Well, the roster now has Link, Villager, and Isabelle, so that's a definite plus. If they announce a new DLC pack at E3 (PLEASE be Battle mode DLC!) they'll certainly have a few characters in there. I'm guessing Birdo and Bowser Jr. will be a part of it.

The question is, where did Diddy go?

Yeah, with the DLC included, it's my favorite Mario Kart game. But having several previous characters back like Diddy, Funky and Birdo would make it all the sweeter. Otherwise, I think my only complaints are the excess of baby characters (and Pink Gold Peach) and the crap battle mode. We need arenas, not regular race tracks.

(I know a lot of people find the Koopalings unnecessary and a waste of seven character slots, but I actually quite like having all of them around.)

I wonder what this mean for Mario Maker?

So as of last year, this is the ranking popularity of every Nintendo franchise by sales:

QuoteMario: 498.30
Pokémon: 235.00
Wii Sports/Fit/Play/Party/Music: 201.60
Zelda: 78.26
Donkey Kong: 56.49
Brain Training: 43.38
Kirby: 30.89
Nintendogs: 27.46
Animal Crossing: 25.94
Smash Bros: 25.10
Wario: 18.05
Yoshi: 17.85
Metroid: 13.84
Star Fox: 8.81
Luigi's Mansion: 7.30
Tomodachi: 5.61
F-Zero: 5.00
Punch-Out!!: 4.16
Style Boutique: 4.01
Game & Watch Gallery: 3.44
Kid Icarus: 2.99
Golden Sun: 2.77
Pikmin: 2.71
Pilotwings: 2.26
Mario is unquestionably #1 by a large amount. It's really no wonder why Nintendo focuses so heavily on the series.

Meanwhile, Wario sits neglected. We should be getting a new Wario Land before a new F-Zero, Star Fox, or Metroid. Either way, now we have an idea of why they push certain series more than others.

Nintendo seems to give franchises time to cool off when a game is badly received, which is probably why we haven't seen a Wario platformer since Wario World, Star Fox since Command, or Metroid since Other M. Hopefully we'll get a new Wario Land after Star Fox U, and then a new Metroid soon after that.

Also, is it true that Miyamoto hates F-Zero?

EDIT: I'd like to see one of these for Sony as well. Would be interesting to know how their older mascot franchises compare to stuff like Uncharted.

Wario Land Shake It for Wii apparently got a big boost in sales after NSMBWii came out, but Game & Wario was a disappointment. What that says to me is that WarioWare needs a break and Wario Land deserves focus.

No, he said that if they were to do a new F-Zero it would have to do something new. It also doesn't help that GX bombed. But I don't think he hates any franchise. He just has clear favorites.

That would be weird since you would have to include stuff like Crash and Spyro that Sony kind of owned once and now don't.

I would put a wager that their highest selling series is Gran Turismo, and R&C is in the top ten.

Oh no, how did I forget about Shake It!? That needs to be on the top of my "games to buy" list...

That's good! I keep seeing people say he hated it, which I thought was weird. A shame about GX; I know some people who swear by that game.

Yeah, I'd consider the Insomniac Spyro and Naughty Dog Crash games to be Sony stuff.

You're definitely right about GT. I figure R&C would be #5 or so.

Shake It is fairly underrated being Good Feel's first game, but it did decently in sales. I've been hoping for a new Wario Land since this gen started.

Still hoping.

Even still, they seemed to feel bad that it took this long to make a Star Fox game. Even though they push some franchises more than others, they seem to care about almost all of them.

Spark Of Spirit

Star Fox's problem was that they couldn't think of where to go with it and the games were selling less and less. But they must have thought of something good because this is the first EAD Star Fox game since 64.

Compared to Sony and Microsoft, I think Nintendo does pretty good by all their franchises even the ones that don't get as much attention as others.

Even when Nintendo neglects a franchise, they usually end up bringing it back eventually, which is more than can be said for MS and Sony. I doubt we'll ever get another Siren or Arc the Lad game. :'(

Don't remind me. Ape Escape 4 (or even a PSN release of the first three), a new Jumping Flash, Jet Moto, Parappa, or Tomba, would instantly endear me to them more. I don't like how they ditch good ideas so fast.

I can't even think of all the franchises MS has stepped on the neck of, but it's a lot.

I actually rented that when it first came out. It might have been the most boring game that ever boringed my time.

It's mostly the companies they bought and gutted I'm talking about. Though they're still no EA in that regard.

I only brought that game up since he was the Xbox mascot until they decided to just go with Master Chief. I never played it, myself; sucks to hear it was boring.

Yeah, EA and Activision are still the kings of destroying quality development houses. Though I honestly can't think of too many examples where MS did that aside from Rare.
