Before we fling the autism card again (not due to offense, but because it's become a boring stock phrase in these lovely websites), I agree that Toonzone is a dump run by tightassed pedagogues. Though really, there's more to be gained in trying to start something better than remain in those ashes. In continuing to complain about Toonzone, we're basically criticizing an invalid with severe MS for not being able to hold his bowels in. Hell, I recently went to the boards and saw moderators talking about how being gay was a choice. Now how's that for being socially backwards? But even though that place has become vile, it's better to look for new territory than watering barren grounds. Hell, weaboos, bronies, furries, those are the easy targets that everyone has struck at least once. The real fun comes in mocking the forbidden, like Martin Luther King or WWII massacres. Anyone can make a joke about how fanboys are neckbeards, but very few know how to mock Vietnamese war crimes.

The mods are humorless and unlikeable, most of the regular members are dumb as bricks... and as an aside to the dullness, lest we not forget the terrible layout, constant ads, and complete utter lack of user-friendly capabilities.

I'll give it another 2-3 years before it's dead completely.

TV.com is far worse. Shame too, since TV.com's Animation Forum used to be pretty fun, before all of the smart people got fed up and left.

And TV Rage? That place has been half dead since 2007. How TV Rage lasted as long as it has is completely beyond my comprehension.

I remember when the tv.com staff went hard on anyone who dared to go off-topic, and went fast. I got banned for posts I made nearly a year prior, and I believe that I wasn't the only one who now posts here that got the hammer from there.

It was fun when we were able to do stuff, but that was so long ago.

Even then, I hardly ever get nostalgic for that place, or tz when I had my most fun there. Quite frankly, I like it here. Sometimes I get annoyed with some of the members, but we're still able to have countless intelligent or just plain fun conversations on a daily basis, without fear of any bullshit coming in the way. I think the fact that our staff is so lax since we're able to respect our community is a big factor towards that. I wouldn't change that for the world.

I remember when the tv.com staff went hard on anyone who dared to go off-topic, and went fast. I got banned for posts I made nearly a year prior, and I believe that I wasn't the only one who now posts here that got the hammer from there.

Definitely not just you. I was banned from TV.com back in '06 or '07. I don't even remember why now, but I was already starting to get sick of that place. When they axed my account, I was thinking about spending less time there anyway.

The Big Cartoon Database is another board on the down slope. Sadly, it's been going downhill for a while now. BCDB was fun back when I joined in 2002; we had good lively discussions then, but now a lot of the smart and fun people have long since abandoned it. The only people on BCDB now are curmudgeons (many of whom are from the now defunct GAC Forums) who only want to discuss old cartoons and think everything made after 2004 is shit, spammers and nitwits. One of the biggest contributors to the site tragically passed away in February, and without him the board has royally suffered. Plus, they haven't updated the look of that site since I joined 11 years ago; it already looks like a dead board from 1999 that no one goes to anymore. I honestly think BCDB is on its' last legs.

Even then, I hardly ever get nostalgic for that place, or tz when I had my most fun there. Quite frankly, I like it here. I don't miss TV.com at all, and I hated TV Rage. Most of the people at Rage were dicks and fights broke out there all the time, plus their information was way below par. My TZ account is still active, and I still post there from time, though I'm not going to lie, without Goldstar there it's not nearly as much fun for me. I like it here; we get some disagreements and harsh words sometimes get exchanged between posters, but overall it's pretty chill here. The moderation here isn't wound as tight as TZ. One of the things I like about AR (and smaller forums in general) is that everybody knows each other and we all respect each other for the most part.

Oh yeah, they started getting really strict after you and your bro got banned, and I don't think they've lightened down ever since. It's hard to believe that it's been nearly half a decade since I got banned from tv.com, which means that it'll soon be the 5th anniversary of AR's existence.

I used to lurk BCDB for the longest time, but it seems like every time I go back to there, it looks like less and less fun. It's a shame, really.

As for GAC, I was also more of a lurker myself. I did like to read some of the conversations about these classics that some members would have, but certain biases made it difficult for me to have the desire to fit in.

You know after looking at these posts and seeing people complain about forum happenings from long ago, I'm wondering how far one can go until a minor grievance at a forum turns into a years-long grudge that the opposing side can't even remember. It just seems like the stuff that fuels places like TZW and how hundreds of posts were spent talking about some guy when very few could bother saying even one of those sentences to his face. When do the complaints lose their validity?

TZW died precisely because everybody stopped caring. It's been five years since Tony Morello got banned from TZ and his forum started getting used as a place to bitch. That's a long time. You're right that the complaints no longer matter. We might reference them every once in a while, but we don't consider them big deals anymore.

Yeah, that's it. The Internet Animation Database. I lurked there after I was banned from TZ,  but the joint wasn't exactly boiling over with activity, so I never joined. Plus, like BCDB, the site is mostly for fans of older cartoons who think that toons were so much better 20-30 years ago and all of the current stuff sucks.

I get nostalgic for Toonzone every once in a while. Especially when I see threads talking about the That Guy's of the internet and I recall nearly every single stereotype fit at least one member.

I don't really regret spending my time there since I met a whole bunch of people and picked up shows I would have never watched otherwise. It's just a shame Eileen was so determined to turn a profit on the site that she fucked over her own userbase just to keep a steady flow of traffic, and now its as user unfriendly as say, the IGN boards.
