It's even sillier because of how big 2D platformers have been since NSMB came out and wrecked the sales charts. A 2D Sonic game with as much care and content as Sonic 3 & Knuckles (which we all know they're capable of now) would have been a true boon for them and for the fans.

Also, Nintendo isn't convincing those people that the new NSMB game is worth upgrading to from the last one. :P
Perhaps, but that rhetoric I posted was taken directly from actual editorials and comments sections.

In that case, we shouldn't speak of those people. :happytime:

I must think more of the 2D Mario games than you, Talon. The only ones I actively dislike are Lost Levels and SML2. I like every other game a great deal.

So, you actively dislike two 2D Mario games. I'm indifferent toward three. I'd say we're pretty even. :P

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a full on Super Mario Bros. 4/World 2 (since there's no SMB4 here or SMW2 in Japan) with graphics as impressive as Mario Kart 8 or stylized as good as Good Feel's games, but I'm not going to rag on a game if they don't. I'm just not that picky about these things.

It's not just about graphics, though (I don't know why they are holding back in that department, though). The game's just seem too conservative in every way. Like, there is no limit to the variety of "worlds" you could have in a 2D Mario game. But they seem to just be sticking to the grass-desert-ice progression time after time.

Spark Of Spirit

Well, if Super Mario 3D World shows, it's that Nintendo is branching out of tropes like that for world settings. I wouldn't worry about that for a future Mario game.

That's a 3D game though, which pretty much lines up with what I was saying. But we'll see. I feel like they should go all out on a 2D Mario. Give it not only true Wii U graphics and music that can match Galaxy, but introduce some truly unique gameplay with creative worlds. Do something that 2D platformers haven't done before, and try to dethrone SMB3 and SMW. Also, it'd be nice to bring in more playable characters, each with different abilities. The SMB2 crew is a good example, maybe also throw in characters such as Wario and Waluigi as well.

Spark Of Spirit

Please no Waluigi, and Wario has his own series I'd rather he stick to. There's nothing wrong with the way SM3DW did it with Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach (and unlockable Rosalina), I'd rather they just keep it to them.

Otherwise, after the next big 3D Mario game (which is obviously coming) I wouldn't mind the team tackling a full on 2D Mario.

Fair enough. Though why don't you like Waluigi? :P

Wario would be fine... hell, even Daisy or something, but not Waluigi. Never Waluigi. :whuh:

Because he adds nothing to the series except to be a tennis partner to Wario (whose partner should have been Captain Syrup, at that) who isn't even a proper member of the Mario series.

Why don't we make DK & Diddy unlockable team characters instead? At least they would be worth having.

I'm not sure why you'd criticize him because he hasn't added anything to the series and also criticize my idea for him to be in a platormer, since that would alleviate the problem and give him something useful to do.

I don't mind Wario being in a 2D game either as he started off in a 2D Mario game, and I believe he was a playable character in the DS port of SM64.

I wouldn't mind that at all.

Spark Of Spirit

And he's not very good in it.

Because I don't want him to be given a role. He was a terrible idea for a character in the first place. Daisy would make more sense since she actually came from a Mario game and is not such a lazy, pointless character in the first place. Not to mention her party game appearances have given her more personality alone than anything Waluigi has gotten despite receiving the exact same amount of attention. I don't think he's worth the effort.

I like him because his voice is funny, and I like the idea of having two alternate bad brothers, one to rival Mario and the other to rival Luigi. I also think he deserves a chance to do something beyond play sports and race, like be Wario's Luigi.

Spark Of Spirit

Wario doesn't need a sidekick. He's awesome enough without one.

Looks like he could use one.
