Just because I was bored:

-Donkey Kong Country 2 is the best DKC game

-Super Mario World is one of the best Mario games ever made

-Halo: Combat Evolved is a classic game that deserves its recognition, and Halo 2 and 3 have excellent multiplayer

-BioShock has an amazing story

-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the best games ever made, and has aged incredibly well

-Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games ever made

-The classic Sonic games are still by far the best ones out there

-Sonic 2 is a much better game than Sonic 1

-Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is the best MVC game and probably the most enjoyable vs. game ever made as it has a good combat system but doesn't require you to be an absolute pro at fighting games to just have flat-out fun playing it

-Super Street Fighter IV is easily one of the best fighting games from last gen (unless you still count XBOX360 and PS3 games as part of the current generation, in which case I mean this gen), in that its very simple to pick up and play and have general fun with, but also has a very deep combat system and extremely technical mechanics which make it the perfect competitive fighting game as well

-Team Ninja is absolutely worthless without Tomonobu Itagaki

-Super Metroid is the best Metroidvania.

-BattleToads is hard.

It's sad that Donte and not Dante was in Sony Smash Bros. I wanted Kratos and Dante in the same game so that I can watch Dante kick the ever loving shit out of Kratos.

I find it interesting that, despite the stupidity of many gamers these days, the fact that when it comes to big franchises like the ones I listed above, they are generally spot on with recognizing quality.

While I can sort of agree with that, I'm not sure how popular of an opinion that is these days. Many modern gamers (and there are a TON of them) don't really have respect for the classics, and along with a completely idiotic bias towards Nintendo, you now have a lot of idiots who think that the Mario franchise isn't worth shit, and instead praise stuff like GTA or other such popular series as being the best of all time. I think its safe to say that the Mario franchise in general is still very popular, though, so I guess that opinion holds up as qualifying as popular, itself, for now.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 trumps the original Street Fighter Alpha, but Street Fighter Zero (the franchise's name in Japan) is the better name.

TMNT: The Arcade Game and Turtles in Time are the best Ninja Turtles games ever made.

Agreed. Of course you have ass-hats like JTP from TZ who bitch and moan about how the power scaling would make no sense in a game like that (you know, stuff that people who just want a good cross-over video game don't care about)

On that note, a Shonen Jump vs. Capcom game would be stellar as well, as long as they included more of the old-school SJ characters (i.e., Goku, Yusuke, Kenshiro, Kenshin, etc.)

This may be an unpopular opinion on my part, but if any company were to get the licenses to both DC and Marvel characters to make a full-on versus game between the 2, I'd personally want it to e Capcom. I know everyone hates them for their crappy business practices, and I do too, but gameplay-wise I think they make the most fun fighting games. Once again, though, that's more of an unpopular opinion than a popular one, these days.

lol Who gives a shit about power scaling? Those people must have been the same ones worrying about how Batman could fight Superman in Injustice. And I would prefer that Capcom did it too. I want to see how ridiculous there Superman would be.

Well, the highest selling games this past generation (other than Wii Fit and whatnot) have been New Super Mario Bros. DS, Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and Mario Kart Wii so it has to be pretty popular opinion that a lot of people like these games.

Not to mention extremely high selling games like the Galaxy games, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and the extremely high attachment rate for NSMBU despite low system sales.

In that case, I agree with the popular opinion. Those games deserve all the success they get.
