The propeller suit is a fun item. Basically a double jump and floating item at the same, it's probably my favorite flying power up in the series.

Didn't you use to praise Super Mario Land 2?

No, it only has the bunny ears.

The propeller suit is in the two console NSMB games.

So, I've thought up ideas for a new great 2D Mario. Feel free to comment if you like my ideas or disagree with them.

- Multiple playable characters, each with their own abilities. They could include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Daisy, and Wario. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong could also be there as unlockable characters, particularly if this were some instance where Retro collaborates with Nintendo. Maybe Rosalina, too. Also, if the game features an original villain, maybe Bowser could even be a playable character. They could throw in Waluigi, too. Just saying. :awesome:

- Clever, unique worlds, as Mario was capable of before. No lifelessly following the Grass-Desert-Ice-Whatever blueprint based on SMB3. I'm sure everyone here, if they thought about it, could think of a list of creative ideas. We could even dig into Mario's past, ideas that were once used but haven't been explored since, or haven't been used to their potential. For example, while I don't think SMB2 was a great game, it had some creative world ideas. They could also utilize the space motif from Galaxy, only pull it off in a 2D Mario way.

- Bring back Yoshi as he was in SMW, as a power-up rather than a level gimmick. And bring back the variety of Yoshi's seen in that game (flying Yoshi, fire breathing Yoshi, earth pounding Yoshi, etc.) and maybe even some new Yoshi colors with new powers.

- More in-depth multiplayer. Bring back coop like in the NSMB games where everyone plays on the screen at the same time, and turn-based multiplayer like in SMW. They could also allow competitive turn-based multiplayer like SMB3. Allow the option for online play, too.

- HD visuals that use the Wii U's power to its best. And, more importantly, just make the visuals of the game very nice. More like Galaxy than the NSMB games which, while looking nice, also kind of looked basic.

- Great music that distances itself from the average NSMB theme. Orchestration, too.

Basically, I'd like to see 2D Mario get the effort, gameplay variety, and the bells and whistles of 3D Mario. SMG and SMG2 are my favorite games in the series. However, I might be inclined to say that, on paper, 2D Mario is better than 3D Mario. It just hasn't hit the peak of 3D Mario yet, at least not in my opinion. SMB3 is a phenomenal game but I think they have the ability to top even that. Just go all out, Nintendo.

But of course, I know this game will never exists. At the very least, I hope some of these ideas happen.

Speedy

I just want to see a follow-up to Super Mario Bros. 2.

Couldn't agree more on this point.  For the next Mario game, I really hope they don't stick to the same formula for world themes.  It was fun for nostalgia in NSMB Wii, but we don't need it for every new game.  This is part of why the Galaxy series was so good:  Because it had variety.

Kind of why I liked Super Mario World's overworld. No typical grass>desert>ice>ocean>jungle>mountain>lava setup, just natural locations on an island, while still keeping a variety of level types.

Sounds fun. Let me look these over.

Fine. As long as it keeps 4-player co-op. What you're describing i pretty much Super Mario 3D World, anyway.

They already did this in Super Mario 3D World, so I agree.

I'd rather he played like he did in NSMBWii and U. In other words, like he controls in Yoshi's Island without infinite hover or egg shooting. On the other hand, since he has his own series, maybe he shouldn't be playable here now. Either way, I'd rather he not play like he did in Super Mario World.

So, like Super Mario 3D World only with online? Sounds fun.

So, like Super Mario 3D World only in 2D? Sounds cool.

So, like Super Mario 3D World? Sounds like a good soundtrack.

After Super Mario 3D World, I think they could easily do it. For all we know, that could be the next big Mario game coming.

Well, most of your wishlist is already in the most recent 3D Mario game, so it is very possible for it to be in a 2D game. It just depends on what Mario game arrives next.
