you're mostly referring to the tank controls, right?

i never got to play a whole silent hill game, just the very long silent hill 4 demo, which i liked.

Yep.

Also, the original Silent Hill is the scariest video game I've ever played, no question.

then that would be a good starting point for me. :) i wonder if it's on psn.

edit: it apparently is.

The first 3 are amazing, 4 is great at first but eventually becomes tedious, Origins isn't particularly noteworthy in terms of quality, Homecoming is mostly bad but has a couple of neat moments, Shattered Memories is an interesting experiment that ultimately falls flat, Downpour is filled with potential but was terribly put together, and Book of Memories is a Diablo clone exclusive to the worst current gen system. What I'm trying to say is, play the original trilogy and then maybe the fourth one if you really want more. Oh, and check out P.T. if you ever get a PS4.

Yeah, Silent Hill sort of crumbled, and the downward spiral began with 4.

Foggle

P.T. is legit though, so I have high hopes for Silent Hills.

P.T. Is the only game that I have ever tried that is actively scary to play, or even to watch. I love the bits that I've played or watched other people play with games like Silent Hill and Fatal Frame, but the feeling I get is more of an intrigue to see what happens next, and perhaps a bit of nervous excitement. As for P.T. on the other hand, it manages to put me on edge with atmosphere and sound effects alone.

Foggle

I get scared pretty easily by video games, but the only ones where I've been on edge the whole time were Fatal Frame 2-4, Silent Hill 3, and, yes, P.T. :D

Dr. Ensatsu-ken

Perhaps I'll get that feeling if I ever play those games in full. To be fair, I was playing them or watching them be played with friends in the room, but then again the same thing applies to P.T. and it still freaked the hell out of us. We'd be joking and trash-talking amongst each other just like in the other games, and then we'd hear that creepy, exasperated sound of someone breathing behind our character, and we'd all fall dead silent and after a moment we'd speak in soft voices and try to figure out what to do, and then argue over whether going forward would get us killed not. :D

gunswordfist

i'll check out the trilogy theb 4 and p.t. whenever i can. survival horror is an underexplored genre for me.

I actually didn't think 3 was that scary. Not much more than 2. The original is the one that I thought was really scary. That hospital with those creepy nurses is Silent Hill at its scariest.

talonmalon333

Foggle, do you know what's the best control option for the PC port of Revelaitons?

Foggle

I haven't played it myself, but probably an Xbox 360 controller in third-person mode with the RE4-style scheme.

talonmalon333

What did you guys think of the early "hook man" Resident Evil 4 trailer?

Foggle

In the most shocking twist of the year so far, Resident Evil Revelations 2 is... mediocre, disposable filler with no reason to exist that looks and plays like it belongs on a handheld. Gee, however did I call that one? :thinkin:

I would have loved playing it, but I'm happy with the RE4 we got.

So it's worse than the first one? Is Capcom capable of learning anything anymore?
