A bit straight foward, but every board has one.
Anyway, "Baby Doll' by Chuck Berry is what I'm spinning now. What's not to love about the man?
Been mostly listening to The Roosters first two albums. It's pretty much all I can find, anyway.
Lately I've been listening to mostly heavy metal (which I'm addicted to) and Disney villains songs.
Right now I'm listening to Abigail by King Diamond.

Dire Straits- "Money for Nothing"
Been on an kick with these guys lately, as well as a few other old acts. Yeah, I guess I do mostly listen to old people music.
As opposed to kid music or mopey teen music? :P
It's always been just music to me.
Yeah, I guess. Most people call it dadrock or old people music when I mention that I'd rather listen to stuff like Steely Dan and The Doors than most shit from today.
Now I'm playing that one song by that one band that became like the biggest hit ever. Like, Stairway to Teen Spirit or something.
When I think of "old people music" I usually think of showtunes from the 30's or something. I grew up with Zeppelin and Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd and all that shit thanks to my dad(didn't really jump into "modern" music until the mid-90's, with Green Day and The Offspring being my first real tastes of it), and despite the fact I think it's bad to generalize it so, I usually just refer to it as classic rock.
Besides, how can people blame you for listening to Steely Dan over 3OH!3 or whatever other shit is all over the radio these days? I don't see how people can listen to more than two or three consecutive songs really. I love listening to the "oldies" stations; listening to America or Chicago or even Carly Simon is something I'd rather do than hear another awful Katy Perry song.
People are just ignorant like that. I'll give anything a chance, but I do dislike most crunkcore and modern pop that I've heard, while a lot of people here act like the music industry didn't exist before Thriller.
It's not even like I hate all modern music. I'll name artists from the past few years that I like left and right, even more popular stuff like Eminem or Demi. If something's good, it's good. But if I use the radio, more often than not, I'll leave it on a classics station.
I wonder why Nirvana isn't old people music yet? That stuff is getting into two decades old now.
There is some pop music that is alright or even good. I know I've mentioned before that I like much of Rihanna's music. Lady Gaga, even though I don't particularly like her, has some pretty good pop songs. But it's the generic shit, the auto-tune, the soft-ass rap, the boyband revival shit, all the Usher soundalikes that really kill me. I can listen to some really bad pop music from past years, like Frankie Goes to Hollywood or Wham!, but none of it is less-inspiring than the pop music of today. Sometimes it comes off like the people singing the songs don't even like what they are singing, like they are well aware that they are there strictly to make Warner Bros. or Sony BMG money, and they aren't having fun with it at all. Hell, even "Karma Chameleon" made the band sound like they were having a good time making it.
I have heard about some classic rock stations playing RHCP and Pearl Jam now, so Nirvana shouldn't be too far behind.
The main classic rock station here is weird, though. They pretty much stopped playing all 60's music, stuff from Zeppelin's first two albums aside, and mostly play bands like Van Halen, Aerosmith, and Rush. They also recently just added Black Crowes and Illusion-era GNR, so I don't know if we'll get older alternative on there any time soon.
There's a couple of other stations on here, but they're mostly top 40 from the 60's, 70', and earllllly 80's (except for one that plays Michelle Branch for some reason), and one that plays anything from the 80's to today, so I don't know what's up with all of them.
Back home we only have one true classic rock station(but half a dozen country stations. Go figure), The Eagle, and they are pretty good at covering the bases. Yeah, they played a lot of Zep or Kiss or Def Leppard, but they'd also sneak in some CCR or Allman Brothers. They completely stray away from anything made past the 80's though, spare stuff like "Living on the Edge" or "Mary Jane's Last Dance". The other former classic rock station used to focus on the heavier classic rock, and played more hairmetal than their competitor. Unfortunately, people in Boise didn't much like that anymore, so the station got flipped, and it's almost like a Bob/Jack FM of rock, where they will play Van Halen one moment and The Pretenders the next.
This one right here though (http://www.khits.fm/), this was the one I was talking about. SUPER HITS OF THE SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES! 107.1 K-HITS! Bring on the Supertramp or the Elton John.
Once again the 50s gets left out. If only there was a station that would play everything without clear bias for a certain artist or era.
We used to have a classic rock station, but literally every time I turned it on, it was the Beach Boys. I like the Beach Boys, but they were not the only classic rock act to ever form.
Yeah, the 50s are kinda scarce now. We had another oldies station that played 50s music up until about five years ago, but it's now one of those half a dozen country stations I mentioned.
No 50's here either.
Occasionally, VERY occasionally, the classics station that also plays Michelle Branch will put "Mystery Train" on, but that's it.
Damn shame, too, since I'd love to hear some good old rock n' roll here again.
What classic station plays Michelle Branch? That's fucking ridiculous. Yeah, Boise had a station that played that, it's called Mix 106, but it's played alongside Madonna and Sixpence None The Richer, not The Beatles or some shit.
I can't stomach alternative station, either. It's always some lame and bland Nickleback clone and generic modern rock. They don't play real alternative, just music with distortion.
But yeah, radio sucks. I don't see that changing any time soon.
I don't even know. It mostly plays stuff like Roy Orbison, CCR and ABBA, but occasionally they'll pull that shit on.
The other one I mentioned is more trendy than classic/current, I guess. They can go from Journey one second to Lady Gaga to 90's Green Day to Madonna to Black Eye Peas in the course of a half hour. That's just weird imo.

Here's a playlist for the local modern rock station in Boise. Is any of that music on the list any good? You tell me, because I ain't gonna bother looking at it, I know that at least 98% of it is shit, if not the whole thing.
Yep, gotta love modern rock.
I like Monster Magnet, but I'm not familiar with the new album.
I saw Three Day Grace and closed the window.
That's all I need to know.
I like Cage The Elephant's first CD, but their new album (which Shake Me Down is from) is complete shit.

I've given up long ago and radio and the North American music industry. I just go where I think I'll find something I like and go off similar styles until I find something I might enjoy.
Billy The Spikes - Spikey Billy
I do like just about anything, but for some reason the industry just has horrible taste in deciding what is worth marketing or not.
That's why SSPU is supporting Muse, instead of it being the other way around. And why it's not so easy to find great new stuff on the radio anymore.
Anyway, I'm listening to two Jews do poetic folk rock about girls and shit. I forget their names, though.

Have you ever heard Tripping Daisy? Before their guitarist died and they split off to do the Polyphonic Spree (whole other style of music and all), they were an excellent alternative rock band.
Their best album (Jesus Hits Like The Atom Bomb) came out the same year Limp Bizkit hit it big and the record company refused to advertise it because it wasn't angry enough.
I defy you to listen to Field Day Jitters and tell me any other song released in 1998 (especially on the radio) is anywhere near as good as that song.
Actually, here is the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV_ECQiwJBE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV_ECQiwJBE)

Here's the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfDvw3EriSM
Religion and sex are powerplays
Manipulate the people for the money they pay
Selling skin, selling God
The numbers look the same on their credit cards
Politicians say no to drugs
While we pay for wars in South America
Fighting fire with empty words
While the banks get fat
And the poor stay poor
And the rich get rich
And the cops get paid
To look away
As the one percent rules America
Fucking love this album.

Heard this song last night whilst getting drunk. Really awesome song, and one of the few that I actually like from Rush.
"Working Man" is pretty legit. Their first album is weak Zeppelin-wannabe hard rock, but that's a highlight from it.
Now I'm playing "Revolution Calling." Yep, another Mindcrime addiction.
Yeah, last night was a good night for classic rock. Also heard "Rock N Roll Fantasy" and "Holy Water" by Bad Company, reminding me just how much I love that band.
Speaking of classic rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFWljXt177Y)
If Extreme doesn't count, I'd like to consider Skid Row for my favorite hair metal band. I still play the first 3 albums occasionally.
Yes, I really do like this song, I've found that this and "I'll Remember You" make good driving songs for some reason. Every time J105 would play either of those songs I always cranked it and cruised.

Another "classic rock" song that doesn't get old to me. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLFF2P8fInI) Heard part of it while driving today, but the station wasn't coming in so I had to change.
That's their best song by far.
I don't know about their best myself ("Walking on the Moon" is sick ambience, "Roxanne" has very close ties to me, and there's a few lesser played songs that I enjoy a bit), but I always turn it up on the radio.
Anyway, more Buddy Holly.

Yeah, I remember that song, It's actually not a bad little dance song.

It's probably because I just read the book and watched the movie, but that reminds me of The Outsiders.
That's pretty fair. It reminds me of rock n' roll from the 50's and early 60's, which fits in for the book.
Great album. The Tim version of Can't Hardly Wait is excellent, too.
I can't believe that didn't make the album.

Not much of a YYY fan (to me, Karen O is a PJ Harvey wannabe with not even half the talent she has), but after my mom watched... something on TV, I had to wash my mind out with this.
One of the grooviest songs I've ever heard. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtK0rndkIpg)
Remember how I found you there
Alone in your electric chair
I told you dirty jokes until you smiled
You were lonely for a man
I said take me as I am
'Cause you might enjoy some madness for a while
Now think of all the years you tried to
Find someone to satisfy you
I might be as crazy as you say
If I'm crazy then it's true
That it's all because of you
And you wouldn't want me any other way
I love Billy Joel.

A Certain Ratio - Starlight
These guys are EXTREMELY underrated. I could listen to this song all damn day!
VERY disappointed with the new G. Love album. None of the tracks on it are bad... but it's not really the kind of music I like to listen to, either. Where's the funk? Where's the rock? Where's the hip-hop-lite? It's all acoustic blues stuff and dare I say some of it even sounds like country. Hardly a miss on any of his other albums, but this is one I just can't see myself buying.
Again, none of the songs on it are bad, but it's far from what I expected and what I, personally, enjoy.
That's lame, but artists need to experiment with their style every once in a while or otherwise they'll get flat. I'm not familiar with G. Love, so I don't know how far off this is for him, but if this album doesn't work, then he should look over his stuff and see what does and doesn't the next time he hits the studio.
Anyway, Atomic Rooster- "Decline and Fall"
They just played this song on one of my local digital subchannels, which plays music videos exclusively. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPuXvpkOLmM) Apparently they have some 80s at 8 o clock thing, I dunno. I love the 80s though, they were so terrible, and this song/video is proof of that.
Awesome. The 80's was camp, but fun camp. I'd take the pop music from then over the pop music of today anyday.
Now it's time for some Ramones. "Teenage Lobotomy" it is.
On the other hand, they played "Your Love" by The Outfield, which is an awesome song that I haven't heard in quite some time, so maybe not everything from the 80s was terrible.
In a punk mood currently. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqb4Af22d5s)

You guys like stuff like Cheap Trick, how about this one? I love this song, but it took me quite a while to identify what it was. I first heard it in the movie Detroit Rock City, where it plays for a brief few seconds among other songs that are much easier to ID, like "Frankenstein", "The Boys Are Back in Town", and "Radar Love".
Pretty cool. Reminds me of Red Kross (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-suoTLZkoQ) a bit more than Cheap Trick.
I love this style of music.
The Velvet Underground- "Venus in Furs"
One of the greatest things to ever be recorded. Not even joking. I love this album to death.

