I have to actually give them props for not putting SM64 at 1
It's a Zelda site, and both OoT and MM were on the N64. What did you expect?

QuoteMetroid Prime Trilogy is kind of cheating.
I guess you can just pretend that they meant MP3. ;)

Well, it's usually OOT or SM64 so I still have to give them a nod on that.

Oh, forgot GBC. That was the worst list. Too many ports, double entries, and no obscure games other than Shantae. If they put Super Mario Deluxe or the Orace games as two separate entries, where's Link's Awakening DX?

The Gamecube list is a hot mess. They call Wind Waker one of the pinnacles of the Zelda franchise and the cube in general, and then go to call it an absolute disaster in Twilight Princess's entry.

What?

Yeah, about that... they let a guy who's a massive TP fanboy/WW hater write the TP summary. :P

it didn't quite meet the greatness of the original

Yeah, I was confused by that part, too. Almost makes it sound like their questioning their own list.

Also, I'm sorry, I just can't classify TP as a Gamecube game. I know that it was originally made for the console and did in fact come out for it, but it was a Wii launch title, and I still believe that more people played it there than on the cube.

I still consider it a GC title, largely cause the Wii port is a mirrored vision of it.

Nothing worth losing was lost in the sequel. I can see people preferring the original, but the sequel didn't remove anything people enjoyed from the original that isn't superficial.

While not much, I actually preferred the style of the original. It was more space-esque, from the look of the game and its soundtrack. The sequel feels much more like typical Mario, which is a good thing. I just preferred SMG1's atmosphere.

They at least knew not to put the DS Zelda games high on those lists. Though I had hoped fanboyism would keep them from putting Skyward Sword at #1 on the Wii list. :P

I think they mentioned they didn't want to include DX titles... but apparently Super Mario Deluxe is fine.

I might list all of my issues with the choices at some point. If ZI had made these lists years ago, with their old staff members, I feel pretty confident the choices would be much better. As they are though, I think the lists are mostly bad, especially the GameCube and Wii lists.

Uh, no. Fusion should be at the bottom of the list at best. Too many of the bosses suck and Metroid controls on the GBA isn't the greatest thing in the world.

Astro should be on the list (at #1  :humhumhum: )

The only thing Galaxy 2 lost from the first was any resemblance of a story.

2 really was just "Mario must face Bowser", but even then, who cares about the story in Mario? It's the gameplay that matters, and 2 was just that much more fun than the first.

Also, idk about you guys, but I would have put WarioWare at #1 for GBA games.
Life is not about the second chances. It's about a little mouse and his voyage to an exciting new land. That, my friend, is what life is.

Sir, do you have any Warrants?
I got their first CD, but you can't have it, motherfucker!

That's why you play Fusion and Zero Mission on the GameCube, PC, or Wii. :P

I still can't believe none of the lists house the best Mario Kart games. So weird.

I play it on my GB Micro and 3DS. Big and small, it still feels good to me, and I have big hands!

The only boss in Fusion I don't like is the one where you fall into a bit and take constant damage and can't get out. That rivals Mother Brain as NES level cheapness I can do without.

I love using the Game Boy Player (remember that!?) or a PC emulator to play the GBA Metroid games. They actually look damn good on the big screen, and I think they play much better with a gamepad.

I was never really big on Double Dash, so its exclusion didn't bother me. :humhumhum:

No SMK was odd though.

talonmalon333

Seems a lot of you guys think SMG2 was easily better than SMG1.

I mean, I guess I agree. But in my mind, it's pretty much a 10/10 versus a 9.99/10 difference. They are both by far my favorite Mario games, and are side by side as some of my all time favorites.

Spark Of Spirit

I think it's better, but if someone likes the original better they have very good reasons to think its better. But the hub world, story, and atmosphere are disposable reasons and more about preference than thinking its better. The thing is, most lists that put 1 over 2 never seem to really explain it beyond those superficial reasons even though there are legit reasons for preferring it as a whole.

No SMK, or MKDS (even if I don't care for it I know it's a fan favorite) either is strange. MKWii and MK64 as the only representation is odd.

I know that MK64 gets mixed opinions overall, but I though MKWii was agreed to be a good Mario game aside from cheap AI? I would've replaced Mario Kart 64 with F-Zero X.

And Star Fox Assault ranking higher than both GX and RE4 is just wrong on so many levels.

Spark Of Spirit

I like Mario Kart Wii, but it has the same problem as MK64 to me where there are clearly better options to play. The item spam REALLY hurts the game to me and the battle mode isn't too great with the team only stuff. Otherwise I think it's great. The tracks are excellent.

Star Fox Assault is just weird. At least Adventures I could understand.

You guys are surprised SMK didn't make the SNES list? I mean, it's a great game, and arguably the best in the series. But this is an SNES list. Ya gotta leave out some classics. :P

Also, RE4 at #10 should be a punishable crime, particularly when Sunshine is #5.

A break from previous discussion...

So I hope all you guys who wanted the Donkey Kong Country games on the Virtual Console have purchased them, because as of today Nintendo has removed them from the service.

I only had DKC 2 downloaded :-\. Had I known I would've bought the other two.
