What do all these series have in common?
They're all dead.
Goodbye, Konami. If you can't succeed with IPs like this, then you shouldn't be in the industry. Extra hate points for dragging Hudson down with you.
At least Capcom seem to be improving, and in their case I hope they turn things around. I've never cared about Konami since the NES days ended. MGS and Silent Hill were the only things holding them up, and their utter laziness with their numerous catalog of games is why I don't really care if they somehow crumbled (so long as their IPs went somewhere good). They apparently own a lot of slot machines and pachinko games (and I think they still produce certain animes if I'm not mistaken), so I don't think they'll ever completely fall. :immad: :bleh:
Konami and Sega are actually both doing quite well financially because of pachinko and such. They're only incompetent at publishing video games.
That's why their video game arm is going to be shut down.
And well it should. It's well earned.

Sums up what I wanted to say in Survival Horror but forgot to.
At least Capcom has Ace Attorney.
Resident Evil too, now that we have the Revelations series. 2 was even better than the first game which was already good.

How many developers are dead now, anyway? It seems like a lot.
Spark's going to tell you in 3..2..1..
Studios the HD generation buried. (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=459131)
But that isn't Konami's (or Capcom's, or Square Enix's) problem. Their problem comes from a total lack of direction and respect for their IPs or fanbases. Square-Enix seems to be turning around, and Capcom seems to be flailing in the wind, but Konami has mismanaged every single IP of theirs (that's not Metal Gear) since the PS2 generation ended.
I think Square-Enix is a good publisher. In fact, one of the better ones these days. They just happen to be good at producing everything except JRPGs, it seems. :D
Quote from: http://jin115.com/archives/52080348.htmlOur main platform will be mobiles. Following the pay-as-you-play model of games like Power pro and Winning Eleven with additional content, our games must move from selling things like "items" to selling things like "features."
QuoteWe saw with these games that even people who buy physical games are motivated to buy extra content. The success of Power pro especially has motivated us to actively push more of our popular series onto mobile than ever before.
QuoteGaming has spread to a number of platforms, but at the end of the day, the platform that is always closest to us, is mobile. Mobile is where the future of gaming lies.
QuoteWe hope that our overseas games such as MGSV and Winning Eleven continue to do well, but we are always thinking about how to push our franchises onto mobile there too.
QuoteWith multiplatform games, there's really no point in dividing the market into categories anymore. Mobiles will take on the new role of linking the general public to the gaming world.
Someone, anyone, please take all of Konami's properties away from them, please.
Just 3 and a half months left until Phantom Pain comes out... Konami can go bankrupt after that for all I care.
I wonder if the bad blood between them and Kojima was due to a difference of opinion in regards to this mobile garbage.
I really do hope there is a mobile game crash in the near future. Companies like Konami deserve it quite badly.
Sell Axelay, Salamander / Life Force, and Gradius to Treasure and Castlevania, Rocket Knight Adventures, Sunset Riders, Goemon, and Contra to Nintendo and get out of gaming. You won't be missed.

Also, Silent Hill. That can't be sold to Nintendo, but they need to sell it to
someone. Someone we can trust with that type of game.
Of course, there's also Metal Gear... and it's time we lay it to rest. Just let it end with MSGV, a game that will supposedly be fantastic. Let Metal Gear end with more dignity than Konami.

Forgot about that. In that case, perhaps Nintendo can get Silent Hill.
Nintendo can get Silent Hill and Suikoden (and rehire Murayama to manage it) and outsource them to the Fatal Frame team and Monolith Soft.
Guaranteed the series would have futures at that point.

Of course it will.
Quote from: http://gematsu.com/2015/06/40-minute-metal-gear-solid-v-phantom-pain-e3-2015-gameplay-walkthroughWhile it is true that a few micro-transactions options do exist, the entire game has been carefully balanced to be enjoyable with or without using these options. There's no pay-to-win option. Rest assured that every single item, weapon, and mission in the game is available to all players without paying a single cent. However, due to the sheer scale of the game and the time required to explore it all, micro-transactions were added as a completely optional feature for players who might not be able to spend as much time with the game. Nothing more, nothing less.
That's better, I suppose. As long as they aren't purposefully gimping aspects of the game, it's all... well, not
good, but fine.

Is there a another source besides Angry Joe? I don't love or hate the guy, but a number of people here aren't big fans of him I don't think. Regardless, we need a printed source.
That reminds me... did they ever add his name back to the print advertisements?
Since it seems like no other interviewers have asked them about the Kojima thing recently (and I'm sure most would, under normal circumstances), I'm inclined to believe Angry Joe.
Quote from: Spark Of Spirit on July 07, 2015, 06:40:54 PM