No you cant turn me round
And if a house gets in my way baby

I'm a Van Roth guy by heart, but I've always liked this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMV-fenGP1g). One of the few times their more sedative sound from this era really worked to a good song, and the video is classic.
I recently read a bit of Sammy's autobiography while skimming Rolling Stone, where he starts talking about his time with the band. Although Eddie pre-rehab sounds like a mess, I've been feeling like giving 5150 another chance sometime soon.

:joy:
Have you played the new EP yet? I've heard good things, but I'm way behind.
Anyway, got Through Silver in Blood spinning. Love me some Neurosis.
Naw, haven't got around to it yet. Mostly got "I Get Wet" stuck in my head and had to replay the album once again. The album's a real earworm.
Asakusa Jinta - Norusoru (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrhG1Rm_EGo)
I'd love to see these guys do an OP in an anime. Their less crazy stuff would fit right in something like Rurouni Kenshin.
Bad Brains- "Sacred Love"
Easily in the top 5 albums to get down to.
Currently listening to my third consecutive replay of Green Day's "Christie Road". It's really putting me in the mood to get back home.
Kerplunk really was a great album.
They are so far away from that now. Sad.
Some classy Steely Dan on a black gooved platter.
Got some Possessed on. This is so dated, but to say that it isn't a big part of the advancement of death metal would be lying, even if they were just heavier thrash. Stupid as shit thrash, but still.
Macklemore - Otherside (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWhx-CtPmBU)
Macklemore is SO underrated.
Finally got around to listening to the new Urge Overkill album. Breath of fresh air, and it felt good.
If you're a fan of alternative or classic rock n roll, give it a shot. It's easily their most accessible album by far.
Dave Matthews Band - Captain
Only two words to describe this song... dat bass.
Garbage - "Stupid Girl"
I love their debut album; easily one of my favorites from the 90's, and that really says something. Believe it or not, I was actually in the process of writing up an album talkback for it (before TZ went to... well, ya' know). Not sure if I'll ever get around to finishing it now or not; obviously, it won't be as detailed as Avaitor's talkbacks (he's a lot better at these than I am), but still, I'm kinda proud of what I've written so far.
If I ever do finish it, you guys mind if I post it here?
Go ahead, I enjoy reading these types of things.
Go for it.
Reminds me, I should probably write my next one soon, but my Oceanography class and getting the list out is my top priority now. After the latter's done and I feel a little more free with the former, I'll work on these some more.
Oh, and now I'm playing "Rays on Pinion" by Baroness.
Jack Johnson - Posters
His latest stuff is pretty terrible but his first three albums (PLUS the Curious George soundtrack) are all amazing.
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Visions of the Emerald Beyond. Classic fusion.
Bob Marley - One Love/People Get Ready
I've gotten some... er, looks... from some people when I say I listen to Mr. Marley's music, but I don't care. His stuff is so calming to me.
Demi Lovato- "Stop the World"
New single comes out in about 2 weeks from now, and I can't wait. Reminds me, I should make a thread about her on here...
Does anyone here like dubstep? And if so... why? I can't stand it. It sounds terrible (to me).
My friends are huge on it, and every Wednesday, we go to a club that plays just dubstep and house. I don't really dig it on its own, but I can dance to it better than top 40, so I tolerate it when I go.
One of my friends tried playing a Deadmau5 CD in its own last week though, and I got bored really fast. When you're just listening to that kind of stuff, it's boring as shit to hear.
Anyway, spinning some Kreator. Extreme Aggression is a thrash classic.
Yeah, I guess you could dance to it (though I'd prefer something else). However, a lot of people I know just listen to it on its own.
Maybe they do a lot of E or something. I dunno, you might like it more if you're on drugs.
I'm not up on most types of dance music, unfortunately. Dub is awesome, though.
Quote from: Desensitized on July 03, 2011, 05:12:19 PM
Dub is awesome, though.
Dub is a bit different from dubstep, though. Dub is excellent.
Currently listening to "Under Control" by Ben Lee & Tim Myers mainly because of the Chase Quick Deposit commercial. "Keep on, keeping on..." Found that catchy.
After that, I'll be listening to Fozzy!
Friend recommended I listen to Gogol Bordello. Good stuff, very fun music.

I do, can't exactly explain why I like though. The only thing I can say is that I'm a fan of bass and loves the drops in some songs. If anyone doesn't know, drops is when the bass kicks in.
AC/DC - "Have a Drink on Me"
100th post! I do believe celebration is in order. :happytime:
Well, since you offered... but skip the AC/DC. :sly:
Aura Noir- "Black Thrash Attack"
In the process of ripping a vinyl of Tangerine Dream's Phaedra.
Pearl Jam - "Who You Are"
MUNICIPAL WASTE IS GONNA FUCK YOU UP!
MUNICIPAL WASTE IS GONNA FUCK YOU UP!
MUNICIPAL WASTE IS GONNA FUCK YOU UP!
I don't even like MW as much as the other thrash revival acts, but that chorus is classic.
Digable Planets - Nickel Bags
Let me just say that they are probably the best Hip Hop group there ever was.
Glad you agree.
Too bad they lasted so briefly, though.
Justice - "Genesis"
Ellen McLain - Want You Gone
Is it weird that I've never played either of the Portal games, and yet I'm addicted to the songs?
If you like the soundtrack and humor, you'll most likely love the games. They fit each other pretty well.
Hot Head Bop/Treetop Tumble Mashup (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V57VwiEFvAY)
Beautiful.
A Tribe Called Quest - Verse From The Abstract
Talking Heads - "Cities"
Quote from: Avaitor on July 12, 2011, 04:30:21 PM
Glad you agree.

Butterfly has a new group, BTW - Shabazz Palaces. Check them out if you like Digable Planets.
Also, best rap group is between Wu-Tang Clan and Dilated Peoples for me, FWIW.
Hmm, I'll have to check them out.
Silversun Pickups- "Lazy Eye"
Easily in the top 5 bands from today, IMO.
Locksley - "The Whip"
I couldn't believe my ears when I actually heard this song in a car commercial not too long ago. I didn't think anyone even knew about this band.
The Jesus Lizard- "Gladiator"
Matchbox Twenty - "3AM"
The Replacements- "Kiss Me on the Bus"
Love that little surfer rock solo near the end. Really out of place, but awesome nonetheless. This album is really good with showing off the band's influence. Easily on my top 20 albums.
It's a hard album for me to listen to because it's just so depressing. Especially when you hear the Tim version of Can't Hardly Wait that was cut for some reason.
Oh yeah. I can't decide which version I like more, the demo or the PTMM version. Both work differently, but very well.
As for my overall favorite album, I will admit that I do slide between Tim and Let It Be a lot.
The Cranberries - "Analyse"
Wayne Brady - "F.W.B"
Forgot this man could sing. Great song, great album. Just didn't get the attention it deserved.
I've been on an early-60's rock instrumentals kick as of late, so I've been listening to a lot of Ventures, Tornados, and Shadows. Good stuff.

Awesome! I love it.
Action Plus is probably my favorite Ventures tune.
Record Club- "Need You Tonight"
I hate myself for liking this, but I do dig it a little. The song works with female vocals and doesn't lose much of its sex appeal in the process.
This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOMlCoeMB6E&feature=related)
...and I am once again reminded just how brilliant a show Spongebob used to be. Those first three seasons really are a treat.
Enrique Iglesias- "Hero"
This song is a legend among my friends. One person turned it, for unknown reasons, into a meme. Just like I did with condoms, the phrase "no offense", and the existence of fedoras.
Eagle Eye Cherry - "Conversation"
The Go! Team - Apollo Throwdown
Hall & Oates- "Gino (The Manager"
Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear
Pearl Jam - "Spin the Black Circle"
Electric Wizard- "Funeralopolis"
Love this album. Never gets old.
Paramore - "Crushcrushcrush"
The Four Seasons - "Dawn (Go Away)"
Jefferson Airplane - "Wooden Ships"
That might be my favorite song by them.
Tortoise- "Along the Banks of the Rivers"
Silverchair - "Tomorrow"
Gorillaz - "Rhinestone Eyes"
Discovered this from Fifa 11's soundtrack. Sounds very different from the game version also.
Bob Dylan- "Maggie's Farm"
LCD Soundsystem - "I Can Change"
The Bob Seger System - "2 + 2 = ?"
Listening to Hidden Beach's Flashing Lights Unwrapped.
Shinedown - "I Dare You"
Weezer - Tragic Girl
Megadeth- "Good Mourning/Black Friday"
Started looking at that massive deluxe edition release of the album. Way too rich for my blood, and it kind of looks like a sham. I'll stick with my own version of the album.
Dexys Midnight Runners - "Come On Eileen"
Flying Lotus - "My Chippy"
Jorma Kaukonen - "Blue Railroad Train"
Atheist- "The Formative Years"
Frank Nitt - "Go Girl"

