Yeah, but I'll take bad designs over boring gameplay and level design, any day. I HATE fighting the headcrab enemies because there are too many of them and they don't have interesting AI or anything like that. They also remind me way too much of The Flood from Halo, which isn't a good thing at all.

Both of which Xen also has. :P

I don't know, I thought Ravenholm had great level design, personally. I mean, it definitely dragged on for a bit too long, but the traps were really fun to use against the enemies, and I liked the horror atmosphere a lot.

I just found it to be tedious after the first 10 minutes.

Yeah, that's understandable. It's not really one of my favorite levels or anything, but I do think it's well-designed for what it is.

I forgot about Earthbound and The Metal Slug games. I'd also put Metal Slug XX on the list. I thought you borderline hated The Lost Levels and Sly 3?

I don't like either, but they came to my mind while I was writing it. Lost Levels contains every sort of platformer level design that I hate and Sly 3 is barely even a platformer at all yet it's advertised as being one.

Yoshi's New Island should be listed now that I'm playing it.

I still think they should stop trying to top Yoshi's Island (since they apparently can't) and go for something different. From the look of things, the yarn game could be the one to do that.

The thing is, it's a step down from the original in every way (and why does Yoshi have feet the size of cars?) which makes me wonder why exactly this game was made in the first place.

It's not a bad game (it's actually a decent game), but there's no spark here at all. The gameplay is slower, controls are stiffer, the music is atrocious, the story is THE SAME THING FOR THREE GAMES IN A ROW WITH THE SAME CUTSCENES, and the level design is boring. Yoshi's Island DS was mediocre and this is just more of that. I don't know why they hired the same people to make this game that did that one.

But it could be worse. It could be Yoshi Story.
