Probably Super Mario World.

Anyway, I beat Paper Mario. The Winter chapter was good, but REALLY short. And the final chapter was really long and had some good moments along the way. All told, it's a really good game but I still stand by my opinion that it doesn't quite surpass it's spiritual prequel Super Mario RPG. For one the characters aren't as strong, some chapters are just not all that fun, and the game is really ridiculously easy (I mean, I think I bought maybe two items in the whole game)- all in all it's a great game, but it's not a classic to me.

I started on the prologue of TTYD right away so the transition was fresh, and it was great. The battle system is way better, supercounters are great, the characters are stronger and the dialogue is a lot funnier. So far this still seems like the better game of the two.

Not there yet, guys. But it's indeed one of the older Mario games.

As for Super Mario RPG... meh, I think it was okay. I really enjoyed it as a kid, but I personally don't think it has held up so well.

Yoshi's Island?

In your own ways, you're both close. :P

Super Mario Bros. 2 (US)?

Correct. SMB2 is Miyamoto's favorite Mario game! :P

You'd be surprised at how many people agree with him, too.

It's the hipster's favorite Mario game.

SMB2 is better than Doki Doki Panic. There's an actual run button, for one.

I would really like a sequel to it.

I actually love SMB2 (US) myself; I just can't believe that's actually his favorite.

It's a great game IMO, and really unique for the series, but there are better Mario games when it comes right down to it. But hey, to each his own I suppose.

I do think SMB2 is a good game, though. It's just the worst of the original three.

Also, I'd like to note that Miyamoto considers SMB2 his favorite "as a player". As a developer, he admits to having the most memories of SMB1. Here's the direct quote for ya'll, when asked what his favorite is.

"I guess as a developer that might have to be the very first Super Mario game, for me, because I have so many memories tied up in it. Perhaps as a player, I might go for what was, at least in Japan, we referred to it as Super Mario USA, which was a game that just had a very different sort of feel. I think we had such a loose approach to it, we really came up with something interesting."

Spark Of Spirit

Well, I like it more than 1 and WAY more than Lost Levels, but I know it's a controversial entry.

Miyamoto had a lot of good ideas when making it, and I wish some of that stuff would return to the series beyond just Shy Guys and Bob-Ombs.

While I like SMB1 a little more, I agree that SMB2 is much better than The Lost Fanhack Levels.