Cee Lo Green - "Bright Lights Bigger City"
This. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaqDiiBRMl0&feature=related)
Serious badass sound. Love this album.
Simple Kid - "Lil' King Kong"
Porcupine Tree- "Footprints"
This demo EP is glorious. Hard as fuck to find, though.
The Pogues - "If I Should Fall from Grace with God"
Let them goooooooooooooooooooo boys, let them goooooooooooooooooooo boys... yeah, I love this song.
One of my favorite covers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnmNHGVC1co&feature=related)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor- "Moya"
The Bob Seger System - "Lucifer"
The Tornados - Ridin' The Wind
Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians - "Ghost of a Dog"
The Crystals -Doo Doo Ron Ron
"It's On" from Camp Rock 2.
I love how Nick and Kevin get outshined during their solos by their competing drummer and guitarist. Hilarious.
Jefferson Airplane - "Third Week in the Chelsea"
Incubus - "Wish You Were Here"
"Dementia" - Manilla Road.
Del Shannon - "Hats Off To Larry"
That Handsome Devil - Karmakaze (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODtJ6io5Edg)
Thought it was okay the first few times I heard it, but now I can't stop listening to it; so interesting and kind of entrancing.
Some dream of the ocean, but we all die on the rocks...
Saint Etienne- "Mario's Cafe"
Reverend Bizarre - "Doomsower"
A mid-paced RB song of manageable length? Impossible!
Genesis - "Dance on a Volcano"
Screw Gabriel!
Red Snapper- "Seeing Red"
"Plasma Birds" - Merzbow
The Doors- "Touch Me"
Easily the best song on The Soft Parade. Also easily the most successful song from it. But it really does capture the entire essence of the band in one composition.
Soft Parade is kind of a disaster isn't it? At times it sounds like Jim has somehow wandered into a Gary Puckett recording session with all those silly horn and string arrangements.
I like the concept of the album, but in execution... it just doesn't work.
It's considered the weakest Morrison-era album for a reason.
"Solar Song" - Alcest
Titles in English? IMPOSSIBLE! However, it's as perfect as the album it comes from.
That might just be my favorite from the album.
Smashing Pumpkins- "Rhinoceros"
^That's one of the SP songs I really like.
Eddie & The Hot Rods - Get Across To You
Mobile - "Montreal Calling"
King Crimson - "Frame By Frame" (second best track on probably their best album).
"Skyscraper", yet again...
"Marityme" - Portal
Grateful Dead - "Tennessee Jed"
INXS - "New Sensation"
^ 8)
Aerosmith- "Janie's Got a Gun"
Phil Lynott - "Yellow Pearl"
Missing Persons - "Destination Unknown"
Possibly their best song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ1sTL_TYUM)
Foreigner - "Juke Box Hero"
"Radioactive Man" - Subvision
I'm in love with the voice of Tobias Forge.
David Bowie- "Sound and Vision"
God, I love the Berlin trilogy. Some of the greatest rock ever recorded.
Blue Oyster Cult - "Godzilla"
Tangerine Dream - "Cherokee Lane"
Mother Tongue - Sheila's Song
I LOVE this track. So fucking great. :worship:
Foreigner - "Long, Long Way From Home"
Steppenwolf - "Don't Step on the Grass, Sam"
Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Magic Johnson"

Really underrated song. Love it.
Dire Straits - "Down to the Waterline"
Billy Joel- "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant"
Basil Pouldouris - "Orphans of Doom/The Beginning"
Fleshgod Apocalypse - "The Violation"
It's one of the few bands my brother and I agree on. Glad to see he has taste.
Van Morrison - "Blue Money"
Black Sabbath- "Zero the Hero"
I don't get the newfound love for this album. Gillian tries too hard, and Iommi really wasn't made for extra heavy riffs. It's just crap.
Been in a Tchaikovsky mood, so here's Swan Lake.
The Black Crowes - "Twice as Hard"
Black Sabbath- "Megalomania"
Now there we go. My favorite Ozzy album.
"Lavender Girl" - Jarboe
I heard her work with Cobalt and just had to check her solo stuff out. It's certainly interesting.
Iron Maiden- "Killers"
And it's times like these where Paul's strengths are obvious. That is, until... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCz0NNYU8fk)
"Sanction Extremis" - Anaal Nathrakh
Days of the New - "Touch, Peel and Stand"
Taking a Demi break as I work on my next project. "Skyscraper" is wrapping up, and I have "Everything You're Not" up next to play.
Alanis Morissette - "Ironic"
Your VMA post reminded me of it once again, so... yeah. I don't care what anyone says, I love this song. "It's like raaaaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnnn..." :happytime:
"Ethereal Conjuration" - Coffin Texts
The Rolling Stones - "Gimme Shelter"
Gorod- "Here Die Your Gods"
Harmony Korine - "Three Little Devils"
Eagle Twin- "10,000 Birds of Black Hot Fire"
Def Leppard - "Pour Some Sugar on Me"
Oh yes... I went there.
Uriah Heep- "Easy Livin'"
Listening to new Opeth now, and took a break so I could play this song, since I've been feeling this Heep track in particular while listening. I'll do some more pauses for Rainbow and Deep Purple later on as well.
As for Opeth, I'll talk about this album in another thread when I'm done.
Counting Crows - "Mr. Jones"
Peste Noire- "Cochon Carotte et les sœurs Crotte"
So far on their new album, I'm hearing traces of polka, German house, and dubstep. Man, this band is going weird places without Neige.
Our Lady Peace - "Automatic Flowers"
God, this band used to be so great. What the fuck happened, man? Comparing their new stuff to this makes me one saaaaaaaaaad panda.
Bob Dylan- "Girl From the North Country"
Rush - "Cold Fire"
Beck - "Tropicalia"
Slough Feigh- "Warrior's Dawn"
Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Down on the Corner"
Blue Oyster Cult- "Subhuman"
Their best album.
One of my most favorite songs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUHPFgwn9d0&feature=related)
Reagan Youth- "USA"
Live - "I Alone"
The Cult- "King Contrary Man"
I'm still kicking myself for missing a show they did only two minutes away from me last year. If only I didn't have family over at the time.
Jet - "Rollover D.J."
Eagle Twin- "10,000 Birds of Black Hot Fire"
I love how like every song in this album has a bird reference in the title. And it's all so epic.
Also, more to love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I0kwx6hujA).
Alanis Morissette - "Not the Doctor"
Voivod- "Missing Sequences"
Run DMC - Jam Master Jay
I could listen to these guys all day.
The Rolling Stones- "It's Only Rock n' Roll (But I Like It)"
Taking a break from playing Heritage on repeat for some Stones.
Run DMC - Roots, Rap, Reggae
Judas Priest- "Victim of Changes"
Playing Sad Wings now, being Akerfeldt's favorite album and main source of inspiration. If Painkiller didn't exist, this would easily be their best.
Wax Tailor - Sometimes
Really groovy stuff. I love you, Last.fm radio! :swoon:
Possessed- "Death Metal"
It gets better.
Run DMC - Ragtime
Tougher Than Leather is also awesome. I don't really care for any of their stuff after this album, though. They were sucked into the gangsta thing, and I just don't like that stuff at all.
Sons & Daughters - "Gilt Complex"
Frank Zappa- "City of Tiny Lites"
Black Country Communion- "Medusa"
This is Glenn Hughes and Jason Bonham's supergroup, and it's not that bad. Pretty good, actually. Definitely better than Chickenfoot, at least. And yes, this is a Trapeze cover.
Styx - "Renegade"
Not really a huge Styx fan tbh, but I've always had a soft spot for this song.
Anthrax- "Imitation of Life"
Phantom Planet - "Do the Panic"
Demi Lovato- "Who's That Boy"
Two random notes about this one.
1- I love when Demi says "Damn, he's fine". Makes me lul.
2- I think Dev needs a sex-ed lesson or two. "He's the pie to my cherry", really?
R.E.M. - "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"
Apparently, it's the end of the band as we know it as well. Hard to believe they've called it a day, after all these years.
I know. They were one of my gateways to alternative, so I'm really saddened to lose them. I'm going to play Collapse Into Now later today, their last, which apparently was really good.
I'm surprised as well. I expected them to just go one forever or as long as they could.
999 - Boiler
Biggest Prize In Sport is one of my favorite albums.
Same. But yeah, Collapse Into Now works strangely well as a swan song. Really worth checking out for fans.
More Demi now. This time, "Lightweight".
A terrific recording from 1958 of Respighi's "Ancient Airs and Dances for Lute"
R.E.M.- "Try Not to Breathe"
I shouldn't be listening to these guys right now, though. I heard "Man on the Moon" at Best Buy, and nearly choked up.
Boston - Peace Of Mind
The best song on their debut. Yes, it's better than that song. ;)
Yeah, I think that might just be my favorite, too.
Monster Magnet - "Space Lord"
Does an unedited version of this song actually exist? Seems kinda odd that one wouldn't.
God, I fucking adore "Love in an Elevator". Most of Aerosmith's work past the first four albums does nothing for me, but this is good enough to fit into Toys or Rocks.
"Patience" by Guns N' Roses. One of the few songs of theirs I think is legitimately good. It's funny, the other day some GNR song came on the radio(think it was Live and Let Die but I can't be sure) and I changed the station as soon as I recognized it, but this time I actually turned up the radio.
Fishbone- "Everyday Sunshine"
Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest For The Wicked.

Terrible. I love Lou Reed, but his style doesn't mix with Metallica (and I already hate them...)
They Might Be Giants - Celebration
I could do without the vocoder in this song... but meh, I love any song that calls out Anonymous. Also, Marty Beller fucking rocks the drums.
You see, I think the actual concept for the album is pretty interesting. And who knows, maybe if Lou chose a metal band that's actually talented to back him up, like, say, High on Fire, it would sound a lot better. But the two do not mesh at all, and Metallica blow chunks.
And instead of listening to a song, I'm watching Todd's new review. (http://blip.tv/todds-pop-song-reviews/if-i-die-young-a-pop-song-review-by-toddintheshadows-5587633) My sister has had this in constant play on her iPod since it hit the country charts, but I never really thought one way or the other about it. Decent enough review so far.
"Would" by Alice In Chains. Awesome song? Awesome song.
And nobody gives a shit about Metallica anymore. One of the most irrelevant bands still in existance.
Speaking of Metallica; believe it or not, I actually heard "St. Anger" on the radio today. And I laughed, and I laughed, and I laughed.
...anyway, right now I'm currently spinning this beautiful piece of music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCJXvrM0PG8), perfectly fitting for late-night ambiance. I've already declared my love for this song in the VG music thread, so I'll keep my gushing in line here... but man, it's just great. Best track in the game, IMO.
Cop Shoot Cop- "$10 Bill"
Just what kind of fun would you have at 7-11, anyway?
The Velvet Underground - "Run Run Run"
Paradise Lost- "Rapture"
Pearl Jam - "Alive"
So I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but I'll say it again just because; this is my favorite Pearl Jam song ever. The kickass guitar solo towards the end is too great for words.
Blues Traveler - The Mountains Win Again
As much as I disagree with their political views, what a damn excellent band and song. John Popper is the best harmonica player I've ever heard.
Toxic Holocaust- "Agony of the Damned"
This album has tons of replay value. Love it.
ELO - "Confusion"
!T.O.O.H.!- "Konec KontinentálnÃho Kontejneru"
"Helena Beat" by Foster The People. Getting into these guys, they remind me of MGMT, which is cool because I like MGMT.
KISS- "Tomorrow and Tonight"
Alive II's a damn fine live album.
The greatest tv theme ever... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfKF-36vjvg&feature=feedu)
Rush - "The Spirit of Radio"
Been stuck in my head the past couple of days after hearing it again. I had actually forgotten how much I like this song.
DoMaJe - "Way Down In The Hole"
Pixies - "Velouria"
Crowded House - "Don't Dream its Over"
The Pretenders - Kid
One of my favorite songs.
Root, "Kargeras"
I have to get excited for the new album somehow.
Tears for Fears - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" GREATEST SONG EVER WRITTEN.
"Cleveland Rocks" by PUSA. Aka the theme for The Drew Carey Show.
The Smiths- "There is a Light That Never Goes Out"
Probably not the best song to play right now, but eh.
Now "Panic"'s on. That's even worse. :(
Foghat - "Terraplane Blues"

