Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Here's the first match with accompanying songs.

Match 1:
R.E.M. - It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
The Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
The English Beat - Mirror In The Bathroom
Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall

1- "Disarm"- Really good song. Very dark, but that's the Pumpkins for you.
2- "Mirror in the Bathroom"- Classic 80's. Great beat.
3- "Another Brick in the Wall"- Love Pink Floyd, but never really liked this song all that much.
4- "It's the End of the World as We Know It"- Same as above. Big R.E.M. fan, but I don't care for this song much.

1- Mirror in the Bathroom - I always thought this one song was such an interesting choice for an album opener. It's a song about looking into yourself and finding what's important, but it manages to sound so dark and seedy. The rest of the album sounds BRIGHT compared to this.
2- It's the End of the World as We Know It- I always enjoyed this as a pop song. Well written and simple.
3- Another Brick in the Wall- For Floyd, this is boring.
4- Disarm- I only like a handful of Pumpkin songs, but this isn't one of them.

Commode

I guess I could participate, although it will be sparingly for another couple of weeks until I get back.

1. It's the End of the World as We Know It
2. Disarm
3. Mirror in the Bathroom
4. Another Brick in the Wall

Don't really feel like giving explanations, sorry.  Maybe on future rounds.
It doesn't matter what you say, soon you'll be dead anyway.

Avaitor

It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)- 11
Disarm- 8
Mirror in the Bathroom- 13
Another Brick in the Wall- 7

R.E.M. and English Beat make it to the next round.

Match 2:
Judas Priest - Electric Eye
The Tigerlilies - A Thousand Violins
Alaskan Fishermen - It's So Good
Dirty Looks - They Got Me Covered

"They Got Me Covered"- Sick stuff.
"The Hellion/Electric Eye"- AKA the test music for Toy Story 3. Good opener for the album.
"Thousand Violins"- Not my typical type of music, but really interesting. I like it.
"It's So Good"- Can't find it, so I can't rank it. :(

Same as Avaitor.

Man, such a shame that the bass player for Dirty Looks is no longer with us. Love the bass line on that song.

Never shoulda' even nominated songs that aren't popular enough to be on YouTube, last.fm, we7, or file sharing networks. I hope the others I nominated are less elusive...

While I would rank it at or near the top, there's no way It's So Good can win here, so I'll just say same as Avaitor and Desen.

Avaitor

Oh come on man, don't be like that. It might still stand a chance. ;)

I posted it on zshare, in case anyone wants to redo their vote. It might not change for you, if you don't like hip-hop, though.

Mine is now
Alaskan Fishermen - It's So Good
Dirty Looks - They Got Me Covered
Judas Priest - Electric Eye
The Tigerlilies - A Thousand Violins

Avaitor

Sorry man, but it wouldn't DL for me.

The results:

Electric Eye- 8
A Thousand Violins- 5
It's So Good- 6
They Got Me Covered- 11

Priest and Dirty Looks make it to the next round.

Match 3:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - On Mercury
MDC- S.K.I.N.H.E.A.D.
Sonic Youth- 'Cross the Breeze
Blondie - One Way or Another

"S.K.I.N.H.E.A.D."- This is a very inspirational song. Especially if you know a couple of moronic skinheads like I do.
"'Cross the Breeze"- Classic Youth, and one of my favorite Kim performances. Once the riff kicks in, it's pure chaos.
"One Way or Another"- Also great, but never been one of my top Blondie songs. And yes, I linked to the Rugrats Movie version on purpose. :P Here's the real version.
"On Mercury"- Easily one of the best post-BSSM Chili Peppers songs, but something's got to give.

S.K.I.N.H.E.A.D. - Fuck yeah
On Mercury - Also fuck yeah, but to a slightly lesser extent
'Cross The Breeze - Not really a Sonic Youth fan.
One Way Or Another - Um...

Spark Of Spirit

I'll pass. Not sure why that Blondie song was picked.

I would have picked something like this instead.
