I'm going to keep high hopes for this... But deep down, I know they will fuck it up royally.  :wth:
That picture... is that seriously a man? Good lord.

This could be okay, maybe. I liked the Detroit Metal City movie and the Battle Royale film well enough, so maybe this'll be good, too!

Oh, and welcome to the forum, Heavy Traffic! ;D

Well, Kenshin did always have that very feminine appearance in both the manga and the anime, despite his gender, so I guess it kind of fits his "stature" like they said. I'll keep optimistic about this since Kenshin could actually translate well enough into live-action, but more in the sense of a more realistic take on in terms of the action and actual set-up of it (much like how Batman Begins and The Dark Knight is trying to be a more realistic adaptation of Batman, though of course "realistic" is only a relative term in this case).

If they put a lot of effort into making it work right, it could be quite enjoyable. Since I'm a huge fan of the manga I'll at least keep my eye out for this film, but at the same time I won't have any high expectations for it, but I do at least think it should turn out decent if its anything like the Battle Royale live-action film. Let's just hope that it doesn't turn into an absolute joke in translation much like the Death Note films.

Well, I found this movie review for the live-action Rurouni Kenshin movie. I wasn't sure whether to post this on some movie thread or just post it here, but I decided on posting it here since I didn't see the sense in creating a separate thread just for this movie.

Anyways, the review paints it out to be a much better than expected adaptation, and from reading it the review seems like its coming from a mostly sensible and reasonable writer, as opposed to some blind fan of the series, so that may be enough to get me more interested in seeing this flick. That said, I highly doubt that it'll ever get licensed and distributed over here, which kind of sucks.

It's produced by Warner Bros and set for an international release. Unless the producers hold an aggressive hatred towards America, we'll probably get it in a year or so.

Wasn't there also supposed to be a new animated series?

Rynnec

Yeah, but it's just an OVA retelling of the Kyoto arc. Both parts of the OVA have been released, and opinions seem to be mixed.

It really needs a new anime. Get Noriyuki Abe and put a good animation studio on it.

Not him. His skills have atrophied since Bleach. We need someone like the guy who directed Baccano or whatever.

He was on Bleach? Aw man. He's done such great work in the genre, too...

Watanabe? (Yes I'm aware of SC, but this would actually have substance)

Yeah, I also find it hard to believe that the head director of Yu Yu Hakusho also happened to be the head director of Bleach. BUT, but to fair, Abe clearly had shit material to work with from the get-go in Bleach, and while he managed to turn good material into gold with YYH, turning shit material into something decent is just asking too much, of any director, really.

Actually, Abe in some ways made Bleach even worse if the filler arcs are any indication. Hard to believe I know, but surely it can't be that hard to turn out something decent out of meiocre source material, can it?

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Maybe he just stopped caring at that point in time. Or its possible that he was credited only as the head director for YYH but it was really handled by multiple directors for each episode or some other position or positions that had the equivalent power of a director for various episodes in the series.

All I know is that YYH is a good anime and Bleach isn't. So....IDK who I should really be giving credit to.
