Guess who’s back! Sorry for the long absence and the missed reviews. I’ve had a lot on my plate these last couple of weeks, from finishing up work on an internship to going back to school, among a slew of other minor inconveniences. But I’m ready and raring to go again! Hopefully I have these up on time for the remainder of the year, though I can’t keep any promises. It’s a bummer I missed the last couple of issues,…
I was not surprised by this announcement. Yu-Gi-Oh! has been a permanent fixture of the english Shonen Jump since the very beginning. Viz replacing ZeXal with Arc-V was a foregone conclusion. It’s the fact that we’re getting it before a Straighten Up! or Best Blue announcement, much less Assassination Classroom, that rather irks me. Sure, it isn’t like Arc-V is taking up a weekly spot; it’s only taking over ZeXal’s former place as a monthly series. But I really want…
Last time on Animation Revelation…okay, no one on this site actually reviewed Battle of Gods. But Lord Dalek went over why Toei sucks as a studio in detailed fashion around the same time it was released in the U.S. last year, which sorta counts! And now, three fanboys stand to face the challenge of reviewing the franchise’s latest installment, “Resurrection ‘F’”! But is it a feature worthy of the franchise, or just a cheap cash-in to trick die-hard fans out…
Last week I quipped that I might shank someone if they added D. Gray-Man into Jump. And take a wild guess at what happened this week?! …No, I wasn’t arrested for shanking someone. I didn’t shank anyone. That was a joke. But yeah, D. Gray-Man is this month’s Jump Back. I don’t really have anything against early D. Gray-Man; I didn’t start to particularly dislike it until after the Noah’s Ark arc when the series just started becoming convoluted and…
I honestly can’t even believe this OVA was produced. That’s right! Diabolik Lovers (that horrible rape-ridden vampire show from 2013) is back, to the applause of literally no-one! The only response the OVA announcement yielded was the s̶͡oun͝d҉͘ ͝o͢f̵͜͡ ͜me̷͢ ̡̡͠vi̸̕c̢̛͟i̢͢o̡u̸͢͝s͜l͝y̸̛ c͠r͟y͏i̢̢͡n̶ǵ̢͢,́ k̡͘ņo̧̡̕c͜͝k͠in̢͞g̨ m͡y͢͢͞s͡e͞l͠f̶ ͠ba̢c͠͝͠k͢͠ ҉̷a̸͘ńd̶ ̧f̨̀҉o͞͡r̛̕t͟ḩ͘͡ ̧i̵n ͢a͡͝ ͜d́͠u̧ś̨̨t̷̨y͘,́ ͘f͟ilt͟͠͡h́y ̶c̷o҉͜r̶̢̢ne͟r̡̛ trying to forget this media franchise existed in the first place. You don’t even want to imagine my reaction to the second season announcement, because lots of bad things…
Can I just say that I was so bummed that we didn’t get a Assassination Classroom or Straighten Up! announcement at the end of the issue? With both a Jump Start and Jump Back ending in this issue, it would have been the perfect time to debut a new series in the next. Assassination Classroom has become one of Viz’s most successful manga in sales this year, and next week’s chapter is the 150th; it would have been the perfect…
Contrary to what I had said previously, in terms of actual page count this issue wasn’t really that much longer than last week’s. However, the return of Nisekoi and World Trigger has upped the series count to ten, and these are all fairly substantial, so I still had to write a lot more. I certainly don’t mind, as this was a surprising issue in more ways than one. Though that also made it more time-consuming to talk about, which is…
AUTHOR’S NOTE: Yeah….I know… I’m late. Fucking Clusterfuck taken up all my free time, I’m tellin ya. Whelp, back to Crowds. Last time on Crowds…nothing happened (sur-prise, sur-priiiiiiiiise). This time on Crowds… Something happened!…but not much. Introducing our new villain, Rizumu Suzuki, a medical student who also received the CROWDS note from presumably Berg-Katze (don’t rule out Gelsadra just yet) but didn’t use it fearing its awesome potential if abused. But then Rui proceeded to do so for the benefit…
Classroom Crisis Classroom Crisis seems like its been beamed in from the late 90’s. Specifically the post-Evangelion boom years when everything old seemed new again and a nostalgia fueled retro revival started gaining lots of steam. Said boom of course later petered out and thus we’ve spent the last decade making “anime is saved!/doomed” jokes because of the vicious cycle the industry has been engulfed in. But back in those days, we’d take a candy colored exercise in shonen silliness…
It feels like a long, long time since we’ve had an issue that didn’t go over 200 pages, but here we are. Because of various circumstances, neither World Trigger, Nisekoi, or One-Punch Man were in this week’s issue, leaving the total series count to be below double digits for the first time in ages. If there wasn’t a Jump Start debuting or a Jump Back being run, this issue would have only been 6 series full and less than 130…