Jack Johnson - Do You Remember
Love me some Jack, especially now as I've kicked my longest depressed period ever. Yea-uh!
Sonic Youth- "What We Know"
Toadies - "Away"
More PUSA. This time a quaint little song titled "Fuck California".
Gyorgy Ligeti - "Ramifications"
Primus- "Those Damn Blue-Collar Tweekers"
"When Doves Cry" by Patti Smith.
A cover of the Prince song, of course. And a really good one I must add.
This little gem. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7bAuzNTIBs)
Fucking love it.
Alice in Chains - "Rooster"
Weezer- "Dope Nose"
Still my fav Weezer album, Maladroit is.
Electric Six - Interchangeable Knife
New album is fucking awesome.
LMFAO- "Sexy and I Know It"
So yeah, watching this video for the first time. My reaction? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27UvJrsf9Zc)
Blut Aus Nord - "Epitome VIII"

No one listening to anything good?
"409 In Your Coffeemaker" by Green Day.
Decided to play some older Demi with "Everything You're Not", and for a change, switching that up with some Funkadelic, "Can You Get to That" in particular.
AC/DC- "Night of the Long Knives"
So I haven't played this album in ages, but I can't help but notice how much this song sounds like "Dr. Feelgood". Or how much "Dr. Feelgood" sounds like it. I dunno, but it seems a little fishy.
No one's been listening to anything lately? Huh.
Okay, I hear Usher's "OMG" on the TV right now. Anyone have anything to say about that song or the man in general?
Autograph - "Turn Up the Radio"
Another 80's one-hit wonder. It's all good, though.

Funkadelic- "Vital Juices"
Billy Squier - "The Stroke"
...aka "that song from Billy Madison", as people seem to know it.
Subvision - "Room 611"
I've been binging on Tobias Forge projects tonight.
GWAR- "Bring Back the Bomb"
Figured it was appropriate. RIP Flattus Maximus
Beautiful. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6dqfl05RvU)
Screaming Trees - "Nearly Lost You"
"Storytime" - Nightwish
Great song. Worth four years of waiting for new material.
Bear McCreary - Passacaglia
Gwen Stefani- "What you Waiting For?"
This is like the only solo Stefani song I really like. If more of her songs sounded like this, I would be a bigger supporter of it.
Franz Ferdinand - "Do You Want To"
Blut Aus Nord - "Epitome VIII"
<3
...this. Goddamnit Mike Judge. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aktLRiWXfqg)
Beyond Creation- "Omnipresent Perception"
DAT BASS
Like, wow. This is incredible.
Yaz - "Situation"
I cannot resist.
Talking Heads-"Take Me To The River".
Woo, new THD song! (http://www.mediafire.com/?mbogeofwjjh77z4)
The Stone Foxes - "I'm a King Bee"
aka, that song from that Jack Daniels commercial. You know the one.
The Rolling Stones- "It's Only Rock n' Roll (But I Like It)"
For another unpopular opinion, Ronnie>Keith.
"You Might Think" by Weezer. OMG, a cover of a song by The Cars, as heard in the movie Cars! The second one that is.
Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone
Demi Lovato- "My Love's Like a Star"
Sounds so good live. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4B9xXXi6Ag8)
Jeff Beck - "Blast from the East"
Nujabes- "Peaceland"
Man, this is bliss. RIP
Semisonic - "Chemistry"
Neurosis- "Bridge"
The Velvet Underground - "Venus in Furs"
"Shiiiiiiiiiiny shiiiiiiiiiiiiiny boots of leeeeeeeeeeather". God damn, this song is so fucking awesome. I mean, how could you NOT love these lyrics?
"Seventy Times 7" by Brand New.
Lonely Island- "Punch You in the Jeans"
Oh MAN, I fuggen dig this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rRI95ltVqA)
This one too. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viHhbYIRuIk&feature=related)
Modest Mouse - "Float On"
"Never Talking to You Again" by Husker Du just came up in my shuffle. Wow, I haven't listened to this band in so long, I think a marathon is in order, at least of New Day Rising and Zen Arcade.
"Outlander" - Outlander
Tarja Turunen being in a post-Nightwish project that doesn't bore me to death? Say it ain't so! Lovely song.
Nirvana - "Pennyroyal Tea"
Well here's something; a Nirvana song that I actually like. Better than most of their stuff, anyway.
Alcest - "Autre Temps"
New Alcest! I feel that Neige just keeps improving on himself. This makes me happy.
Summoning- "Nightshade Forests"
Nightwish - "Scaretale"
Pretty much their most brutal and weird piece ever, and yes, I'm definitely listening to Nightwish here. Not bad.
Maruta- "Behind the Steel Curtain"
Shit, this rules.
J. Geils Band - "Centerfold"
Plutonic & G. Love - Johnny Black (http://plutonicglove.bandcamp.com/track/johnny-black)
Goddamn, this guy makes some of the best music for chilling out.
Death - "Secret Face"
10 YEARS WITHOUT CHUCK NOOOOOOOOOO-
Yeah, I'll set up a playlist later today full of Death and Control Denied.
Still can't believe it's been so long without him.
"I Need to Know" by Tom Petty and those Heartbreakers of his.
Pearl Jam - "All Those Yesterdays"
Speaking of Clapton (in another thread, but I digress), figured this is worth sharing. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJp7vNP8vNQ&feature=related)
"Welcome to the Terrordome" by Public Enemy.
Satellite Radio is so much better than terrestrial radio.
Silversun Pickups- "Seasick"
A-side to the EP they pulled out on Black Friday which contains leftovers from the last album to prep us up for the new album. Sounds really good so far.
"And how much did you pay for your rock 'n' roll T-shirt, that proves you were there, that you heard of them first?"
"Rock N Roll Lifestyle" by Cake.
"Sunday Morning" by No Doubt.
I lied in the other thread.
This is my #2 choice for single of the year. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI6CfKcMhjY&feature=relmfu) Seriously, these guys are geniuses.
The Lonely Island can always brighten up my day.
And meanwhile in Finland... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JjMBsh8x_g)
Beastie Boys - "Sure Shot"
My eyes have gazed upon things
You couldn't imagine
Neon storms on the airstrips at Sales Marsh
I saw hope in King Gomez Cape of eyes
Before the Ten Year Fog
Alas these things will disappear
Like shifting sands in an ocean's bed
Time to die
Time to die
Goddamn, absolutely chilling vocals and beautiful music. I love The Stranglers so much.
http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/6GguP2/soundcloud.com/anthonydc/5-seconds-of-every-1-billboard
Warning, pop music overload. It's kind of interesting though, just how much the quality fluctuates.
EDIT: Here's a Modern Rock one for comparison. Love all the college rock at the beginning of it, then by the time Nirvana's In Utero tracks appear it starts going downhill.
http://soundcloud.com/anthonydc/5-seconds-of-every-1-song
One of the greatest songs ever recorded. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PBH5ez-Znw)
Oh my god. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iypQvX49M8k) This track and The Grave And The Constant... some of the best music I've ever heard.
R.E.M.- "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"
Have you ever had one of those moments where you're just out driving, and out of nowhere, one of your favorite songs starts playing on the radio, one you haven't heard on there in a while?
Happened to me last night with this song. I love little moments like that.
The Beach Boys - I Get Around
For such a simple song, this little pop ditty is masterfully written. It's a shame the Beach Boys seem to be falling to the side a lot these days, I'd rather listen to them than most 60s artists. Even the Beatles.
I'm sure that if the band can pull off their first performance together for their reunion tour, they'll become back en vogue before long.
I agree with you, too.
Verve Pipe - "The Freshman"
I was surprised to hear the original acoustic version of this, released some four odd years before the actual single, on the radio yesterday. And hey, it's pretty good too.
Don Henley- "New York Minute". Easily my favorite Henley song.
ELO - "Don't Bring Me Down"
Demi Lovato- "For the Love of a Daughter"
Still gives me chills.
Portal - "Larvae"
Deep Purple- "Pictures of Home"
Today feels like a Machine Head spinning night.
Blut Aus Nord - "II"
I'm just going to listen to their entire discography like the fangirl I am.
T'Pau - "Heart and Soul"
"Give a little bit of heart and soul, give a little bit of love to groooooooooowwwwwwwwww"... yep, this is officially stuck in my head. No going back now.
Was doing a play through of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, but I put it on pause and listened to VH's new single "Tattoo". It's alright I guess, Dave's voice doesn't have the impact it once had, but it has been like 28 years since 1984, so I guess it's understandable. Probably going to need a few more plays before I can really judge it.
In the meantime though back to the Pumpkins.
King Crimson- "I Talk to the Wind"
As for "Tattoo", meh, I miss Michael Anthony. The band's really not the same without his harmonies.
R.E.M. - "Orange Crush"
Playing through Dookie now. I guess I'm in a 90's mood right now, idk.

