Konami has done nothing with Bomberman since they bought Hudson. If they can't even make games for their own series, then Hudson series like Bomberman have less than no chance at all.

Part of the problem is the overzealous fanbase, but most of the rest is because of how lazy Kojima got. Not one good reason Contra had to go down the way it did, they could at the very least have took better care of it and have that alongside MGS. There's plenty of other stuff Kojima might could have developed for them, but nope.
What? Barring the couple of times he's had real inspiration (MGS 3 and seemingly 5), Kojima hasn't even wanted to work on Metal Gear since the original MGS came out. Both 2 and 4 were allegedly made with the express intention of killing the series, then he handed off PO to another director and later tried to do the same with PW and MGR until it became necessary that he take over the former and give the latter to Platinum. He's not lazy - in fact, he and his team work very hard. It's just that Konami literally forces KojiPro to make nothing but MGS games day in and day out. The man's lucky he's even been given the chance to work on Silent Hill for a change.

I can't blame anything but the sales. Konami seems to just be responding to what sells and what doesn't.

gunswordfist

yea, kojima has wanted out on mgs since forever.

I think Silent Hill will be fine, as long as Kojima's take on it with Del Toro does well.

Aw crap!!  :wth:  :zonk:

I got my wires crossed and somehow mixed up Kojima with KONAMI. I meant to call them lazy; not him. I will say though, I don't really buy that whole "he was trying to kill it" stuff. I mean, I know people are still weirded out by the Patriots, but Sons of Liberty still wasn't that bad and Guns of the Patriots managed to tie everything together.

Ah, okay. :)

I'm not exactly sure I believe it either, since both were quite good from a gameplay standpoint at the very least, but it's a pretty widespread rumor, so I figure it must have something substantiating it.

The Patriots story idea was interesting. Especially at the end of MGS2 when they were nailing Raiden with facts about himself that he just couldn't face. The problem was that 4 had so much story content and it was too much to grasp.

Hopefully the fact that Metal Gear will have absolutely nowhere to go after the next game will mean something.

I was alright with The Patriots until the reveal that they were all giant computers. I just thought that was ridiculous, there was no reason the Wisemen Committee couldn't have been actual people. I did think the smokescreen with the Philosophers in Snake Eater was clever, as well as Big Boss and his entire support team plus Ocelot being the original Patriots was actually very clever. But the whole A.I.s/computer thing stretches the suspension of disbelief a bit. Yes, even despite cyborg ninjas and WMD carrying giant mechs running around.

The biggest frustration with the Patriots being A.I.s is that you never even get to fight them.  :imnothappy:

talonmalon333

I don't think a human group of Patriots would have worked, actually. I don't know, it just would have felt weird meeting them so late in the series. I feel like it was better to keep the focus on Ocelot as the opposing living force. Plus, it was already kind of suggested in MGS2 that the Patriots were computers.

Besides, it's not like they were really computers. Like you said, the true Patriots were the MGS3 crew. Which was a a bit depressing as I liked those guys. It's sad thinking about how corrupted they became. Para-Medic, the girl who assisted in Operation Snake Eater because she cared more about Snake's life than her medical license, had no problem putting him into a coma a few decades later, and just as easily was willing to clone him despite saying in MGS3 that cloning seems very morally wrong.

I've been saying Konami is awful for years.

I'm still waiting for Gradius V to be put up as a PS2 classic, for instance. And they said they were gonna put it up over three years ago. They can't even re-release their old games in a timely manner.

Hey Foggle, you played NES Metal Gear, right? I heard the actual Metal Gear robot doesn't appear in that game (whereas it was the final boss of the original MSX version). Is that true? And if so, what's the point of the game being called "Metal Gear" anymore? :P

Foggle

Yup, Metal Gear does not appear in the NES version. That whole port was a clusterfuck in general, so it's unsurprising that they would still call the game Metal Gear despite removing the titular robot from it.

gunswordfist

So that's why no one talks about the NES version...
