Spark Of Spirit

Personally I'd rather just pretend the series only has three entries.

But New Nightmare is the best one! :(

I never said the second movie was one of the three.  ;)

Many fans consider the first and third film, as well as New Nightmare, to be the Nancy trilogy (or the Wes Craven trilogy). These films can all be related to each other in terms of plot, while ignoring the other movies in the franchise.

NIGHT 8

Written and Directed by: Alejandro AmenĂ¡bar
Starring: Nicole Kidman
Released: 2001

The Others is easily one of the best horror films of the 2000's, IMO. It's rather underrated given how little people seem to remember it aside from its famous plot twist. The movie is more than that, though. It's an incredibly well put together ghost story that also plays out like a mystery or suspense thriller. In fact, pay very careful attention to all of the clues and minor nuances in the film to appreciate just how much attention to detail went into it. The minimal cast set in a huge, old mansion also effectively adds to the foreboding atmosphere, and aside from good acting from the adults, this is one of those rare movies that nails its child actors' performances.

The film is also streaming on Netflix, so if you have that service, there's absolutely no excuse not to watch it.

I'll try to watch this when I get off of work tonight.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

The Others is the type of movie that you have to watch with all the lights in the room turned off. I'd say the same for any horror movie, and most movies in general, but this is one in particular where it just works so well that way.

I know some have problems with The Others, and I understand that. But I still think the movie works very well. And Nicole Kidman? Seriously, a job well done. I'm glad that she, as well as the movie itself, got awards despite this being a horror movie, which, as we all know, tend to get snubbed.

Also, the old lady in this movie also appears in the television show Lost, a show that involves a clan known as "The Others". When I first saw this movie, the Lost fan in me couldn't help but notice it. :P

If you like this movie, you really ought to check out The Haunting and The Innocents, if you haven't already. I wouldn't be surprised if The Others took some influence from them.

The second movie was weird, wasn't it? I remember it being one of the weaker entries, even by the standards of these sequels.

Avaitor

Alright, this is pretty good. And yeah, I see a LOT of influence from The Innocents in it.

Part of what makes The Others so great, IMO, is its slow build and lack of cheap jump scares in place of actual creepy atmosphere, enhanced by the excellent cinematography and the brilliant idea to have this whole film take place in one large area cut off from society, adding to the feeling of isolation. Like I said, it's one of the best horror films of the 2000's.

I've seen The Haunting, but I really do need to watch The Innocents, eventually.

NIGHT 9

Written and Directed by: Dario Argento
Starring: Tony Musante, Suzy Kendall
Released: 1970

I really do need to get into Dario Argento's work, sometime. His films seem to be legit scary, at least in terms of fucked up imagery, and way ahead of their time.

Unfortunately, though, I haven't seen any yet, including this one.

Foggle

Can confirm that Dario Argento is amazing, but I haven't seen this one yet, either. :(

Avaitor

This is a great mystery with touches of Hitchcock and Argento's own developing style. Totally worth checking out.

Is this movie comical, by any chance? The tagline and quote on the poster seem a bit over-the-top.

NIGHT 10

Directed by: Terence Fisher
Screenplay by: Jimmy Sangster
Starring: Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee
Released: 1959

IT'S HAMMER HORROR TIME!

In tribute to two legendary horror icons, including Christopher Lee who sadly passed away a mere few months ago, we have this great reboot of the Universal classic to watch and discuss tonight.

While it's been ages since I've seen it, I remember the design of the mummy creeping me out a lot as a kid, but looking kind of cheesy (but in a charming way) as I got older. That said, I do find that this version of the film holds up better than the original, in all honesty. It may be goofy in its own way, but it's still thoroughly entertaining for what it is, IMO.