The song's getting some airplay on the radio here. I think my biggest problem with it is that it's just a stupid song. He's singing about tattoos for shit's sake. Musically, the song isn't bad, but lyrically it isn't good.
The Big Bopper - White Lightnin'
It's always hard listening to his stuff (much like Ritchie Valens or Buddy Holly) without feeling saddened at the lost potential. It doesn't change the fact that it's genius music, though.
Jimi Hendrix- "Are You Experienced?"
Tarot - "Blood Runs Cold"
Garbage- "When I Grow Up".
Chuck Berry - Havana Moon
"Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" by (good)Van Halen. Still not really sold on the new stuff.
Led Zeppelin- "In the Light"
John Fogerty - The Old Man Down The Road
Peter Frampton- "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
Still one of the greatest live albums ever recorded.
Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)
Blink 182 - "Feeling This"
Oasis - "All Around the World"
Scorpions- "Can't Get Enough, Part 2" From World Wide Live
I'm in kind of a live album mood as of late, as you can see.
No Doubt- Hella Good(Spiderwebs was playing earlier when I was at the gas station).
Tragic Kingdom is forever awesome, but I still do like the later stuff too.
Death- "The Philosopher" (remix)
I'm hit or miss with the new remixes on their stuff, but this song turned out very well. Still has all of its power.
Spooky Mormon Hell Dream- From the Book of Mormon. I just find it funny that I'm hearing the dub voice for Harley from Pok?mon singing a song about hell for Mormons. That and him saying that he's worse than Hitler, Ghengis Khan, Jeffery Dahmer & Johnny Cochran due to leaving his mission companion behind.
Man, I just love Broadway songs. I really need to expand my love of this medium and experience other kinds of musical.
Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone
Yep, I'm listening to Parallel Lines.
Parov Stelar - Kiss Me Twice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37saGxpVi74)
Damn, all of this guy's music is phenomenal. Even his earlier House tracks. Coco is the greatest double album I've ever heard.
Stray Cats - Crawl Up & Die
Man, those first three albums need reissues with remasters. Such great rock n roll.
So fucking catchy. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E6Bpoetzgs)

Respect.

Ha, I didn't know anyone outside of Canadians ever heard of them.
Streaming Demi's show in Chile, and she's pulling out a medley of "Get Back", "Here We Go Again" and "La La Land". Her band can still make her old hits sound fresh, and she's nailing it.

Ha, I didn't know anyone outside of Canadians ever heard of them.
Well, many moons ago I used to live in Michigan, and the radio stations there played quite a number of Canadian bands. So I'm pretty familiar with them (more than most, I'm sure).
Alice Cooper- "Snakebite"
The Flys - "Got You (Where I Want You)"
Another one-hit wonder from the 90's, and one that's probably known more for Katie Holmes than their actual music. Decent enough, though.
Jon McLaughlin- "So Close"
From Enchanted. It's a pretty solid song, although I can't help but wonder how it'd sound if the Jon McLaughlin of Mahavishnu Orchestra/Miles Davis fame performed it in the movie.
Steve Miller Band - "Abracadabra"
Whitney Houston apparently just died, so I guess I'll listen to a few songs of hers.
Yeah, it's pretty sad news. Only 48 too.
I was at KFC getting dinner when I got the CNN news alert on my phone too. I'm not racist or anything, I just thought it was a super strange occurrence, given the company I was in.
Yeah, I'm playing some of her stuff, too. She was never a big favorite, but she definitely had a great voice.
Pearl Jam - "Light Years"
Fun Lovin' Criminals - Back On The Block
Such a fun, chill song. Love it.
I dunno if I've said this before, but I'm in love with this girl. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6wUPCqwWI8)
Stray Cats - Lucky Charm
Black Sabbath- "Sweet Leaf"
And today is a day where I'll say that Sabbath is my second favorite.

Child is Father to the Man. One of the greatest and most under-appreciated debut albums of all time.
This. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LynZnUI91Pw)
Well that wholly mediocre. Just like the rest of Mick's solo career.
The Moody Blues - "Question"
Diamond Head- "Sucking My Love"
Every thrash band to ever form has stolen from this album, yet it still feels fresher than the vast majority of its imitators.
Bush - "The Chemicals Between Us"
For Davy Jones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSpWxtS4sG8)
And yes, they played all the instruments on that great album.
Galactic - Out In The Street
Not too impressed by the new album to be honest, but this song is absolutely wonderful.
Huey Lewis and the News- "The Power of Love"
Have I mentioned that I consider this to be the best song ever written for a film?
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Call Me The Breeze
I think I like this better than Freebird. Must be the tempo.
I agree with you. I'll give it a listen every once in a while, but there's many songs(Workin' For the MCA, Don't Ask Me No Questions, Saturday Night Special, You Got That Right) that I prefer to it. It's like Stairway, it's a good song, but I'd rather listen to other Zep songs before it.
Was always more of a Tuesday's Gone kind of guy anyway.
Pronounced is brilliant, but Second Helping is almost as awesome. Every song on each is just so great, and while I give the edge to Pronounced, I think Second Helping has the better closer.
I wouldn't call Freebird overrated or anything but on a casual listening basis it just isn't as punchy as Call Me The Breeze.
Spinning Montrose's first album in tribute to Ronnie. It's pretty close to perfect for what it is.
New York Dolls - Lookin' For A Kiss
"If there's one reason I'm telling you this,
I feel bad, bad bad...
I'm lookin' for a kiss."
*cue awesome riff*
Every time I hear this song it seems like there's a lot more to the lyrics than we are lead to believe. the imagery, the narrator's reactions, how the song is the only one in their catalog dead centered on the lyrics... it seems like a reminder that there is more to life than excess and that the narrator even knows this but mistakes what he's really looking for. If you really read his words and the way he wrote them. Of course this could be over-analyzation of lyrics, but its their only song like this (focused more on the lyrics and energy than anything else in the music) even the first spoken line he specifically says "Luv" and not "Love"... Call me crazy, but that's just how it comes off to me.
Taking Back Sunday's cover of Descendents' "Suburban Home/I Like Food". Been playing quite a bit of the Tony Hawk games recently, and this one was in American Wasteland, which I actually like.
The Replacements - IOU
I don't know when "Pleased To Meet Me" went from being one of their best albums to being on the same level as "Don't Tell A Soul", but haters are crazy. This album is almost on par with "Tim" and "Let It Be".
The Who- "Baba O'Riley"
Who's Next is such a good album to pull out for inspiration. Quadrophenia too, for that matter.
Depeche Mode - "Personal Jesus"
Iron Maiden- "Killers".
(https://animationrevelation.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fnohomers.net%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Fheadbang.gif&hash=e715ae34a0e12c111b66471ee9b6946eddcd08d8)
"Who Do You Want To Be?"- Oingo Boingo. More Tony Hawk goodness.
I'm listening to "...Baby One More Time".
/cue Kenan Rockmore in 3... 2...
baby one more time? like, ironically?
idk, I'm in a nostalgic mood tonight. Now I have "Believe" by Cher on.
wow. i feel like im in my moms old dodge spirit listening to k106, on the way to albertsons.
Stray Cats - Lonely Summer Nights
blink-182- "All the Small Things"
I don't care for the band as a whole, but I'd be lying if I said that I didn't like the song way back when.

Hey, I still think What's My Age Again? is a good pop song regardless. The band was generally pretty boring when it came to songwriting, but they had a few good ones like that.
Sounds killer.
Ricky Martin- "Livin' La Vida Loca"
I can never listen to this song anymore without remembering the ending to Shrek 2.
as you no i love blink but im not really a fan of enema or take off your pants and jacket anymore. their self titled is the bomb diggity though.
but honestly it sounds like your listening to one of thos now cds.
We still have a couple of those. Maybe I should pull that out lol
Now I''ll spin "Wild Wild West". The second best thing to come out of that movie. The first being Kevin Smith's story about Jon Peters.
now thats what i call music 8 was my favorite... when i was in 8th grade.
rock n roll hootchie coo come on baby light my fuse light my fuse.
Crazy Town- "Butterfly"
I forgot that this sampled RHCP, lol
fun fact: he was the guitarist for many wierd al songs in the 80s.
Other fun fact: Ted Mosby gave Big Al the idea for "Like a Surgeon"
wanna watch dazed and confused now.
no not the led zeppelin song.
mmm, that sounds good.
Got "The Bad Touch" now. My friend and I nearly sang a duet of this on an American Idol spoof for the school news back in senior year. Our TV prod teacher/technical adviser wouldn't let us though, but said that "Walk This Way" was fine for us to do. lol
nobody gonna take my car im gonna race it to the ground nobody gonna beat my car im gonna beat the speed of sound.

T. Rex - Left Hand Luke & The Beggar Boys
Electric Warrior
Tanx
Slider
T.Rex
everything else
Back to my nostalgia kick.
Barenaked Ladies- "One Week"
This is another song that will forever link me back to HIMYM now.
Really? It makes me think of American Pie.
I saw the ad for the new one on TV recently. smh.
The Stooges- "Search and Destroy"
Is it bad that I prefer the remix Iggy did with Bruce Bruce of Raw Power to Bowie's original? It sounds far louder and rawer than that.
Sheryl Crow - "A Change Would Do You Good"
Guilty pleasure, what can I say.
"I'll Stick Around" by the Foo Fighters. Been having a bit of a boner for them recently. Except for their current songs on the radio, I change the station every time I hear one of them. How did this band get so annoying?
I'm starting to think their first 3 albums were flukes. Especially after Grohl himself said he doesn't know why everyone loves TC&TS so much. Come on, that's obvious, isn't it?
Beach Boys - Sail On, Sailor
Autopsy- "Spill My Blood"
Easily one of the best from last year. This is how you do good death metal.
Colin Davis' 1966 recording of Handel's Messiah on vinyl
Slayer- "Epidemic"
Candlebox - "You"
Sly and the Family Stone- "I Want to Take You Higher"
Flamin' Groovies - Have You Seen My Baby?
Best Randy Newman cover ever? Probably. :D
Barenaked Ladies - "Another Postcard"
Haha, haven't heard this one in ages until now. Still pretty catchy, I'll admit.
I haven't actually listened to them since Steven Page left, and have no real intention to.
But I like all their pre-Separation stuff.

