Yeah, Max Payne 2 is hilarious. Part 3 is especially funny.

I have a feeling that Rockstar will implement both checkpoints and quicksaves into MP 3, since its design is more "old-school" than a lot of newer shooters. The only "throwback" game I know of that limits you to checkpoint saves is Hard Reset.

And the last few levels of Max Payne 1 are still ridiculously hard even if you savescum.

I've been playing my Ambassador's Yoshi's Island on my 3DS. I have 100% on every level (including the secret ones) and I'm starting on World 6.

Any hate this game receives is crazy.

Are you talking about Yoshi's Island DS?

I thought it was alright, but it just didn't stick with me like the original. I think the music has a lot do with that, which I never really cared for.

No, Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island for the GBA. It was an Ambassador title.

The DS game has an AWFUL soundtrack, I agree.

Ah, right. You'll have to excuse me when it comes to the 3DS; I still don't have one yet, so I'm a bit in the dark when it comes to some of these things.  :P

On that note, why would anyone hate the GBA remake? I mean, other than the added Yoshi/Baby Mario voices, and slight drop in sound quality, it was the exact same game but with even more to it. I love those secret levels especially; some of them are mind-numbingly difficult, but they're still fun.

Spark Of Spirit

I dunno, I always thought people overreacted to Baby Mario's voice. Yes, it was annoying- but that was the point. You're not supposed to get hit, and Baby Mario reminds you of why.

But getting 100% in a level is the best part. It makes the levels surprisingly long and meaty. But some of those hidden levels are mean! Kamek's Revenge and Poochie Ain't Stupid especially.

Kamek's Revenge is the single hardest level in the game, and nothing comes close. Trufax.

Imagine if it didn't have that checkpoint.  :-X

Man, I really hope that rumor it true about Goodfeel making a Yoshi's Island game. After Wario Land Shake It and Kirby's Epic Yarn, I know they could do it justice.

So, I'm currently in the middle of Mona Sax's portion of the game. I just got past the only part of the game that I distinctly remember hating, and now I can see why I hated it. To be specific, I'm referring to the portion where you have to provide cover fire for Max with a rifle, moving from vantage point to vantage point to take out all of his opposition for him. I won't lie, I suck at sniping. So I find it very infuriating that there is a whole mission based around having to snipe out guys so that Max can get through from door to door. Its also challenging in an annoying way since you pretty much have to be perfect in taking out guys quick enough, being that Max takes damage ridiculously fast and will die in a matter of seconds if you aren't quick enough on the trigger, leading me to have to find every possible chance to save in-between skirmishes, which doesn't even come that often since its a bad idea to save while Max is still out of cover. Overall its just not a very fun portion of the game, and for me is challenging in a way that I just don't find to be much fun.

That said I believe I'm completely done with that part, now (or at least I hope so), which means that the rest of the game should be smooth sailing from this point on if I remember it all correctly.

The escort mission in Part 3 is the hardest bit for me. The very end of it, specifically.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Ah, crap, I totally forgot that even existed. Well, I still have a lot left to rediscover about this game since I haven't played it in years, so I'll see how it is when I get to it. Really, if the game didn't have segments like this which just aren't much fun to play through, I think I might actually prefer it over the first game. That said, its still a great game overall, and still one of the best TPS experiences in all of gaming. I just feel like the first game was more consistently good for sticking to good old shoot-em-up action for the entire game rather than deviating into other mission-types like protection and escort missions, which I absolutely loathe playing.

Agreed. I feel like people really over-exaggerate the badness of the baby blood trail levels in Max Payne 1. They're extremely short and you can quicksave after every jump if you want to. Easy-peezy.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Yeah, I'm not a fan of those myself, but at least they aren't frustratingly difficult or anything. They are just annoying as hell to navigate, but they are pretty short, and they only occur twice in the entire game, so its not like they are a big hindrance to the game as a whole.

If Max Payne had Max Payne 2's infinite shootdodging and Bullet Time system (God, I love that shit), they had more V junkies you can fight (none being at the lab was just CRIMINAL. I think Jack Lupino was the last one.), the dream sequences were better and they didn't use random Remedy staff members as actors for the game, then MP1 would be perfect. Still easily my favorite TPS though. Even without Bullet Time, I think it would be the best.

Would it even be possible to beat Max Payne 1 without bullet time?
