In the most shocking twist of the year so far, Resident Evil Revelations 2 is... mediocre, disposable filler with no reason to exist that looks and plays like it belongs on a handheld. Gee, however did I call that one? :thinkin:

I thought it was going to be the best in the series.

But in all seriousness, is there anyone out there who cares about this game? Did it get any hype? I feel like we've reached the point where nobody gets excited about Resident Evil anymore.

I would have loved playing it, but I'm happy with the RE4 we got.

The only wonder I have is if that trailer was maybe a bit too paranormal for a science fiction series like this. However, I figure they would have explained it by saying Leon was infected by a virus and is hallucinating or something. But yeah, that trailer was awesome, though not as awesome as the game we ended up getting.

So it's worse than the first one? Is Capcom capable of learning anything anymore?

To be fair, the first game got moderately good reviews and seems to be unanimously considered the best game in the series since 4... I'll let you decide if that means much, though.

Revelations 1 was a good game with bad parts, which contrasted quite nicely with RE6, since that one was a bad game with good parts. Revelations 2 looks like a step down in every regard (except writing; Rev1 features one of the worst video game stories ever penned). It also has microtransactions.

I don't know, but the gameplay videos and player impressions I've seen don't exactly make it look appealing.

In retrospect, maybe they should have ended it when RE5 turned out to be worse than expected. After all, that is the game that tied up the lose ends that were still dangling since the original RE (despite how poor a job it did), and at least then things wouldn't have gone from bad to worse.

Yep, watching that old RE4 trailer again, it looks like Leon was originally going to come into contact with some virus that caused him to see those creepy things. Also, the story involved Leon sneaking into Spencer's castle in the hopes of "finding the truth" and ending Umbrella. That plotline was scraped and saved for Umbrella Chronicles... and we all saw how that game handled the idea.

Though I think it's certainly for the best that Capcom made the RE4 that we ended up getting, I do have to say this trailer looked like it was going to be the scariest game in the series. That would have been nice. Resident Evil has some fairly scary games (REmake being the scariest), however, I have to say the games aren't that scary. They are great, well designed, atmospheric, and fun. But they certainly don't hold a candle to something like Fatal Frame or Silent Hill in terms of scares. It would have been interesting seeing Capcom in their good era attempting a truly scary game.

Good news talon, Capcom has FINALLY ported the RE5 DLC to PC! You can buy it on Steam right now.

The bad news is that it costs $15. For five year old DLC. That was originally released for $12. Thanks guys. I guess.

That's good to hear. I don't have 5 on Steam due to my lack of interest in that game, but if I ever do replay it and the DLC, this would probably be the way to go!

That price is terrible, though. I'll see if it goes down, first.