Oh, I know. I like Another Postcard, but Everything To Everyone was kind of a letdown album.
The last thing they did with Page was a two album set called "Barenaked Ladies Are Me/Barenaked Ladies Are Men" one slower and the other more focused on rock. It has their best material since Maroon on it, but after that there stuff just doesn't sit right with me.
Rwake- "Levicitus"
I loves me some sludge.
Alcohol Jazz - Dha, Gue, Dhi, Nah (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25m7UYMdUZc)
Love this group! Some parts of this song sound kind of like Sonic music, haha. ;D
Saint Vitus- "White Magic/Black Magic"
Weezer - "Beverly Hills"
Burzum- "A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit"
Listening to the first album now. Still as raw as ever.
Electric Six - Immolate Me
The lyrics are so hilarious. Excellent parody of "deep" rock songs about love.
QuoteJapanese, Chinese, it's all the same
I can't tell Corey Feldman from Corey Haim
I'm dying in the dark
Come illuminate me in love

You're burning me up

I'm doing fine, don't worry about me

Brilliant.
King Diamond- "Arrival"
18 isssss 9!!!!!!!!! Long live the King.
Spacehog - Cruel To Be Kind
I found the album for $0.01 on Amazon and grabbed it. It's actually a bit hard to swallow that this came out in 1995 and was actually a hit album. Sure, In The Meantime is brilliant and one of the best singles of the decade, but the lyrics in general are just so much more positive and uplifting than any of the stuff coming out around that time. The rest of the album doesn't quite reach the brilliance of that song, but it's all really good stuff and was more than worth the price. I really dig the sound, like if Marc Bolan started an alt rock band in the early 90s.
Still there is a part of me that wishes the rest of the album was on par with that song, even if the rest of it is still great stuff.
I'm glad that you enjoy it, at least for the most part.
Angel Witch- "Dead Sea Scrolls"
Not bad. Not on par with their classic eponymous debut, but in terms of new work from mid-first tier/upper-second tier NWOBHM bands, it's pretty solid.
Maybe I sound more down on it then I meant, I actually really like it as a whole. Just that In The Meantime is clearly the best track on it.
I'm kind of surprised the album even came out, seeing as it wasn't a mopey sleeping pill like most mainstream rock at the time. In fact, it's pretty upbeat.
Spacehog - Spacehog
Oh, I do agree with you there. "In the Meantime" is such a classic.
Magrudergrind- "Bridge Burner"
The Donnas - "Take It Off"

Yeah, Spacehog is pretty cool. Had no idea you guys actually liked them; thought I was the only here that did.
If you get a chance, pick up their final two albums if you can (aka the ones that nobody payed any attention to). The Hogyssey in particular is pretty good, IMO. I don't know how these flew under the radar as much as they did (guess this isn't the style of music people wanted in the late 90's), but they're both worth a listen anyway.
John Fogerty- " Centerfield".
Getting me pumped up for summer!
Jeff Beck - "What Mama Said"
Damn.
Blue Cheer- "Peace of Mind"
This is what you call a classic.
Don Henley - "The Boys of Summer"
Call it "getting into the spirit of things", although with the weather we're having around here lately, you'd think we're closer to Christmas than we are to summer.
Spacehog - Starside
I really like the first half of the album better than the second It starts to drag by the halfway point for the most part. Though the lyrics to Space Is The Place are kind of... out of place with everything else on the album. Sort of like if the last Blink 182 album had a song on it like one of their joke songs mid-album. So jarring.

Imagine that playing after I Miss You.
But there wasn't anything like that on blink's last two albums(remember they just released an album last September). They really only do those types of songs live now, and only because of fan service.
That song is an atrocity by the way. Most of their material from the Take off Your Pants and Jacket era is. Easily the worst blink album.

I know it wasn't on an album, I said that a song like it would have been out of place on the last album since it's totally out of sync with everything on it. Same with that Spacehog song. The only difference is that Space Is The Place was not only on the album, but it was a single.

I'm not a big fan of their joke songs, never was. I was disappointed they didn't just rerecord old songs like Toast & Bananas and give them a better production instead. But then again, they were pretty disappointing at that time.
Course of Nature - "Caught in the Sun"
High on Fire- "Bloody Knuckles"
Two songs in, and I'm loving it. Matt Pike can do no wrong.
Have to listen to a shitload of covers of "House of the Rising Sun" for an assignment.
ELO - "Do Ya"
Celtic Frost- "Dethroned Emperor"
Probably not 4/20 appropriate, but whatever.
King Crimson - "In The Wake Of Poseidon"
Not that big of a fan of the band, but this is one of my favorite songs... ever.
Crowded House- "Four Seasons in One Day"
Is it weird that one of the first things that came to mind when playing this album is One Direction? Albeit a non-sucky 1D, but still.

Is it weird that I'm shocked that there were more Crowded House songs than Don't Dream It's Over?
They're another one of those bands that were a lot bigger in Europe and their native Australia than in the US.
It's so weird how many of those there were.
Anthrax- "I Am the Law"
Well, "Caught in a Mosh" just wrapped up. I find the original studio version so boring compared to live takes, including the one for the music video. Still a fun album though.
The Vapors - "Turning Japanese"
Sigh- "Amnesia"
Holy shit, this is sexy. And good homework music, too.
Pearl Jam - "No Way"
Motorhead- "Bad Woman"
Brother Ali - Prince Charming (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjFWPZ9H4XU)
Love it!
Paradise Lost- "Tragic Idol"
Really liking the new album, this track in particular, which has a bit of a Type O vibe. It's more melodic and virtuous than some of their other work, so I might recommend it to beginners.
My Name is Jonas. Love this fucking song, it's so brilliant.
Metallica- "Eye of the Beholder"
You know how we were talking about album length earlier? Well, sticking to that, I think that Metallica are especially guilty of going over the line for length, especially on this album, where everything is just long as fuck for no reason. Even outside of AJFA, I think you can name all of the songs they have that are under 5 minutes in length on one hand, if that.
Rage Against the Machine - "No Shelter"
Beastie Boys - "Make Some Noise"
If you haven't heard, Adam Yauch/MCA (one of the founding members) passed away this morning due to complications from cancer. Another one gone way too soon...
Beastie Boys - "Shake Your Rump"
The reasons have been stated already.
Oh wow, that sucks
Oranssi Pazuzu- "Kerettilainen Vuohi"
Love the Beasties, it's such terrible news.
That "Make Some Noise" song is awesome btw. I was surprised by the awesomeness of their latest album, it's really good.
I was surprised when it was nominated for video of the year at the VMAs. It was incredible, though.
I just heard No Sleep Til Brooklyn on the radio.
RIP.
RIP MCA. :( I don't listen to the Beasties much, but I really should.
Yeah, 96X played them for like 30 minutes straight a little bit ago.
Beastie Boys - "Sabotage"
Seriously.
Beastie Boys - "She's Crafty".
Probably my favorite BB track. I love Zeppelin sample.
Beastie Boys - "Fight For Your Right" Might as well complete the trifecta with their worst best song.
Fuel - "Shimmer"
Junior Kimbrough- "Stay All Night"
Damn good blues.
Temple of the Dog - "Pushin Forward Back"
Motorhead- "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)"
Is there ever a bad time for Lemmy?
Green Day - "Sassafras Roots"
Swag Like Caillou (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rCNVNaxr6w)

UFO- "Mother Mary"
Strangers in the Night is still the best live album ever.
The Dandy Warhols - "We Used To Be Friends"
Chicago- "Make Me Smile"
Loverboy - "Lovin' Every Minute of It"
Atheist- "Mother Man"
Have you guys heard this track before? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utqWrkVEQvI) It's one of the craziest intros out there.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Breaking The Girl
Velvet Revolver - "Set Me Free"
Black Sabbath- "Megalomania"
This is my favorite Ozzy-era album. I just love how angry everyone sounds, because of how screwed they all got by their label. Sadly, they'd never match this sound again, since their last albums were dull as dirt, but I still think it's the coolest thing.
Dire Straits - Walk Of Life
Sorry Mr. Dad, I really like this one. Especially the lyrics, they really sum up where they come from very well. Sure the keys could be more organ-ish instead of keyboard-ish, but I think it's a pretty great song.
Better Than Ezra - "Normal Town"

Ah cool, glad to see I'm not alone.
I don't think there's really any period of Dire Straits that I outright dislike, though. Almost all of their stuff holds up pretty well for me.
Buzzcocks- "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)"
Queen - The Seven Seas Of Ryhe
Still possibly my favorite Queen tune. It's way too overlooked.
Meatloaf - Paradise By The Dashboard Light
What a shame these guys couldn't stick it out together longer. We got so little material by the pair.
Beck - "Where It's At"
Beastie Boys- "The New Style"
Might as well bring some Beasties back in here. MCA for life.
Aphex Twin - "Xtal"
New Order- "The Perfect Kiss"
I sincerely think this one song is better than Joy Division's entire discography. The rest of NO's run can't compete otherwise though.
Echo & The Bunnymen - "Do It Clean". One hell of a riff from Mr. Sargeant.
Beastie Boys - "So What'cha Want"
Johnny Cash- "Hurt"
I'm honestly not as crazy on this as everyone else is. Cash's performance is great, but I just hate the original version so much, and think that the lyrics are absolutely dreadful, that I can't appreciate it as much as I should. It is objectively a good cover though.
"Trent Reznor" and "good lyrics" are not typically something that go together.
Personally, I like the cover for the emotion he puts out and little else. I don't like the original either.
Do NIN songs even have lyrics? Everything I've heard is usually illegible.
Type O Negative- "Christian Woman"
Not pop in any sense at all, but whatever. This is probably my favorite type of music there is, but few were able to do it better than Pete.
Return to Forever - "Captain Se?or Mouse"
Elvis Presley - King Creole
Led Zeppelin - "Fool in the Rain"
Beach Boys - Sail On, Sailor
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Voodoo Mon Amour (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2mZVOd0jWY)
Swing metal? This band is fucking crazy and I love it!
Melvins- "Echo Head/Don't Piece Me"
Mahavishnu Orchestra - "All in the Family" Great track from an album everybody hates for some reason (probably Narada Walden's singing)
Dio- "Holy Diver"
So many albums that I'd consider to be perfect are metal ones. This one, the first 3 Rainbows, Heaven and Hell, the first 3 Dickinson-led Maiden albums, Focus, Relentless, Mindcrime, Rust in Peace....
"Don't Start a Band" by Reel Big Fish.
Foo Fighters- "Monkey Wrench"
That part where Dave starts screaming out the lyrics as fast as possible is my favorite part in any FF song.
One last thing before I quit I never wanted anymore than I could fit into my head I still remember every single word you said and all the shit that somehow came along with it still there's one thing that comforts me since I was always caged and now I'm free!

