Yesterday I watched the Shadow Of The Wolf DVD which is the beginning of the Kyoto arc. I haven't seen those episodes in years and I got to really appreciate them this time. Of course what made it so great is my other favorite character, Saito, was introduced. Sano is the other one.

Then today I watched the next DVD, Ice Blue Eyes. Loved how it started off with a Sano vs Saito fight like the other DVD did. That part showed how good of a character Saito. At first he seemed like a completely evil character but that was shown to not be the case at all. Anyway, the DVD ended with Saito and Kenshin teaming up andd I think they are about to meet Shisio for the first time in the village he took over.

I'm completely caught up on Rurouni Kenshin now. I'm not sure if years ago I got back into the Kyoto arc on the first or second episode of the Sano vs Anji fight but I do remember Anji towering over Sano. I think it was the end of the first episode of their fight. Anyway, I missed episodes sometime after Aoshi beat the old leader of the Oniwabon (sp?). Now I can appreciate the episodes from here on now.

I got 3 more Volumes of Rurouni Kenshin. I believe that covers all of the Kyoto arc i.e. all I'm going to watch. I can't wait.

Awesome. The manga could really use a new adaptation. I'm hoping this one will turn out to be more faithful than the original.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Now if Furahara were to be directing this, I think my life would be complete. Say what you will about the RK anime, but if you ask most people the majority will tell you that the guy did a brilliant job with the Kyoto arc, and to me its great as an adaptation as the few significant changes that it does make actually makes it interesting to watch for those like me who had already read the manga, even if it will always be superior to the anime. I much prefer it to lazy adaptations like Bakuman and such which do nothing more than rip the exact scenes and dialogue from the manga without adding any substance to it or at least trying to do so that can only be done in animated form.

I want to see the Jinchuu arc animated but I don't just want to see a carbon copy of it. Some added substance akin to what Furahara did with Hunter X Hunter, or how YYH was full of that kind of stuff, would be very welcome.

At any rate I'm pretty excited about this news, but I really hope that it includes the Revenge arc. I don't mind if the first arc which was admittedly far inferior to the manga in the 90's anime doesn't get redone properly this time, just as long as we finally get to see a really good adaptation of the final arc, as Rurouni Kenshin really deserves it.

This is easily my most anticipated anime (and actually ONLY anticipated anime period), and I hope it turns out to be of the level of quality that this series was known for, and really deserves.

gunswordfist

This is also my only anticipated anime. lol

Anyway, I hope it's exactly what I have wanted for awhile, RK based more on the manga I've never read. Hopefully this means less lazy fight scenes (you know, the one slash lights up a black screen and then everyone falls, type of stuff.) and of course the final arc.

I don't care if they did a perfect adaptation or if they change all the voice actors for the English dub (well, maybe save Saito but I won't mind everyone else being ditched) Not that I don't like the voice actors but it was nothing that made go I can't live without these guys coming back.

Eh, I disagree. I really can't imagine a better voice for Kenshin than Richard Hayworth's. I'm also quite partial Saito and Sanosuke's English voices (and I'm not just talking out of nostalgia, as I think their voice acting for their respective characters have aged pretty well, to be honest). Other than that, though, you could replace the rest of the English cast and I wouldn't mind that much (I do like Aoshi's voice in some instances in the dub, but he can honestly be pretty flat a lot of times, and most people don't even cares about Kaoru or Yahiko, so they can be replaced with anyone off the street and I doubt anyone would really complain).

I finally got another RK DVD yesterday and watched it last night. It was all 4 episodes of the Soujiro and the first episode of the Shishio fight. I thought the Soujiro fight was way too drawn out and not that good. I thought the fight Kenshin's master had with that giant did what they wanted to do with that fight better - have a character who's a seems like they are just a killing machine but in reality is much more than that.

The first part of the Makoto Shishio fight - I thought Shishio was about to do the move where he blows up Kenshin but then he instead bites his ass. :shit: That really shocked me.

I love the part where Kenshin figures out how Shishio lets his sword. I've always thought it was really cool how Kenshin says, "Human fat."

Watched Fire Requiem, the last DVD of the Kyoto arc last night. Either the end of the Shishio fight (after the 2nd time Kenshin gets up) is much crazier than I remember from Toonami or that censored the shit out of it. Anyway, kind of sad to see the end of those episodes. Guess I'll get to the manga one of these days.

I'm pretty sure Toonami had to censor quite a bit of the content from Rurouni Kenshin, back in the day. I mean, it got pretty dark and violent towards the end of the Kyoto arc, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of bloody or more mature scenes (at least deemed too mature for young children) got removed when it aired on TV.

Spark Of Spirit

It's pretty gruesome in the manga, that fight. It had to have been heavily edited for Toonami, there was simply too much they wouldn't have gotten away with.

gunswordfist

Well, obviously the pool of blood had to be edited out but that's not what I was talking about. Basically, just how crazy Shishio acts at the end.
