Would you guys say NSMB2 and NSMBU are worth playing for someone who finds the NSMB line stale?

Spark Of Spirit

U is the best NSMB game.

2 is not really worth it if you're burnt out on the sub-series.

Gotcha. I might consider playing 2 anyway. If I ever get a hankering I will probably purchase them digitally.

3D World is great so far.  Just beat the first World.

2 is okay. A lot of it feels (and is) recycled from past endeavors of the series, and for whatever reason I seem to get bored with it more quickly than I do most Mario games not named Sunshine, but as a score attack game it's kinda fun.

I'd say go for it. Still better than a good chunk of platformers out there.

I actually liked the coin thing in the game, thought it was neat, but it is true that if you are looking for something new or fresh in a Mario game(or even a NSMB game) then it isn't for you.

And I really haven't played too much of U; one of the unfortunate things about me playing Luigi U first is I don't have much interest in going back and playing the easier version of the game.

I actually had the opposite reaction. I got so sick of the Luigi version of things (fuck that time limit being in every level! It's already hard mode!) that now I just kind of want to play the game as it should be. I think the level designs aren't just hard versions of NSMBU's levels, they're brand new levels in the same spots on the map, and only the environments of each level seem to be the same.

Spark Of Spirit

Luigi U is almost like the Lost Levels version of U only not quite as masochistic.

The levels in U give more breathing room, though. I sort of prefer them as a whole.

Interesting tidbit: When you die in SM3DW, it plays a remix of the SMB3 death jingle. A cool little touch.

Otherwise, this game is pretty awesome. I haven't played much as Mario, though. Toad, Luigi, and the Princess are much more fun to use though I do use Mario ever now and then. Toad is my favorite, however. His speed is too good.

I should have also mentioned that those of you who miss the shell power-up from NSMB DS should enjoy a certain skill you have in this game.

SM3DW is fan-freakin-tastic. I also rarely use Mario since the other three are more fun to play as. Peach is my most used character.

Another great thing about it is, just when you think it's over, it's far from over. ;D

SM3DW has to be the longest I've taken to "beat" a Mario game and I still don't have all the green stars.

But I'm going to make a complaint. Nintendo, removing checkpoints doesn't make a level harder. Champion Road was more aggravating than it was hard because it was just set pieces that mostly relied on timed blocks for challenge when otherwise it was just a long string of them. The final level in Galaxy 2 was better at being challenging but still fun.

All in all, I think this might be the best 3D Mario game after Galaxy 2. I only say "might" because I haven't gotten around to doing multiplayer yet, and that might change everything for me like it did for NSMBWii. But I mean, if you have any proper interest in platforming and have a Wii-U, you really need to play it. Fantastic game.

Toad is the best, too.

I still have yet to beat Champion Road with any of the characters. Fuck that level. Every section's a brand new slice of hell. Everything else is fantastic though.
