Is it true that the original DuckTales is better than the remake?
No, only purists say otherwise. It plays exactly the same only with longer stages.

Whether you prefer one or the other is up to you, but it does nothing worse than the NES game.

I haven't played the remake but I have seen the Happy Game Nerd's review of it. I can't judge the remake but some of the things he mentioned, such as every level being turned into a fetch quest, do sound a bit tiring. Again, though, I can't judge it.
It's purist nitpicking. If you play DuckTales without exploring the whole level, you're playing the game wrong. The things you collect is to encourage exploration for players who might not otherwise do it. If you play like I do, in other words getting 100% treasure in every level, it's a complete non-issue.

To be honest, sometimes Derek can be overly harsh about good games and has a tendency to nitpick about things that aren't even problems. If you remember the Chip n Dale review he went on about the sound effect for collecting flowers like it was ear-splittingly bad and a real problem with the game. I never had a problem with it and I've played the game quite a bit over twenty years now.

DuckTales Remastered is DuckTales NES with new graphics, remixed music, and longer levels. It just depends on what you prefer to play when choosing between the two. It doesn't do anything bad whatsoever.

While I can respect the HVGN's opinion, he isn't on-point about everything. Like, he says that Shinobi on the PS2 is garbage, which is a load of shit because it's a good game despite not being designed like the 2D classics.

Other times he can overrate some games, such as Ninja Warriors, which is certainly a good beat-em-up, but not nearly as advanced or stand-out as he made it seem. His insistence on calling the combat "deep" was also a huge stretch, IMO.

Despite being a big fan of his work, and being sad that he has slowed down so much lately, I certainly agree. In particular, I think he laid it on way too thick in the intro to his EarthBound video.

He has his biases, of course. Ninja Warriors is a good game but it's no masterpiece.

Also his ridiculous hate over StarTropics 2 is silly. Is it perfect? No. But it's not a bad game by any stretch. And it's not as horrendously unbalanced as the first game, which he had no problem glossing over in his praise.

God, No Mercy was such a good game. The only wrestling game that I've heard good things about since then is Raw vs. Smackdown 2006, but overall none of the modern ones even come close to No Mercy.

You can see AKI's progression through each game they made. From World Tour to Revenge to Wrestlemania 2000 to No Mercy (and the VPW games in Japan) they only got better. And they started great on top of it.

Then for some reason they were dropped for Yukes and we never saw another wrestling game from them outside of gimmick games like Ultimate Muscle and Def Jam Vendetta. It was such a tragedy that a quality developer making critically and financially successful games were dropped for literally no reason.

I could be wrong, but I believe it had more to do with THQ's bad decision-making rather than the WWE's. I don't remember exactly where I read about that, though.

Spark Of Spirit

The thing is, they stuck with them through two generations of declining sales until bankruptcy hit THQ and we lost any hope of getting them back.

I keep hoping that since Nintendo works with AKI (now SynSophia) I keep hoping they're going to task them with a Pro Wrestling game and use the old franchise at the same time. It would be one of the most anticipated games ever if that were the case.

Pretty cool!

Speaking of which, I'm way excited for this: http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/

I played the demo and it was almost Nintendo quality. Can't wait!

I know Nintendo wants everyone to buy the new 3DS versions, but do you guys think there's any chance of Star Fox 64 and OoT/MM being released on the Wii U VC? I'd much rather play those games on my TV.

Yes.

They already did this with Kirby Super Star last generation. The VC release came not long after the DS game.

Hooray! :joy: I was worried they were going to just push the remakes over the original.

Then again, both versions versions of Mario 2 US, Metroid 1, and Kirby's Adventure are on the eShop, so I guess there was no cause for concern.

Spark Of Spirit

Not to mention that those are 3DS games and the Wii U versions would not be playable on those systems. I assume that was why Kirby had no issue.
