Kart Racers:

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Diddy Kong Racing
Crash Team Racing
Super Mario Kart
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing

IMO, the best in the genre.
Crash Team Racing is my favorite. I never played Double Dash or Diddy Kong.

If you like CTR, you'll probably like DKR. They share a lot of similarities. The soundtracks to these games are great too.

Diddy Kong Racing
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing

And you know the rest. I wish we had more good games in this genre.

Once I think about it, I've only played CTR on that list.

You're missing out. While 3 of them are more arcade-y racers, Diddy Kong Racing has an adventure mode, a fantastic soundtrack by David Wise (probably one of the best racing soundtracks there is), a tone of variety, and really well designed courses.

The game is pretty hard, however.

Those boss races... :oo:
And Silver Coin challenges.  :-X

I would love another racer like it, though.  :D

To this day, I still haven't beaten those (the second portion, with the reversed tracks; granted I haven't tried in a few years, but I digress). Greenwood Village... I just gave up after that one. The coin placement in that course is TORTURE. So... much... backtracking...

Love DKR, though. Probably my favorite racing game ever. Beats MK64 by a country mile.

I just played DKR about a month ago for the first time in nearly 8 years. Surprised at how well it's held up.

Have you guys tried the DS version? I was wondering if it was worth it (especially on a 3DS with the circle pad instead of d-pad) if only for the portability.

My friend bought it on release day and has told me many times that it is complete shit. He's a diehard fan of the original, too.

Kiddington

Nope, not yet. I've been meaning to, but some of the things I've heard about it have kept me away for the time being; the music wasn't ported very well (a few of the best tracks in the original, including this one, apparently aren't even in the game at all), the gameplay lags, and Banjo and Conker are no longer playable characters.

From what I'm told, though, it does have some nifty extra features; new courses, and even a track editor. One of these days I'll have to give it a look just for the heck of it.

More in depth than CTR's? Sounds like the perfect kart game.
