Tomb Raider Legend revived my love for the series, and it doesn't wear out its welcome like some of the TR games do.  I'd say go for it!

As for favorite 3D platformers, my answer is probably not going to be very unique, but:
-Banjo-Kazooie (but not Tooie)
-Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Wrath of Cortex, Twinsanity (but NOT CoTT and MoM)
-Gex: Enter the Gecko (yes, seriously.  This game is still fun to play)
-Jak & Daxter
-Sonic Adventure 1 (but NOT 2)
-Sonic Generations (the 3D levels, natch)
-Spyro 1-3
-Super Mario 3D Land & World
-Super Mario 64
-Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2

I'm not including the TR games on my list since I more consider them action games.

Posting in this thread to raise awareness that Saints Row 4 is secretly a 3D collectathon platformer. There are straight shooter levels too (mostly before you get your superpowers), but the gameplay has been 80% jump 'n run 'n collect items 'n play N64/PS2-style mini-games so far. Plus, the story is hilarious, and it turns into a 2D beat 'em up at one point.

Yeah, they have platforming, but I consider the classic ones to be puzzle-adventure games and the reboot to be action-adventure.

I'm sad that no one else here likes Banjo-Tooie. I honestly thought I was going to hate it upon replaying it last year, but it ended up making its way back onto my all-time favorites list.

Good choices! I also remember liking Enter the Gecko when I played it long ago, but it's been a while. I don't think I've ever played the third one, though. Twinsanity was pretty good of what I played of it, it felt like a next gen Crash game should, though I did not like what I played of the other other post-Naughty Dog Crash games. I do wish Activision would give it to somebody who could do the series justice like Sanzaru.

I also like a few of the 3D Sonic games, though Colors has 3D segments, the platforming is pretty much entirely in 2D, though Adventure 1 and Generations are good platformers, too.

i wouldn't really count legend either but i had nothing else to put. i also added up your arsenal and going commando even though i have played very little of them. acit is the only ratchet i have ever beaten.

is twinsanity actually good?

i remember playing a gex demo and being weirded out. the level props were everything and the kitchen sink.

Twinsanity is odd. It's not as good as the Naughty Dog Crash games, but it's by far the best one they didn't make.

I heard that the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed got better critical reception than the PS3 and 360. Do you guys know why that is?

Nel_Annette

Because reviewers... are stupid? Who honestly would put the Wii version of Unleashed above the HD version? The only thing the Wii version did better was the final boss.

:wth:

I was just wondering if there was a substantial difference between the two versions.

i want tomba 2 and strider 2 so badly.

Lots. The Wii version could almost be considered an entirely different game if it weren't for having the same plot and level area. The level designs are entirely different, the playstyle, though similar, is slightly tweaked on the Wii to take advantage of that controller, two areas are eliminated completely from the Wii version, hub worlds are missing from the Wii version, replaced with jpegs of the towns and a temple area you can walk around in, medals needed to enter levels are obtained in a completely different manner, and there is a far greater focus on the Werehog in the Wii version, to the point that for every day stage, there are 3-5 night stages.

So the Wii version is much worse? :P

Yikes.  The Werehog is pretty much the main reason why I never bought Sonic Unleashed.

Speaking of Sonic Generations, I bought the 3DS version recently.  While both stages being in 2D kind of defeats the purpose of the game (well, the second levels are more like 2.5D, but you get what I mean), it was nice to have remixed versions of Casino Night and Mushroom Hill.

Both were released on the PSN Store in North America, though as I mentioned earlier, Tomba 2 is inexplicably the import version.

The only "Wii versions being better" about platformers I've heard about include Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Tomb Raider Legends, though I haven't played either. I heard The Forgotten Sands is an entirely different game, though.

^ Tomb Raider Legend wasn't released for Wii.  Anniversary and Underworld were, though.  I can't vouch for how good/bad Wii Anniversary is, but TRU for Wii had a really nasty bug in the second level that, if activated, would cause the exit to be inaccessible.  Plus they watered down many of the levels and it was crash prone.
