Galaxy 2 is the only one on the Wii U right now. It's exactly the same as the Wii version.

The original Galaxy is on Wii U in Japan, probably on its way to America before long.

I was mistaken about controls. It's Metroid Prime Trilogy that apparently has new controls. Do you know anything about how that is?

I only know that the Wii VC games are exactly the same as the original Wii retail releases except with better visual output.

I really hope that, from this point on, all digital Nintendo games, be it NES or Wii U, will be transferable to next consoles.

From what I understand, you can use the Wii U gamepad and Pro Controller for Wii games that are compatible with the classic controller.  Metroid Prime Trilogy is only playable with the wii remote and nunchuk, so I don't think it has a new control option.

I was looking at Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wikipedia, and it says the eShop version was praised for its "new controls".

Unless those new controls were just the Wii controls...

Spark Of Spirit

It's just the Wii controls.

So there have been a few recent hints as to what Nintendo is planning with Mario. I would post links but I forgot to save them, but you can easily find this out for yourself if you do a google search.

They've hinted that they want to do another Galaxy game, but are waiting for the next system so they can really go all out. This probably means the next 3D Mario for the Wii U will not be in a Galaxy style but either in the SM64 or SM3DW vein. Personally, I want to see a SMB2-influenced 3D game. SM3DW had a lot of influence from the game, but I could do with more.

On the other hand, they've said the next 2D Mario is going to be far out ahead of the NSMB games. They hope to outdo them. This implies that the NSMB series is done. So hopefully people will start giving those games a chance again and realize that Wii and U are classics. What they mean to do next I have no idea and Super Mario Maker shows that they could be going anywhere at all. My bets are on a Super Mario Bros. 4 (call it Super Mario World 2 for Japan) that really goes all out.

Whatever they do next, I'm excited.

Sorry, but I can't ever call the Wii game a classic. Good game, it is. Classic, it is not.

But that is fantastic news.

Instant classics, man. Sure, it's only been half a decade since NSMBWii's release, but the best games will be remembered forever. I don't think a quality Mario title is in any sort of danger of being forgotten.

Does anyone talk about Super Mario Land? It's a quality title, but it's been pretty much forgotten.

Every franchise has games that just fall through the cracks. Once one runs for a long period of time and accumulates a large number of games, it's just inevitable. And I honestly think the New Super Mario Bros. series will quickly fall into that category. They just won't ever be placed alongside games like 3 and World, which were true classics. In fact, many people already seem to be forgetting them.

Yes. I see people talk about Super Mario Land 1 & 2 more often than 3D Land, in fact.

It's not really fair to compare the premiere NES and SNES platformers with anything, to be honest. Even Galaxy doesn't get that kind of recognition from the public at large.

The NSMB games have sold over 50 million. I don't see how they'll be forgotten that fast.

In my opinion, Wii and U are easily as good as the best platformers in the series. Anyone playing them divorced from their release dates will probably like them just as much as SMB3 and World.

:) This is true. I think Wii especially stacks up to 3 and World gloriously.

Well, to be honest, I always forget 3D Land even exists, so... :P

I don't know, I see a lot of adoration for Galaxy. Upon its release, people were quickly calling it the Super Mario Bros. 3 of the 3D games, and if you find a "best of all time" list, I very often see at least one of them.

Since when have sales been an indication of quality and stance as a classic? :P

I really don't agree. I honestly think the New games I played felt watered down and too conservative for their own good.

And I do want to say again, I consider these to be good games for sure. I just don't think they come close to being among the best.
