Not a single Contra game! FAIL LIST IS-oh I'm kidding it's a pretty good list.
Love Contra, but I definitely prefer Metal Slug. My top 50 features a lot of the other Metal Slugs and a few Contras. ;)

I thought you liked Metal Slug X and XX more than 3?
I don't think I ever preferred XX. I used to like X more, but I think 3 holds up better. For reference, my favorites are 3, X, XX, and 1, in that order.

How would you rate Gunforce 2 with them?  ;)

I agree with that. The first 3 Metal Slugs (with the X version of 2) are excellent.

Man, whatever you do, don't play the arcade versions of Contra or Super C, they really don't stack up. Though you might dig Shattered Soldier.

Have you played the Turrican games? There are quite a few of them and they feel almost like Metroid (with less exploration, obviously) meets Contra (with more platforming) and are usually very good games. I haven't played the Amiga versions of the first 3 games, but the SNES Super Turrican and Super Turrican 2 are awesome, as well as the Genesis Mega Turrican. The NES Turrican isn't have bad either.

Ah, yeah, forgot about Shattered Soldier. I'd probably put that between Contra and Metal Slug. Also, I edited Sunset Riders into my list before you posted. ;)

Contra meets Metroid with more platforming!? Why the hell haven't I heard about this series?!

I wish he told me that when I asked what the game was like last week.

Also, thanks for showing Hard Corps some love.

Sunset Riders is the best arcade game ever.

It's been unfortunately dead since the N64/PS1/Saturn era. But everysystem before them except the Master System had a Turrican game or two and they were great.

Seriously, one of the best soundtracks EVER. This series needs a return.

To elaborate, it sort of feels like Metroid in the way it controls, but it's level based like Contra and has more platforming as well as weapon pick ups (not as insane as things like homing missiles or spread guns, but they're noticeable) and the games are pretty difficult.

The SNES and Genesis games are on the virtual console, too, so they're pretty accessible. Now if only they could get the Amiga on there so I could play the original 3, and put the NES one up as well, the entire series would be there.

So I'm almost done with my complete Resident Evil playthrough. About halfway through RE 4 right now. I love this game so much. I seriously think it might be the pinnacle of the action-adventure genre. It's like Indiana Jones meets James Bond in a horror scenario, which is just totally awesome. Also, "your right hand comes off?" may very well be the greatest line in video game history.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Its definitely one of the best action adventure games that I have ever played. It has everything going for it, from atmosphere and enriched exploration to intense action and cheesy dialogue. :sly:

If I had to criticize the game for anything, its probably that its just a little bit too easy. I know it has a professional mode, but once you start resorting back to the tried and true strategy of backing up to a corner and then blasting away enemies as they come close to you with a shotgun or well-placed head-shots, the difficulty barely feels any different from Normal mode. That said there is still tons of replay value in the game and its pretty much always fun to play. There aren't any parts of the game that I dread or downright hate playing through.

Foggle

What's weird is that the difficulty in the Wii/360/PS3 versions is actually toned down from the GameCube, PS2, and PC. I don't know if Capcom ever confirmed this, but it's a widely recognized fact by most RE fans. I played the game many times on the PS2, and it was actually pretty tough on Normal mode. The Wii version and HD ports (which are based off of the Wii release) are a lot easier for some reason. But there's still a decent level of challenge, so the game never gets boring.

I just love the amount of creativity and effort that was put into it. I'm also liable to give any game bonus points for including a mine cart level.

Have you gotten to play Separate Ways or Mercenaries yet? The former is a very fun little mission pack while the latter is addicting and surprisingly meaty.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

So far I haven't had time for either. Well, I did have time to play Separate Ways during my winter break, but since it kept freezing on me I have to yet again delete and re-download the game to get it to work properly. Anyways, I'll delve more into the game during my spring break in a couple of weeks, but for the time being I'm swamped with studying for exams. Honestly, the amount of shit that my school throws at students in their professional years can seem almost inhuman at times. I mean, I'm practically a slave to the school since my entire daily schedule involves me either being in classes, working on a paper or assignment, or studying my ass off. If I make it through this semester I'll still have another year of this to put up with, too....:whuh:

People have suspected the Wii version is easier than the GC one? How so?