"The World is New" by Save Ferris.
I'm in such a ska mood.
Motorhead- "Dead Men Tell No Tale"
Lemmy>you
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - "The French Song"
Bay City Rollers - Saturday Night
It's a great song, I don't care what you say!
Cathedral- "Ebony Tears"
Lynyrd Skynyrd- "You Got That Right".
Dalek just sent me this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryRexhLfL_k)
I don't like the band at all, but this is amazing.
...Is there a way to turn off the music? Because I think that would make the video more enjoyable, except for I can't find the damned "Mute the Music" button.
There's a mute button, but yeah, that'd require muting Marc and Harvey, which isn't worth it.
Damnit I wish somebody with a brain would revive Double Dare. Its still the gold standard of kids game shows imho.
Well, like I mentioned in the thread, they're bringing it to the Nick Hotel in Orlando. Maybe if it tests well enough, they might shoot some episodes out of it.
"So Sue Us" by Dance Hall Crashers and "Pool Party" by The Aquabats.
Ska ska ska.
Jurassic 5 - What's Golden
This song refuses to date.
Rush- "Anthem"
You know how they used to call James Brown the busiest man in showbiz before he died? Well, I think that honor needs to go to Geddy. He sings, plays bass, synth AND acoustic guitar, sometimes all at once, for one of the biggest touring bands on earth. Not to mention their dabbling in philanthropy.
Uh, have I ever posted this on here? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAvXHpLwJA4)
Might just be the best thing ever.
I really hope they are like a joke band or something, because that was too terrible to take seriously.
They're a joke band, alright. And yes, about half the songs on that album is about anal.
I think I agree with Sarah Silverman, "Death to all butt-metal".
It's not bad as joke music, but as far as that glam-revival type music goes, I prefer The Darkness.
The radio is playing "Jaded" without "Brain Stew". I have never heard that before.
Heh, I'm listening to GD now. "Haushinka", to be exact.
Awesome song, I approve.
Now the radio is playing a DMX song. Remember him? I didn't, until now.
I remember the name, but wouldn't remember a song of his if you played it for me.

DMX. This wasn't the song that was just on though, don't know the name of that one.
Teenage Bottlerocket- "Bigger than Kiss".
That was DMX? I thought that was Ja Rule.

"Send Me Your Money" by Suicidal Tendencies.
Lots of good stuff today.
Really? Death metal is one of the more vibrant scenes out there IMO. True, there are a lot of obnoxious Gorguts knock-offs, but I find a good fluctuation of technical and "classic" death acts all the time. Not as much as doom, mind you, but still more than thrash at least, which at this point consists of primarily Amebix wannabes.
Anyway, randomly playing Rumours, cause why not, and "Dreams" is on. I can't believe considering how huge this band and album was, this was their only chart-topper. It's such a beautiful song though.

I hate mindless screaming for entire songs. It robs all emotion from music. At least "butt rock" attempts to be enjoyable. I'd rather listen to Cheap Trick at the Budokan than some guy screaming about how life is pain while the same boring double bass plays in my ear for 4+ minutes.

I'll grant you that my favorite kind of death metal growls are the kind where you can actually hear the lyrics, like Schuldiner's, and one of my least favorite tropes today is how many bands have undetectable vocals. It's really become a problem in the past 15 or so years.
Which is why I'll always recommend Death and Cynic for death metal recs. Death for the reasons I listed above, and also their progressive growth from a horror-themed death metal act to one that used actual horrors for lyrical content to quasi-prog metal. And Cynic has a combination between equally accessible growling and audible singing, although they've become increasingly less heavy since
Focus.

The new Rush album. After all the hype, I'm intrigued.
I have the new Rush set up to play soon. I'll get to it tomorrow, probably
Silversun Pickups- "Out of Breath"
Boxcar Racer - "I Feel So"
Heard this for the first time in years the other day. So apparently, this is Blink-182 in essentially everything but name only (with a couple of other different guys thrown in; I forget who all was involved, exactly). I don't know how I didn't pick up on that as a kid, but eh, whatevs. It's okay.
Yeah, they were just a side project of blink, which featured Tom Delonge and Travis Barker(although Mark Hoppus did guest vocal on one song; so did Tim Armstrong of Op Ivy/Rancid/Transplants fame[and Billie Joe's cousin]). Tom formed it as a contradiction to the pop-punkiness/jokeyness of blink(who were at the time riding off of the Take off Your Pants and Jacket album), because he wanted to do a more hardcore/serious project, and it was only meant to be a one-album fling. Travis joined in because he was branching out at the time, also being in the aforementioned Transplants at the same time.
It's an alright album, but my favorite blink-182 side project is +44. Anything is better than the awfulness of Angels and Airwaves though, ugh.
/blink-182 nerdiness history lesson.
Starting up Clockwork Angels. "Caravan" has a sick riff so far. The bass is killer too.
Edit: Overall, the album's okay. About as good as Snakes & Arrows. In fact, it reminds me of it a lot- both have very strong opening tracks/singles, while the rest of the album falters out after it.
My favorite blink "side project" is The Fury Of The Aquabats!
*ahem*... Cyndi Lauper - 911

I'm about halfway through. On Seven Cities Of Gold now. I'd say it's about on the same levels as Snakes And Arrows. Some okay songs, but nothing that really interests me. The bass is really good, but everything else sounds kind of... distant? I don't know.
EDIT: The beginning of The Wreckers sounds eerily like "Working At Perfekt" from Geddy's solo album. o.O

Megadeth- "Tornado of Souls"

"Just What I Needed" - The Cars.
And I like the band The Cars. Always kind of thought of them as the Weezer of the 70s/80s.
Louis XIV - "Finding Out True Love Is Blind"
:humhumhum:
Dio- "Shame on the Night"
Finishing Holy Diver up for the first time in a while, and wow, I forgot how imperfect this album is. The two big hits, the title track and "Rainbow in the Dark", are still masterpieces and there's a couple of other gems, but there are more weak tracks than I remember, and even some of the ones I do like just sound way better live.

"Never Say Never" - by Romeo Void.
Some New Wave action.
The new Smashing Pumpkins album. I'm liking it more than I expected to, which is always nice.

Those are some of my favorites of his.
^Black or White is fucking awesome. That is all.
UFO - "Too Hot to Handle".
Yeah, I'll admit of the "essential four" MJ albums, Dangerous is the weakest, but there's a lot of good tunes on it. Like this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbHI1yI1Ndk) that aren't too soft or over the top with his ego.
And, err, yeah that's what I'm currently listening to.
"Black & White" is too preachy for me.
Really? I thought it had a good balance of being anti-racist without being obnoxious about it like most pop music would be.
Maybe that's why I like Dangerous, since I don't think his views overshadow the music like they did on the stuff after it, or get as boring as Invincible. My only problem with it is the album is way too overlong.

Well I don't see how "Like a Prayer" is really preachy at all. It's just about a really good blow job.
"Black or White" has a decent message that gets knocked into my head one too many times. I'll admit that it's nowhere as bad as "Man in the Mirror" or "They Don't Really Care About Us", but it's not a favorite.
"Roots Radicals" - Rancid.

Oh Canada...
311 - "Beautiful Disaster"
The Ramones - "California Sun"
Soundgarden- "Outshined"
Parliament - Getten' To Know You
One of my all time favorites.
"Powerslave" - Iron Maiden.
When was the last time you heard this on terrestrial radio? You don't, huh? Well they play it on Sirius. Just sayin
My local modern rock station has a Saturday night block dedicated to 80's metal, as in glam, traditional and thrash. I haven't caught them playing "Powerslave" before, since I don't listen every week, but they play deeper Maiden cuts.
Neutral Milk Hotel- "The King of Carrot Flowers Parts 2 & 3"
^They also play Neutral Milk Hotel as well, albeit on the college rock station. I've never really listened to them much before, so when I catch a song on their I listen to it. Still not quite sure if it's my thing or not yet.
I'm sorry too, I just love my Sirius, don't care about the extra expense(it's 12 bucks/mo and I can easily swing it). I haven't listened to the regular terrestrial radio in like two months.
My sister has Sirius, but she only plays the country stations on them. What's really annoying is that she already owns most if not all the songs they play on them on her iPhone, and plays them on her own often.
I've used it before and I found some cool stations, like a metal one that does a lot of stuff from Blind Guardian to Morbid Angel. I'd like it for my car.
I don't mind country, I just don't know anything about it. I didn't grow up around anyone who listened to it.
I actually like country. Not the pop shit like Taylor Swift and that abominable Red Solo Cup song, but twangy guitars and banjos and harmonicas and stuff? Hell yeah.
I'm more of a blues fan myself. Country tends to do little for me for some reason.
Blues is definitely far superior. I love blues. 8)
Iron Maiden- "Still Life"
Let's see you hear this on Sirius. Currently got Piece of Mind on, after finishing Killers earlier.
^"Urban Struggle" by The Vandals is playing right now on Sirius. Anything is possible, considering not just one station plays Iron Maiden, several of them do. I will say though that of all the Iron Maiden songs that I've heard so far on the service, "Run to the Hills" is one of the rarer ones.
"That Don't Impress Me Much" - Shania Twain.
90's.
Cyndi Lauper - Maybe He'll Know
Not as good as the Blue Angel version, but the outro is phenomenal. Great version altogether.
"Shakin'" - Eddie Money.
And they just played Fishbone on Sirius. Yeah, better than regular radio.
Oh uh, "Fool for the City" by Foghot.
Van Halen - "Jump"
This song = instant good mood. :happytime:
Emerson, Lake & Palmer- "The Endless Enigma, Part II"
"One of These Nights" - Eagles.
I love the atmosphere of this song.
Genesis- "Here Comes the Supernatural Anaesthetist"
Kanye West - "Lost In the World/Who Will Survive In America"
Makes me want to dance. :awesome:
EDIT: And now Yes - "Fly From Here"
I'm all over the place genre-wise tonight.
Iron Maiden- "Fear of the Dark" taken from Live at Donnington
I think I know the reason why this sounds so much better live today than it does in the original recording, which is also why this doesn't sound as great here- the song REALLY needs the push with the third guitar. Bringing Adrian back to play alongside Dave and Janick makes it sound a lot more epic and bigger than it does with just the two of them. Not to mention that Bruce's raspier voice from that era isn't a great compliment, and Dave used to do his solo a lot faster. It sounds so much better now, especially when you hear it up close, like I got to last year.
Reel Big Fish - "Sell Out"
The Dead Weather- "I Can't Hear You"
This was in the movie Crazy, Stupid Love. I just learned this. It does not matter to me in any conceivable way.
Oingo Boingo - "Weird Science"
Digable Planets- "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)"
I can't believe I'm feeling nostalgic for a nostalgia block, but I'm listening to a playlist of videos used from the short-lived MTV2 Legit block. This was where I first discovered Digable Planets, so I'll always thank it for that. I wish it ran longer.
Our Lady Peace - "One Man Army"
Loverboy - "The Kid is Hot Tonite"
Dunno why, but the intentional misspelling of "tonight" always bothered me. That's OCD for ya, I guess. Still a good song though.
Baroness- "Yellow Theme"
About to begin on this new voyage. I'm pretty much the only metal fan on here though, so I probably won't bother commenting on it.
Serj Tankian's Harakiri. Loved Elect the Dead, hated the fuck out of Imperfect Harmonies, and now I feel like this new album is a much-welcomed return to form.
Deep Purple - "Child in Time" =(
Iron Maiden0 "22 Acacia Avenue"
I should be listening to some Purple though.
Chuck Berry "School Days".
I recently bought a guitar(a Fender Starcaster that I got for like $180 at Guitar Center), and this is the second song that I learned to play. Anyone wanna take a guess at the first song I learned? I'll give you a hint, it's a band(although it's not one of their well known songs) that both me and Desen both like quite a lot, just not their recent work. And they also had a new single come out today.
I hear the new No Doubt single sucks. Does it?
There's a new No Doubt single?
It would have to be pretty bad to be worse than most of Rocksteady.
http://www.nodoubt.com/settledown/
Yeah, new No Doubt single. But it's not the band I was talking about.
Uh, the only other band I can think of is Motley Crue, but I know that isn't it.
Oh wait, Green Day released one today, didn't they?
No Doubt - Settle Down
... This sounds like Gwen's solo stuff again.
I'm still confused as to why their material without a keyboard player has boatloads more synth than the stuff with him. It's called a piano, guys- Slower songs sound way better with it instead of synth.
All in all, why did this take so long to come out? It sounds exactly like Rocksteady.
New Motley Crue too? Damn. Well Looks That Kill would be a cool song to learn, or Live Wire.
I'm gonna go with Brain Stew.
But there are a lot of new albums coming out. Yeesh.
No, although that one's probably not too tough to play.
It was this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8yhIqBGbF4
Well before we trash new ND, let's not forget that "Tattoo" sucked as well, but the new Van Halen turned to be pretty good besides that.
But wow, this is NOT a good sign no matter what.
Jesus, this sounds more like Rihanna than No Doubt or even solo Gwen. How the fuck did they do that.
Huh, never would have guessed that. I think the first song Mark Hoppus learned to play was Going To Pasalaqua.

