It's around average from what I've heard. Which probably says more about how I feel about MK64 than anything to do with LBPK.

That franchise really does have a terrible name.

Yep.

I don't know, though. When MK64 came out I thought it was a huge disappointment, and am constantly befuddled when people bring it up as one of the best. The tracks in that one are some of the series worst.

I'm still unsure, though, what makes it so inferior to Super Mario Kart.

Spark Of Spirit

Wide courses with nothing to do VS. short and tight courses with tons of tricky turns and bumps.

There's also the framerate, the muddy and blurry graphics, and there's even less overall courses.

About the only thing I liked from MK64 was the battle mode and that was only for 4 player. Once DKR and CTR came out, MK64 pretty much vanished from our N64s.

I still like that games Bowser's Castle. Rainbow Road was kind of cool if only for that awesome jump you can do at the start, the stage is kind of bland otherwise, with some good music to make up for it.

I'd like to mention that Super Mario Kart was guilty of being very cheap, with Mario and Luigi getting free stars and all that.

Also, Mario Kart 64 brought us this ending theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txe5UbkbqK0

Oh yeah, there are good points to it. Royal Raceway is a great track and I still think Luigi Circuit is a perfect starting course, but as a whole I just find it dull.

I'd also like to mention that even if MK64 looks blurry, SMK's colors are too solid. :P

SMK ain't perfect, I agree. It's certainly no OutRun, but I do still like playing it every now and then.

I have also thought that MK64 was overrated. I gave the game a try for awhile but in the end I came to the conclusion that its set of courses are just not that good.

Yeah, whenever we play N64 at my friend's house, I get bored of Mario Kart easily, while I could go up in Smash for hours.

Besides the hideous blocky graphics (even Mario 64 has aged better, and that was the launch title!), there just isn't much fun or replay value in there as there are other MK games. It's also totally interference central.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Personally, I'd like to play Mario Tennis or something for a change of pace. I'd bring over my copy of Mario Party 3 if we were still doing it.

That reminds me, I've been in the mode to play games like Mario Party and Bomberman.
