Such an underappreciated genre. It's one of the most immersive genres and of course it makes you use your head more than a lot of types of games.

My favorite stealth gameplay is from Splinter Cell Pandora and MGS4. Specifically, systemically taking out guards by shooting out lights and either luring them to me with whistling or throwing objects at them or just stealth killing them from behind. Then there's all the freedom that MGS4 gives you in the first 2 thirds of the game which makes it my favorite game of all time. If either MGSV has more of this kind of stealth freedom then they'll easily surpass MGS4 for me.

I also have a soft spot for MGS2. Clearing sequences are the funniest time I've ever had playing a game because guards would come in all extra serious and then they'd run into Claymores on the ground or C4 hidden in lockers that me or my oldest brother placed and start freaking out when the explosions start.  :D That never got old. Also, finding out that we could sneak up on guards and plant C4 on their backs was interesting. We had one guard at around the start of Raiden's campaign walk up to other guard and then blow them up during their conversation. hehe Unlocking the camo suit and messing with the guards was also a lot of fun.

You mean that shitty movie with the sentient aircraft? :sly:

Okay, seriously, I find stealth to be a lot more interesting than the standard shooter. They're less run-and-gun and more strategic in nature.

I'm also a big fan of the MGS games even though I still need to play MGS4 (I've had it for about 2 years now). My gaming times been spent on Street Fighter 4, and even though I need a break from the fighting games I just can't pull myself away from them.

Anyway, I do agree that MGS3 is the best at the moment (I did play enough of MGS4 to know that the gameplay is better than MGS3 though. Can't ask for a better control scheme). I'm looking forward to MGS5 though. I like the idea of making it open world. I kind of wonder if it's going to be like Assassin's Creed, which is another series I like, although they need to go back to their roots and let you play the game the way you want (I hear they are doing that with AC4).

I disagree there. MGS4's gameplay is very stripped down compared to 3's.

You gotta' play the Thief trilogy and Hitman: Blood Money! Those are the most interesting and exciting stealth games around IMO.

I dunno, I love run 'n gun shooters. I dislike the ones where you're forced to park your ass behind cover for 90% of the game.

MGS 3 is more complicated, but I think MGS 4 probably has better core stealth. 3's an awesome wilderness survival game, though (and my preference of the two).

talonmalon333

MGS3 is my preference of everything ever.

Foggle

Yeah, 3 is probably my favorite Metal Gear, and one of the best games ever made.

gunswordfist

I'll give those games a try, Foggle.

I think Blood Dragon has the best stealth out of any FPS. I need to replay (and actually beat) Chronicles Of Riddick though. I've only played the demo for its sequel.

Yeah, Blood Dragon's stealth is pretty great. As long as you don't consider Thief to be an FPS, I think I agree with you there.

gunswordfist

I still haven't played Thief. :D

If you have Xbox Live, you can download Hitman Absolution for free!

Gold only? I have it for PC but I can't play it because it overheats my graphics card, so I'd love to be able to play the console version. Not buying Gold, though.

How many GB is it? My HDD is an old one and only stores 12 GB of data, at least half of which is taken up by other games.
