Favorite Games Ever (Besides Ninja Gaiden, Obviously)

I have extensively played both the PS2 and Wii versions, and this is what I've noticed:

Enemies take less hits to kill. This includes basically every enemy type except Regenerators/Iron Maidens and Novistadors. Bosses are mostly the same as they were in past versions, but El Gigantes seem to be a bit easier. It's not really a dramatic change, but it definitely makes things less intense in some of the more difficult areas.
Enemies are more likely to drop ammo when you're running low. You're not going to be swimming in bullets or anything, but you will usually have more than in the GC and PS2 versions. This is helped along by the enemies dying more quickly.
The knife aims and slices much faster.

I was exaggerating when I said "a lot" easier, but the newer ports are slightly toned down for some reason. It's not really a big deal, though. The challenge is still there, and the game is still harder than RE 5.

You think so? I actually remember RE5 being harder.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

From what I've played of RE5, I consider it to be harder on single-player mode, only because Sheva's AI is so ridiculously incompetent that you can't trust her with anything except for healing items (and even then she's prone to waste them if she damages herself a lot), and because from what I've experienced she tends to get herself killed a lot more than you do, but since this is one of those games in which if your partner dies its instant game over, you're pretty much shit out of luck if you don't have a competent 2nd player to control Sheva for you.

As for RE4, I've read somewhere that the Wii and HD versions of the game have certain differences from the GC and PS2 versions of the game. For one thing, certain enemy placements in certain areas of the game a little bit different. Its not frequent or anything, but I did read about one or 2 instances in which an enemy which was supposed to appear in one area in the GC version of the game did not appear in the updated Wii version in that area, and other minor stuff along those lines could be noted throughout each respective version of the game in comparison to each other.

Another difference that I read about was that weapon upgrade statistics differed between some versions of the game. For example, from what I've read, in the original GC version of the game I read that the max damage at the level cap for the Red 9 was somewhere around 4 or 4.5 in the damage rating (even after getting the exclusive upgrade), but in the HD version that I played it was at 6.5, which of course made it a massively overpowered weapon (though, to be fair, I didn't manage to upgrade it that far into close to the end of the game, anyways). Maybe I might be mistaken in this particular case, but I did definitely read somewhere that other statistical changes could be noted with various different weapons between different versions of the game, and it seems to be that the Wii and HD versions of the game got increased stats in some cases which may have contributed to them being a little bit easier than the previous versions of the game (since of course with higher damage ratings  and such, enemies would take significantly less hits to put down).

True, but I was mostly referring to coop, since the single player in that game is a disaster. :P

Yeah, that's better than I remember the Red9 getting.

Though I'm sure none of that hurts the quality of the game. ;)

RE 5 is certainly more intense, but aside from a couple of infuriating moments -- one being the dogs attacking you at the train yard early in the game, the other being MASH THE A/X BUTTON TO RIP THE DEVICE OFF -- I hardly ever died. This is comparing Normal modes, btw. Professional in RE 5 is much harder than 4's.

Yeah, like I said, the game is slightly easier, but not enough to affect the quality of the game.

Spark Of Spirit

Little Samson is such a good game. I really wish they would release it on the VC.

4 different characters that all play differently and have different strengths/weaknesses, 2 difficulty levels that change the level progression structure, lots of platforming, branching paths on the higher difficulty, lots of challenge, and it almost looks and sounds like a SNES game.

It's such a shame that it apparently bombed when it came out, because it's easily one of the best games on the NES.

I need to get Little Samson again. Definitely one of the best NES platformers.

So what would you guys say are "perfect games", games that you don't really see anything in them that you would change even in advances in technology or whatever? Obviously EK would say Ninja Gaiden Black, Foggle would say Deus Ex, gsf would say Astro Boy GBA, and talon would say Majora's Mask, (and Avaitor and I would say Super Mario Bros. 3) but I mean more than one game!  :P

Basically a game you can just pop in and have no problems or quibbles with, something (if time allowed) you would just play through 100 times in a sitting. Something you always come back to.

How many games do you have like that?

A shitload.

Deus Ex 1 & 3 (as you said)
Ratchet & Clank 2 & 3
God Hand
F.E.A.R., Extraction Point, F.E.A.R. 2
Super Mario Bros., Mario 3, Mario World, Yoshi's Island, New SMB Wii, Mario Galaxy 2
Fatal Frame 2-4
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Devil May Cry 3
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox/PS3)
Bayonetta
Max Payne 1 & 2
MadWorld
Metal Slug X, 3, XX
Link To The Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina Of Time, Majora's Mask (Wind Waker is my favorite overall, but it's not perfect like these are IMO)
Persona 2: Innocent Sin
Planescape: Torment (though the fact that it's far better with mods might disqualify it from being on this list...)
Resident Evil [Remake] (does this count since it's a remake?), RE 4
Yakuza 2-4
Metal Gear Solid, MGS 3
Thief 2: The Metal Age
Hitman: Blood Money
Serious Sam First & Second Encounters, Serious Sam 3: BFE
Painkiller
Silent Hill 2, 3 (the bad voice acting in 2 is part of the charm ;) )
Doom 1, 2
Duke Nukem 3D
Super Metroid, Zero Mission

