Yeah, basically. My father doesn't like most of the same things I do, but I still respect his opinions.

The crying emoticon was just a joke. I feel the same as both of you. ;)

Oh, here's a weird tidbit.

When I was visiting one of my friends last week he had gotten the Streets Of Rage Collection on the 360, so we decided to play through SoR1 from start to finish. Oddly enough we get to the last level and midway through the level I get thrown to the left side of the screen by a random enemy and the game jumps into the last cutscene + credits and my friend gets the achievement for beating the game which I already had.

That is the weirdest SoR-related glitch I've ever had.

What's this? Actual Black Mesa Source gameplay!? Some fantastic footage from the remade On A Rail level.

Not a fan of the damage indicators or the Resident Evil 2-tier voice acting (which is apparently intentional), but it looks bloody phenomenal. I really like how they added a second tram with soldiers on it to fight! Though I do miss the TNT puzzle.

Can't fucking wait for this mod.

Sorry for double posting, but I'm really curious as to what other people who've played HL 1 think of that footage. :)

The funny thing is that I JUST beat that level the other day, so its pretty fresh in my memory, and I have to say that while I wasn't particularly a fan of this level in the original, this remake looks really good. For one thing I can see that it has improved the level design with some subtle changes. For example, that scripted moment where you can sneak up on those 2 guys from behind is done much better, here. In the original you came out of a door and they were standing out in front behind a small flight of stairs, which kind of put you at an awkward angle to take advantage of ambushing them. Over here, you see them right as you open that door so that part just flows more smoothly (yeah, I know that's really nit-picking on my part, but I just like that set-up better). The graphical difference is also amazing. It really reminds me of the jump from Halo: CE's graphics to Anniversary's graphics, in that regard.

One thing I don't like is how there is no indicator for the speed of the tram you're going on, though. If you look closely, you can see that the switch probably indicates the speed, in that if its all the way up then you're at max speed, but I kind of just prefer the yellow bars indicating what level of speed you're going at. Once again, though, its a minor gripe.

Basically, I find this gameplay clip to be really good compared to the original version of the level. I'd definitely play a full HL1 remake with those graphics and that general design. I could live with the cheesy voice-acting, honestly.

::EDIT::

I just noticed something while watching the video. Was that shortcut at the end in the original version of the game? Because if so, that would have saved me so much trouble. I had to access that same room by carefully moving up a flight of stairs while avoiding those easy to trip lasers that caused all of the dynamite in the room to explode.

The cheesy voice acting grew on me quickly (I think it's hilarious), but I found it really jarring at first because I've played HL 1 at least 10 times (and Uplink even more). The footage is apparently darker than the actual game according to the devs, so you can probably see the bars on the tram screen much better while playing. The graphics are so damn impressive too, especially for a fan-made Source mod. Truly mind-blowing.

They also said that it's not a 1:1 remake (as you can tell). They tightened up the pacing a bit and added some extra content to make it more fun. And they completely revamped Xen, so it might actually be good this time. And then, of course, is the fact that HL 2 just feels much better to play than the first one in general. Seriously can't wait for this mod.

They made the glass breakable and removed the TNT room completely, from what I can tell.

So, uhhhh....Now it seems like IGN is doing to do a list of the top 25 modern Nintendo games. I wonder how this one will go over.

I'm willing to bet that they'll probably end up ranking NSMB DS over NSMB Wii, and probably over-rate the hell out of some more gimmicky games and put more deserving games at lower rankings just because they love to fuck up any list that they make.

Foggle

Let me guess... Super Mario Bros., Mario 64, or Ocarina Of Time will be number one.

EDIT: OH RIGHT, MODERN. NEVER MIND. IGNORE MY STUPIDITY.

Wii Sports Resort will get first place.

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Ranking NSMB DS as their #1 choice will probably be their modern Nintendo equivalent of ranking Super Marios Bros. as the best Nintendo game (which they already DID do for their top 100 NES games list). Either that, or they'll probably do something stupid like rank the 1st Super Mario Galaxy over the 2nd one, or rank The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword over Twilight Princess (I haven't played either game, but I do know that TP is the one that is more liked by fans).

Whatever the case, its IGN, so you know that they'll find some way to fuck this list up.

I actually think IGN has put together some solid lists. Their top 20 for the Wii was quite good, for example.

Super Mario Galaxy 2, FTW.

Spark Of Spirit

If SMG1 is above 2, then I just don't know.

Still, I guarantee the Wii gets shafted for the DS for most picks. IGN simply loathes the Wii.

Well, they did give Skyward Sword a perfect score, and there are a lot of Wii games that they clearly like and have given a more than fair shake, so I wouldn't really say that they despise the Wii (once again, that notion belongs to G4). I do think that they have some unnatural bias for platformers, though, in that they prefer the handheld ones on the DS to the Wii ones for no good reason other than that they don't think that they should be paying full price for a console platformer.

Come on, that's a little far. SMG2 isn't that much better than SMG. :P
