Did you read my post at all. :> I haven't played Hard Corps since I was a teen. In my heart, it's still my favorite shoot em up but it's been too long to justify it's always super high spot.

Well, I meant in the top ten, but I see your point.

I meant I can't rank it at all because it's been so long.

Oh god, I forgot to include F.E.A.R. in my list of top games from last gen! :shit: Good thing we're counting it as part of the gen the PC version released during. :D

I'll probably post some lists later. There's gonna' be a lot of overlap with yours, though. ;)

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

It's really iffy with games that are releases so close to transitional periods, but in my mind, the original F.E.A.R. releases on the PC in October of 2005 missed being counted as a last gen title by about a month, since the XBOX360 came out in November, and IMO, that's the official start of last gen.

It's the same with the Dreamcast, which I've never been sure if it ranks as a 5th or 6th generation console, so I ultimately decided that the PS2 marked the beginning of the 6th gen, and decided to include DC games released before that period of time as 5th gen games, and anything released after that point to be 6th gen, hence why SA 1 and 2 are split up between generations for me.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Extended the list by another 5 entries because I just remembered some more awesome games that I forgot. Christ! I can't believe how insanely loaded last generation was when it came to high quality games, both high and low-profile. The funny thing is that I STILL have room for more entries, and have to restrain myself from extending the lie out further. And, mind you, I really do love all of these games. I'm not just including them on the list for the sake of it. To me, they are all highly replayable and really worth just about anyone's time.

Desensitized, I know that the 6th gen wasn't your thing when it came to the severe lack of great 2D platformers, and I can certainly understand that, but looking back on how you used to say that the whole generation blew, surely even you can't deny that it had arguably the best offering of 3D action games of all time. It really is my personal favorite generation in that regard, though I'd say that I like the 4th gen just as much, and would probably like it even more if I played more of the lesser known, but still high quality titles from that generation, which to me was the definitive best generation for 2D gaming in general.

Sixth generation is the best of all time IMO. I can name more amazing games on the PS2 alone than I can for other gens across all consoles. And that's not even getting into the awesome exclusives for GC, Xbox, DC, GBA, and PC...

If we're talking 3D, there's some excellent stuff. I just didn't like how lopsided the gen was. And before you mention I'm lacking NGB and Devil May Cry, they were on there until I remembered a few other games. It was hard pairing them down to 20.

The 16-bit generation will probably always be my favorite, but I can't deny there's been a lot of great stuff since.

Awesome list! And I can't believe that I forgot about Crash Bandicoot: Warped. I used to play the shit out of that game when I was a kid.

Fourth generation is easily my second favorite. The SNES and Genesis are nearly unrivaled to this day.

I'm honestly surprised you included Jak 2 over NGB and DMC, though. I thought you didn't like the Jak sequels.

I actually always assumed that you just never played that much of NGB since you said that the 3D games are too hard to get into (and you never really talked about any of it, before that). :D

To be fair, I can't blame you, either way. The game is punishing at first and has a learning curve, but I've always found it to be the perfect balance between simple design and nuanced gameplay mechanics, myself, which is probably why it resonated so well with me from the get-go.

Well, the way that I see it, 4th gen was indisputably the best for 2D games, and the 6th gen basically did the same for 3D games. To me they are both qualified to be the best for what they excel at, so it all comes down to which kinds of games that you prefer. Your 4th gen list does make me realize how many gems I need to go back and play, though. Actually, the same applies to you 5th gen list as well. I actually remember playing Tomba!, but it was so long ago. I also need to experience more games from your 3rd gen list.

I liked everything about Jak II other than the story and the overworld mssions. If we're talking pure action/platforming gameplay, it was awesome and was so, so close to topping the original. I probably shouldn't rate it in the top 20, but those platforming missions were some of my all-time favorites.

I actually liked the story, but I agree that the overworld missions got old before long. If it was just straight platforming/shooting like Ratchet & Clank, it'd be all time top 10 material for me, easy.
