No Doubt - Settle Down

... This sounds like Gwen's solo stuff again.

I'm still confused as to why their material without a keyboard player has boatloads more synth than the stuff with him. It's called a piano, guys- Slower songs sound way better with it instead of synth.

All in all, why did this take so long to come out? It sounds exactly like Rocksteady.

New Motley Crue too?  Damn.  Well Looks That Kill would be a cool song to learn, or Live Wire.

I'm gonna go with Brain Stew.

But there are a lot of new albums coming out. Yeesh.

No, although that one's probably not too tough to play.

It was this one:

Well before we trash new ND, let's not forget that "Tattoo" sucked as well, but the new Van Halen turned to be pretty good besides that.

But wow, this is NOT a good sign no matter what.

Jesus, this sounds more like Rihanna than No Doubt or even solo Gwen. How the fuck did they do that.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Huh, never would have guessed that. I think the first song Mark Hoppus learned to play was Going To Pasalaqua.

There's an album preview for Push & Shove out there... It's pretty much more of this. :/

I wasn't expecting an album as strange as the self-titled, as alternative as Beacon Street, or as great as Tragic Kingdom... But I was hoping for at least a fun pop rock album like Return Of Saturn (only without the ton of filler) again. Rocksteady was one of the few times I've ever called a band a sell out, and it's a shame that they've continued down this path.

Can we just have a good old fashion pop rock song on the pop charts for once?

Seriously, listen to "Settle Down" again and put this on. Can you tell the difference?

There's no identity to this song. It isn't as offensive as "Hey Baby", but it's even more boring, which is just sad.

The thing is, No Doubt already had a good pop sound before that terrible song. Spiderwebs, Open The Gate, Trapped In A Box, Bathwater, and even Underneath It All (one of the few Rocksteady songs I enjoy) are all really good songs that have way more character than this stuff.

Now they sound like everything else out there.  :bleh:

I didn't know that, I just knew that he learned how to play bass from Cure songs.

Well next up on the sink or swim ship is Aerosmith.

I'm hoping they pull off a miracle with this one. But if there's any ballads on here I swear to god...

Speaking of No Doubt, I always wondered why they cut off the end of Spiderwebs on the album? The last minute really makes the song, IMO.

Weren't their last like 5 hits ballads?

As much as I want to hear a fun rocker again, it doesn't seem like anyone else wants them.

Pretty much.

They supposedly got their producer from the 2-5th albums back and are trying to recreate their sound from those albums. The tours where they did Toys in the Attic and Rocks all the way through was supposed to be a teaser for that. But I dunno, it's hard to trust Steven Tyler ever since he relapsed.

I would hope they could.

Ever since Cheap Trick came out with Rockford, though, I've been pretty optimistic with bands being able to connect with their roots while still sounding their age. Fantastic stuff.

It's totally doable, as long as they put their heart and soul into it.

Yeah, Van Halen and The Cars did it well too. So did The Beach Boys, from what I heard of he new album (I didn't play it all, since I wanted to wait for when I buy it).

It's not impossible.

Edit: Oh, and Maiden too. But that's kinda obvious that they're still pulling it out well.
