Other than music and graphical style (I actually think U looks great, though), I'm not seeing watered down. U has the best ghost houses ever in a Mario game and Wii used the switch palace idea better than SMW did by centering it on one world. The level design is rock solid as well and only gets better as the games go on. I'm not going to defend 1 or 2, because those were paint by numbers Mario through and through-- nowhere near as good as the console games.

They're also the games that brought co-op platforming to the same screen and made it a thing. There's a reason the sub-series outsold COD last gen.

Sorry, these games get crapped on way too much while 64 and Sunshine get away with far worse problems and are never called on them. In a couple of years I guarantee there will be people coming out in support of them by the droves.

Like I said earlier, I can only talk for the ones I played. I still haven't gotten to.  I don't doubt that it's better than the precious games. But, in my opinion, Wii was eclipsed by DKCR. I actually give the original NSMB game the biggest free pass since it rejuvinated 2D Mario, and the "New " actually felt like a novelty instead of a parody.

I really can't wait for Nintendo to do tier big thing with 2D Mario because I genuinely think they could far surpass the NSMB games. If that happens, I can easily imagine the fan opinion of those games just shrinking even more.

And you can't be serious with that point about Sunshine. Almost no one likes that game period. :P

It's sad that he compared it to 64

Yeah, not too many people love Sunshine, though I am one of them. But my taste in GameCube games may be somewhat questionable, as I also love Star Fox Adventures...

As long as you consider Animal Crossing the best Gamecube game.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

I can't do that when Double Dash!! exists.

Koji Igarashi, like Michel Ancel, will be having a level in the game. I do wonder how many people they approached for Super Mario Maker. I seriously can't wait for Friday to play it.

Gamestop has the Yoshi's Wooly World and Chibi-Robo amiibo bundles up for preorder right now if you want to hop on that! The golden Zelda New 3DS is up for preorder agin too!

Foggle

Wind Waker's gotta' be my GC pick. Few games speak to me like that one does.

YES THANK YOU

Galaxy 2 > Galaxy >>>>>>>>>> 64 >>>>>>>>>> Sunshine

But I'm so excited for what Nintendo does next. From the looks of things, they are doing literally everything I hoped they would do with Mario, both in 2D and 3D.

That's definitely way up there. Zelda was at the top of its game on the GameCube.

Then again, so was Resident Evil. REmake and RE4? Arguably the two best games in not just the series, but the entire genre.

Go, Foggle, go! I remembered you were waiting for it too, so I raced over here as soon as I preordered mine.

The Amiibo coming out on Friday were not up for preorder, but I did get this depressing email from Amazon. I'll be at work during this, and because the preorders are an hour apart and people will pretty much be racing to get these, getting the free shipping might be a hassle.

Galaxy 2 >> 3D World >> Galaxy >>>>>> 3D Land >>>> 64 >>>>>>>>>> Sunshine

I'm definitely excited for the next 3D Mario.

Barring 3D Land, I think 3D Mario has improved a lot with each subsequent release. I tried playing SM64 again recently, and I honestly couldn't get into it, though I can certainly see why I loved it back in the day. Sunshine has a lot of problems, but it's also a very unique title with charming tropical atmosphere provided by its beautiful graphics and music. Sadly, I still have yet to pick up 3D World. :(

While I do slightly prefer RE4 to WW, I don't really count that game since it wasn't exclusive for very long.

:joy:

This is the only amiibo I've ever wanted... so happy I can get it!

Once you play Galaxy, there's almost no going back to 64. But I do think 64 remains a great game.
