being at seeing his love go away. It's a basic comparison, but done really well in parallel companionship here, like a tag-team act.

Sorry if you found that annoying, but I'm having a Queensryche night. I really want to check them out with their new singer.

Accept- "Aiming High"

They get a little overlooked from me, but Accept are a very important act in the metal world with a lot of classics such as this.

Genesis - "Misunderstanding"

It's like Phil Collins is narrating my life right now, and I seriously wish he would stop.

#1106
Working over my top XXX-many Best Singles of the 80's list, since expanding it to 300- which was harder than I thought. I didn't realize I'd be making so many cuts after I came up with my first 100 list; I have 2 separate lists, one for 1-100 and 101-200. Wound end editing ALL 200 of the previous, switching a lot, kicking 2 off the list (of 300, now) entirely (Living Colour - "Cult of Personality" and Duran Duran - "Planet Earth")... Lot of work. But... I think I'd stand by the list now.

Which I might be posting here pretty soon.
