Favorite Games Ever (Besides Ninja Gaiden, Obviously)

Spark Of Spirit

It's a great game, and the GBA port is the definitive version. Better music, less freaky atmosphere (it feels more like the first two), and better voices (nobody likes Kiddy), as well as less annoying minigames make it a much better game.

Shame it was overshadowed by the N64 when it came out, it's a pretty good little game.

The only thing I don't like about that game is Kiddy.  I don't use him unless I have to(like if I lose Dixie).

And to me it's better than DKC and behind DKC2.

What the heck are you guys talking about, in terms of it having a "darker atmosphere"? ???

DKC3 is so light and upbeat. It makes me want to go to a summer camp or something. DKC2, on the other hand, is more sinister and intense in terms of atmosphere, sometimes even gloomy (on the DKC scale). :P

Spark Of Spirit

I dunno about Kiddington, but I called it freaky- not dark.

The banana birds, the fact that almost everything is a robot, every boss is wacked out, the strange bear brothers, and the unfitting SNES soundtrack (that sounds like a picnic or something), are so weird. It's like some bizarre vacation getaway to backwards-ville or something.

I can't find my GBA DKC3 :shit:  I seem to be missing quite a few of my GBA games.  Maybe I need to get more organized.

"Freaky" is a bit more understandable. Most of the bosses in the game are indeed kinda creepy. But I don't think much else is.

I think the SNES soundtrack was better than you give it credit for. It's not as good as the GBA one, but I think it comes close. I like the overall atmosphere of the game, with forest and lakes and all that, as I described before, "summer camp" material (though they probably didn't need to make the cover look like some river racing DK spin-off). The bears add to the atmosphere, especially in the SNES version... Too bad they're meaningless from a gameplay point of view. :P

DKC2 wins in terms of atmosphere though. Pirates, plus a classic adventure theme, equals awesomeness.

Kiddington

When I said that, I was talking mostly about the SNES soundtrack, where a lot of the themes, at least to me, sound and feel a lot darker and more sinister than past DKC themes (again, this one especially; I don't know what about this sounds upbeat, because I'm not hearing it). Some of the levels too, mainly the forest levels. Maybe the storyline not so much, but you know what I mean.

I've never played the GBA version, so I can't comment on that.

I see that song as an exception. Not the rule. Also, in the GBA version, they really made it more upbeat and joyful. :P

Shit! I forgot to mention to Foggle, but Killer7 was Wiki's article of the day.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

Yeah, which fits more for me with the forest levels. I didn't mind the darker tunes in the factory/barn levels since they were, you know, darker, but the tune in the SNES version just didn't work for me. It felt like someone made the soundtrack based on concept art or something, it never really worked for me.

While I stand by my point, I do think the Treetop Tumble theme was better in the SNES version, if only cause having the GBA's joyful music doesn't work when a giant saw is chasing you. :P

Spark Of Spirit

The creepy music doesn't work so well for that stage as well. I dunno, the saw level never made much sense to me.

I'm not sure I get your logic here. :P

You don't really need to. The level doesn't make much sense no matter how you slice it, so there isn't really any appropriate music for it. The whole saw thing doesn't feel very DKC at all to me.

At least in the GBA version I get to hear a catchy tune