I don't think so. Also, the Kojima Productions logo is still in the game, but apparently it "might" be removed before release.
Seriously... what happened? What went down between Konami and Kojima?
I have a feeling that Phantom Pain went enormously over budget, and that Kojima outright refused to do any more Metal Gear games after its release. I doubt Konami would have taken well to either of those things.
The thing is, Konami seems to be so against Kojima lately, it almost seems personal. :P
Well, if he really did spend 7 years working on a single game while using up more of their funds than they were comfortable allowing in the process, then refused to continue pumping out installments in their only money-making franchise, I can kind of understand their point of view.
But it's shortsighted. No matter how much money was spent on it, MGS5 is bound to become one of the most critically and commercially successful games of all time. And Kojima's name alone sells games by the truckload, especially in the west. They could have had their cake and eaten it too if they'd let him stick around for Silent Hills while simultaneously farming out endless MGS sequels to some shitty 3rd party development studio.
Konami is looking for an excuse to dump their traditional gaming division. It's dead weight and isn't profitable enough. Get rid of Kojima and that's it for the traditional gaming division. Anything else is just an excuse to finally cut him loose and scrap the whole thing. No one else is left there.
Kojima Productions has disbanded. (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/kojima-productions-has-disbanded-says-metal-gear-s/1100-6428811)
That's it. We've reached end game.
Konami got exactly what they wanted.
Now if only they'd sell off their IPs then we'd never have to hear their name again.
Sad thing is I can see them keeping some of their old IP's and reviving them...as pachinko games.
:srs:
They could have sold off their IPs and made a ton of money a long time ago if they wanted. It really does feel like they want to screw the fans of their games division over. Who runs Konami anyway?
Konami's newest plans for Castlevania: Erotic Pachinko Machines (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Uk83ceNRo8)
Erotic Violence!!!!!1
And that's the lowering of the casket.
Up next: Metal Gear!
Hold on, what?
When a Konami series is dead, they turn it into a pachinko game. They've done it with everything from Goemon to Contra. Once they make a pachinko game, the series is never given any attention by Konami again.

I don't mind Metal Gear dying with Konami if Kojima really intended the upcoming game to be the last in the series.
Then again, if Konami keeps Metal Gear, will that mean the series will never see any ports again?
Konami Heritage Survey (http://mobilesurvey.blicx.com/)
I have no idea why Silent Hill and Metal Gear are not there, but look at the ones they included. They even included Bomberman. Those franchises deserve so much more. I don't know if this is "official", but I figured it worth posting here anyway. All those properties deserve better.

You should probably specify that it's specifically the PC retail version of the game that's a total fuck-up on Konami's part.
That doesn't make the act any less despicable, but it is a tad misleading to refer to the retail release in general, which would also include the consoles.

Silent Hill
1999-2015
Your spirits will live on in Allison Road
Now Allison Road has been cancelled. (http://gamerant.com/allison-road-cancel)
Was going to post here about that. Ugh, that was the one thing we had to alleviate Silent Hill's shuttering and now for whatever reason its also gone. :( Hopefully someday someone will be able to release a Silent Hill successor.

Not only that, but Resident Evil 7 was revealed at E3, and it looks EXACTLY like P.T./Allison Road!!!
I just played the RE7 demo. Wouldn't really compare it much to PT upon doing so, but it was still very cool. Even though it's first-person, the DNA of classic Resident Evil is definitely in there, and I'm quite excited to play the full version now. :)
Now they're killing off Yu-Gi-Oh Online. (http://motherboard.vice.com/read/yu-gi-oh-online)

Saw AlphaOmegaSin give a video about that. Like he said, I feel sorry for this guy. Even if Konami is serious, they have far more bad blood from the fans than Capcom and Square combined. At least the latter two have started learning from their mistakes, but there's no guarantee Konami would even be able to fix things without bumbling further.
There's not much he can do when it's the Japanese branch that is screwing everything up.
A trailer for a new Metal Gear game was released today at Gamescom.
And it looks nothing like Metal Gear. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3hjRKGrC40)
Its an Alternate Reality game which means it isn't supposed be in the main series. Still awfully redundant to put Metal Gear's name on it.
But hey, we should all be grateful it isn't a pachinko game, right? Right? ;)
If only they had a horror franchise this concept might make more sense in.

Yeah, if only there had been something in the works while Kojima was working for them.....
Allison Road is back on track! (http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/08/22/allison-road-pt-spiritual-successor-revived) :joy:
Konami has trademarked the Turbografx. (http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/12/06/konami-files-new-trademark-for-turbografx)
???
Well they released some TG-16 games on the Wii U Virtual Console. It would make sense to keep the trademark around since they own Hudson.
Well...holy shit. Konami did something RIGHT. (https://twitter.com/gamespite/status/819938711232278529/photo/1)
We don't know that it won't suck so I wouldn't give them a pat on the back just yet.
If you love Bomberman, it won't suck. Bomberman Live is pretty bare bones but as a big fan of the series, it still had a lot of replay value.
What the fuck is happening? (http://www.dualshockers.com/2017/04/02/konami-recruitment-ads-feature-forgotten-series-metal-gear-suikoden-castlevania)
Clearly Konami wants to hire fans of these series.
...in order to make more Pachislots about them.
Even if they do release games for these series, they could end up hiring a bunch of dumb hipsters that aren't even "fans" of these games.
It's been a while since they've tried to pull some shit.

It looks like Konami is going the SimCity route for Metal Gear: Survive.
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/metal-gear-survive-requires-an-internet-connection/1100-6454372
Do you want to save your game in Metal Gear Survive?
It's a microtransaction. (https://www.polygon.com/2018/2/23/17042242/metal-gear-survive-sv-coins-boosts-character-save-slots-micotransactions-konami)
That's a new low. Even for Konami's standards, that's just low.
They've been pretty garbage for over a decade now, a game or two here and there aside.

Konami is making gaming PCs now. (https://kotaku.com/konami-launches-a-line-of-gaming-pcs-1844541222)
I think I saw the news yesterday about Kojima been back to work or something like that. And while I'm not the one to talk to about Death Stranding, I do wonder if he's going to go for something new or keep going with that game.
Konami is handing its IPs to other studios. (https://bloody-disgusting.com/video-games/3652815/konami-reportedly-open-outsourcing-metal-gear-castlevania-ip)
