Everybody who reads this blog should love Disney. Can you blame us? Arguably no one has done more for the animation industry than Walt, and just about everyone should have at least one project from the Mouse House that they enjoy, be it a particular movie, a Winnie the Pooh character, or if you just. really like Phineas & Ferb. As you guys might know, I personally enjoy Disney quite a lot. The studio has left an undeniable impression on…
Introduction Ren & Stimpy and I have a complicated history. As a kid, I never really liked it. It’s hard to remember why exactly, but back in the day I would much rather watch Nicktoons like Rocko’s Modern Life or Doug than Ren & Stimpy. The show never really got along with my tastes as I much preferred a well timed joke or visual gag over toilet humor, no matter how well done it was. Well, my cohorts over at…
Evening, all! Now we at AR realize that some of you don’t know what exactly the Ludovico Trials are and what led to its creation. And because of these issues, here are some basic answers for those wondering what the hell is going on. What does “Ludovico” mean? It comes from the Ludivico Technique, a fictional drug-assisted therapy featured in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, in which the main character Alex DeLarge was subjected to utterly horrific footage of rape…
This is a new series of articles that I and the rest of the crew are doing. It’s about reviewing the worst of the worst; stuff that’s already fairly terrible but that the person writing the review will hate more than the average person. So, let’s begin, shall we? ———- Ah, yes, Kiba, a generic shounen so insufferable that even fans of generic shounen consider it boring at best and unwatchable at worst. I really don’t want to watch this….
It’s no secret that Nickelodeon isn’t exactly the most consistent when it comes to their shows’ releases. And with there being more options than ever for just exactly how one procures such series, it’s about time someone actually took the time to keep track of just exactly what series are available and how. This entry will be focusing primarily on the first 24 Nicktoons and their availability in America through 3 sources: DVDs, amazon.com / iTunes downloads (the two essentially…
Hey hey! Tonight I’m going to suck!(reads next card) Your blood! I’ve been a big fan of The Simpsons pretty much my whole life, and I’d be lying if I said that the annual Treehouse of Horror episodes weren’t a big part of that. I see that Desen has already done a list, and a really good one at that, so I decided to highlight a few that he didn’t mention, even though many of his choices are among my…
This year, in the theme of the great tradition of this eerie day, we figured it would be fun to give a list of what we consider to be some of the best parts of the season. That being, The Simpsons’ great specials based on this unique day. I decided to limit my list to one segment per special, and decided to spread it out over the many years of this tradition. Take a look at my list, then go…
And no, I don’t mean this: Goddamn I love Excel Saga. I mean this: Goddamn I hate Soulja Boy. That’s right, Soulja Boy is back up in it (OH!), and this time he’s released not one, but two singles that rival his collaboration with Justin Bieber as worst song of the 21st century. And they’ve got to be pretty fucking bad to do that. Both of these songs just happen to be about anime. Now, before I begin my tirade,…
So what have we learned, kids? Disney is awesome and have made some great stuff in the 80 + years of the studio’s existence, and their old syndication block is up there with some of their best moments. I can watch a show like DuckTales again and still catch bits to laugh at, as well as subtlety’s I haven’t even considered. I can put on Darkwing Duck and think that there aren’t that many cartoons with jokes as varied as…
Ho boy. As great as the Disney Afternoon was when the block was started, things went south in the span of a few years for Disney‘s television animation department. Gone were the days of Gummi Bears, and on went mediocre shows like the Mighty Ducks, a tude-filled action show featuring a team full of hockey-playing ducks who fight crime, that aired on ABC’s One Saturday Morning block as well on the block(which I personally won’t be going through), and Quack…
