I finally beat RE6 and, I have to say, overall I enjoyed it. It's got some bullshit moments and the chapters drag on way too long but when all is said and done I liked it.

I enjoyed RE6 more. I mean, it's certainly not Resident Evil anymore, but I was still able to have fun with it despite that. I will say though that most of the level design leaves much to be desires as it's pretty straightforward and doesn't leave much room for exploration.

One thing I do miss from RE4 and 5 is the ability to buy and upgrade weapons. In RE6 you just find them (with the HUD telling you where they are, no less). They also took out the treasures you could find and sell in RE4/5.

Try playing it again sometime. I did like RE6 quite a bit on my first run, but the flaws really shined through and overwhelmed me when I tried to play it again.

But even though I think 6 is technically worse than 5, I'd rather play the newer of the two. Seriously, fuck RE5.

Eddy

Yeah, I eventually plan to go back in and try the harder difficulties but I'm not in a rush to. I also want to go and get the Serpent Emblems I missed and now they patched the game to let you jump in at specific parts of the chapter I won't have to trudge through the entire thing to get them.

I liked RE6 quite a bit but I don't think any RE will be able to match the replayability of RE4.

Though I've been having a lot of fun playing co-op Mercenaries with my friend.

I still feel like when I play the game, I'll have a hard time agreeing with any of the people who say that its a 3 or 4 out of 10 sort of game. I mean, if you even enjoyed playing through the game once then it automatically can't be THAT bad. If its just hurt by bad replay value, then its still only a mediocre game at worst.

The problem is that some levels are an 8/10 while others are a 4/10. The game is neither excellent nor terrible all the way through, but it lapses between both, and frequently. On my first playthrough, I was too lenient, and on my second, I was too harsh. Now that I've thought about it some more, here's how I'd group the levels:

8/10
Leon 2
Leon 4
Chris 2
Chris 4
Ada 1
Ada 2
Ada 4

6/10
Leon 1
Chris 1
Chris 3
Chris 5
Jake 1
Ada 3

4/10
Leon 3
Leon 5
Jake 2
Jake 3
Jake 4
Jake 5
Ada 5

So on average the game is a mixed bag, but would probably be a 6/10 sort of game if you can trudge past the flaws? That about falls in line with what I was expecting.

Yeah, which pretty much falls in line with my original review.

I can play the better levels over and over and have tons of fun. But the bad ones and even the mediocre ones grate a lot. Thankfully, even if you just stick with the best ones, it still feels like a complete game because of how the story is told.

Spark Of Spirit

It sounds like Ada and Chris have the best parts of the game, but all the stories seem to end weak. Maybe the endings soured your opinion on the rest?

I will say that Ada's story is complete after Chapter 4. Her Chapter 5 feels completely pointless and you spend 3/4 of it in a helicopter. It's like it was only there because they were like "Well, everyone else has five chapters so..."

Thought I'd show you guys this. It's about the future of the franchise.

http://gengame.net/2013/01/reboot-of-resident-evil-is-a-possibility-in-future/

"If we did [go with an open-world], we would want to preserve what Resident Evil is and what makes it appealing to fans, while also making it accessible to new players. It would almost entail having a slight reboot to get the series into a place where it would work with open-world gameplay?that?s just a personal opinion."

"Once we see Revelations released on consoles, we?ll be looking very carefully at how the title is received and what feedback we get?I think we?ll get a lot of input from the fanbase and the media on what it means for Resident Evil, and what it could mean for the future of the series. We?ll definitely be looking at that as a signpost for where we need to be going next."

So if RER does better than 6, that might change something? I don't think it will, though. It's a port of an already released game.

I can't help but wonder. By "reboot", what exactly do they mean? Do they mean rebooting the gameplay style? Or everything, including the story and setting?

So, it looks like RE6 is out on Steam now. I figure one of these days I might just go ahead and get it to try it out.

Being that it's been quite a few months now since the game was released, I'm curious what people's current thoughts on the game are now.