I think that's everything. ;D

talonmalon333

I might actually sooner say Twilight Princess over Majora's Mask, just cause that game mastered the series formula so perfectly. That might sound contradictory cause I like MM slightly better. But this is how I look at it: if TP is Zelda at it's best, MM is Zelda on drugs. :P

Spark Of Spirit

DOOM II is still the most perfect FPS to me. While there are a few I like better (like Perfect Dark and the new GoldenEye), it is probably the only one where I wouldn't really change a thing about it.

Also, while I love Super Metroid... I would absolutely change the wall jumping. I hate wall jumping in that game. But I have no issue with Fusion or Zero Mission.

Sidescrolling action games like the Contra and Metal Slug series are hard for me to rate. Contra NES, Gunstar Heroes, and Metal Slug 3 are practically perfect to me. Metal Slug X improves over 2 in pretty much every fashion, so that might make it for me too. The same with Contra 4. I'd also list Jackal NES, despite being overhead instead of sidescrolling, the game is brilliant.

Mario and Sonic games... Well, I'll just list them:

Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA)
Super Mario Bros. 3
Yoshi's Island
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Sonic The Hedgehog (8-bit)
Sonic The Hedgehog (I could say Labyrinth, but I've now accepted it for what it is, and it no longer bothers me)
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles

Basically those.

But since I could list platformers all day, let me just list the ones I consider basically flawless for what they're doing:

Duck Tales
Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers
Ninja Gaiden II
Little Samson
Rockin' Kats
Mega Man 3
Shinobi 3 (I would have said the hanging controls, but I learned how to jump with them, so it's fine)
World Of Illusion Staring Mickey & Donald
Kirby Super Star
Mega Man X
Super Castlevania 4
Tomba! (Unless being able to actually purchase it is a fault... in which case it's off!  :P)
Goemon's Great Adventure
Maximo: Ghosts To Glory
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Kirby's Return To Dreamland

I actually listed a lot more than I thought I would. I would consider those pretty perfect.

I think I'd give to edge to F.E.A.R. 1 and Duke Nukem 3D, but yeah, Doom 1 & 2 are brilliant masterpieces.

Never had a problem with Super Metroid's wall-jumping, really. Don't have any issue with RE's tank controls, either. Everything I listed I'd consider absolutely perfect (I guess I'm easy to please :P), which is why a lot of my other favorites like No More Heroes and Jak 2 are nowhere to be seen.

Sonic The Hedgehog (I could say Labyrinth, but I've now accepted it for what it is, and it no longer bothers me)
I fucking hate Spring Yard. Labyrinth is fine. Spring Yard can go die in a fire. Rest of the game is excellent, including Labyrinth, IMO.

Spark Of Spirit

WHAT?!?

I LOVE SPRING YARD! It's one of my favorite Sonic levels! It has some great paths, good platforming, and lots of steep hills for rolling. The boss is a bit of a joke compared to pretty much every other boss in the game, but I still like it. Really, I love that level! I can't believe you hate it!

As for the wall jumping, I can rarely ever get it to work half the time. I usually get stuck in the first wall jumping section because I have to re-adapt to it all over again when playing it. Other than that, it absolutely rules.

Oh yeah, I'd also list every 2D Zelda after the NES made by Nnitendo up to the DS.

I just... I don't know. I don't find it fun at all. The problems I have with it are pretty similar to the problems most people have with Labyrinth, really. I don't like the level design, the enemy placement, the enemies themselves, or the music. I've never been able to derive enjoyment from that zone.

Hmmm, I don't think I have any games that I can play multiple times in a row because I seem to be OCD or whatever but Astro Boy Omega Factor seems to come the closest when it comes to be perfect in all areas. Did I mention how much I love how shocking the first ending is (could be my absolute favorite one) and how ingenious it is for Treasure to have meeting characters for the first time give you a point to boost youe stats? God, I love that. Aaannnddd I actually was just reminded that the game's a shoot em up/beat em up. Ah yes, perfect.

I'm honestly not that big on replay value. It's either I wish I could just replay a game right after I beat it but I'm almost never compelled too or maybe developers aren't doing enough for me. :sly:

I think I do have my game that really fits this description though. Metal Slug 3. Just plain perfect. I can see myself playing the game over and over again just for the zombie level. I have yet to play Metal Slug X so I can't speak for 2 yet because of the framerate drops but hot damn did I fall in love with that game from playing it online gametap and going through the lab level.