There's an album preview for Push & Shove out there... It's pretty much more of this. :/
I wasn't expecting an album as strange as the self-titled, as alternative as Beacon Street, or as great as Tragic Kingdom... But I was hoping for at least a fun pop rock album like Return Of Saturn (only without the ton of filler) again. Rocksteady was one of the few times I've ever called a band a sell out, and it's a shame that they've continued down this path.
Can we just have a good old fashion pop rock song on the pop charts for once?
Seriously, listen to "Settle Down" again and put this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0CGsw6h60k) on. Can you tell the difference?
There's no identity to this song. It isn't as offensive as "Hey Baby", but it's even more boring, which is just sad.
The thing is, No Doubt already had a good pop sound before that terrible song. Spiderwebs, Open The Gate, Trapped In A Box, Bathwater, and even Underneath It All (one of the few Rocksteady songs I enjoy) are all really good songs that have way more character than this stuff.
Now they sound like everything else out there. :bleh:
If they made an album that sounded like this, I would be ecstatic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXF8XQLZm70)
The original version doesn't even sound that good.

I didn't know that, I just knew that he learned how to play bass from Cure songs.
Well next up on the sink or swim ship is Aerosmith.
I'm hoping they pull off a miracle with this one. But if there's any ballads on here I swear to god...
Speaking of No Doubt, I always wondered why they cut off the end of Spiderwebs on the album? The last minute really makes the song, IMO.

Weren't their last like 5 hits ballads?
As much as I want to hear a fun rocker again, it doesn't seem like anyone else wants them.

Pretty much.
They supposedly got their producer from the 2-5th albums back and are trying to recreate their sound from those albums. The tours where they did Toys in the Attic and Rocks all the way through was supposed to be a teaser for that. But I dunno, it's hard to trust Steven Tyler ever since he relapsed.

I would hope they could.
Ever since Cheap Trick came out with Rockford, though, I've been pretty optimistic with bands being able to connect with their roots while still sounding their age. Fantastic stuff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeXqkssnYrU&feature=related).
It's totally doable, as long as they put their heart and soul into it.
Yeah, Van Halen and The Cars did it well too. So did The Beach Boys, from what I heard of he new album (I didn't play it all, since I wanted to wait for when I buy it).
It's not impossible.
Edit: Oh, and Maiden too. But that's kinda obvious that they're still pulling it out well.
Oh yeah, forgot about those! (Also forgot about the BB album supposedly being the best one since the 80s comeback one) So yeah, it's doable.
So I guess I can only hope that if there are any ballads, they'll hopefully be kept to a minimum.
I wouldn't even mind more ballads so much if the band wasn't in their 60's and too old to try to make us feel bad about crappy relationships or whatever they used to write them about. It's one thing to still write rockers, it's another to pretend like you're still partying and angst-ridden as you were at your peak. Because that simply isn't the case anymore.
And you know what comeback album I'd like to hear? I wouldn't mind it if Jefferson Airplane, not Starship or whatever, come back and do one more album. I'm not expecting something on the level of Surrealistic Pillow, but I'd like to hear Grace Slick's voice just one more time.
Yeah, hedonistic stuff makes sense when you're a teenager on in your twenties, but it gets kind of old after decades of the stuff. It's pretty much why the Stones couldn't make a good album post-Some Girls.
But writing about how fun it is to rock? Never gets old. It's why classic '50s rockers are still great fun today.
Oh, so we talked about new No Doubt, but have you heard -url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf6jNeCQv2k]new Matchbox 20[/url]?
So. Fucking. Blah. It has the same problem as "Settle Down", too- no identity. If Rob Thomas's vocals weren't so recognizable, it could easily be a Maroon 5 or dubstep-era Green Day track.
I'm so over the music industry. There's just no soul left in it. You know it's bad when you're hoping decades old bands deliver music as good as they wrote decades ago.
I didn't think it was THAT bad myself. :P
But yeah, I get what you're saying.
Triumph - "Just a Game"

Can't believe I missed this post, but... yeah. This. Right here.
I know Starship is still plugging away in some form or another (don't even know who's still left at this point), but that's just... ehhhhh. And even going beyond the really obvious bad stuff (WE BUILT THIS CITYYYYY ON ROOOOOOOOOOCK AND ROOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL), that whole era of the band is just so forgettable to me. I mean, they've got some
okay stuff I guess; "Find Your Way Back" is decent, but otherwise... it's just all so meh.
I'd love to see new Airplane though. Grace, Paul, Jorma, Marty... let's get them all back together again. Their last "comeback" album was back in 1989, so we're due.
Yeah, I don't care much for (Jefferson) Starship much at all, but I'd love to see if they can pull off one more Airplane album.
Bruce Dickinson- "Power of the Sun"
Been in a mood for solo Bruce lately. The last album he did isn't too strong, but it contains some gems like this.
Mid to late 70's Jefferson Starship has some really good AOR stuff. It's only when they dropped the "Jefferson" altogether in the 80s that they went downhill.
Speaking of Green Day, you know that NBC show The Voice? Billy Joe is going to be a part of it now. He's going to team up with Christina Aguilera I guess.
Motorhead- "Doctor Rock"
Jim Croce - "Hey Tomorrow".
Lynyrd Skynyrd - "That Smell"
Is it time to start drinking already? Shit.
a-Ha- "I Dream Myself Alive"
What a strong, overlooked album. "Take On Me" is great, of course, but so is every other track.
Airbourne - "Stand Up For Rock 'N Roll"
Deathspell Omega- "Fiery Serpents"
Starting the new EP up, and I'm really liking it. It's already getting justly brutal. :swoon:
Matchbox 20 - "Bent"
Billy Idol - "Rebel Yell"
Blondie - "Rip Her To Shreds".
Iron Maiden- "For the Greater Good of God"
Listening to AMOLAD twice in a row. Don't judge me.
Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - "Woodstock".
Iron Maiden- "Sea of Madness"
Now I have Somewhere in Time on. I don't see why Bruce can't be considered a legend because he's in a metal band. In fact, I feel compelled to make a post on tz explaining why traditional metal singers are among the most praise-worthy vocalists in all of music.
Do you count Dio in that tier as well? Just curious. Personally, I do.
I think if you knew anything about DLA then you'd already have your answer.
- Bruce Dickinson
- Ronnie James Dio
- Rob Halford (to an extent- my thoughts on Rob are complicated)
- Matt Barlow
- Geoff Tate (up to the mid-90's, at least)
- Blaze Bayley (fuck you, he's good)
- Ian Gillian
- Glenn Hughes
- David Coverdale (I might be cheating with these last three, but they qualify as traditional metal to me)
Anyone in this tier.
but dood what bout hetfield? or maynard james keenan? u need to rechek ur list.
In all seriousness I love you for including Coverdale. Dude's amazing.
Anyway I'm listening to the other, other Demi song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZImSdnanWhs) I could've used for my list.
Any thoughts on it? I don't really regret not putting it in since it's rather derivative of "Since U Been Gone" (no surprise, since Kelly Clarkson is one of her biggest idols, along with Aretha), with a bit of a reverse message. but I still really enjoy it.

The Vines - "Ride"
Spin Doctors - Two Princes
This band might be the most obvious example of sophomore slump there is. But I really do dig their first album.
Yaz - "Situation"
Yes, I'm suddenly in the mood seeing as how that esurance ad Spark posted has this playing in the background. Such is life.

Heh, funny you should mention them; I see they're actually going to be out this way for a free concert at the end of the month (part of the entertainment package for the rib cook-off they have here every year). I haven't been to an actual concert since Gin Blossoms did the same thing two years ago, so this should be interesting, provided I can make it down there that is.
...and as far as their second album is concerned, I actually liked that one as well (and it wasn't a total flop; it was certified Platinum in the States, and did sell over a million copies). It was their third album when the wheels really started to come off.
Iron Maiden- "The Prisoner"
Thinking about making a "starter" album of Maiden's music to make for my friends, as well as one for Demi. It'd start with this.
Joe Walsh - "Life's Been Good".
"I go to parties sometimes until four, it's hard to leave when you can't find the door."
Dio- "I Could Have Been a Dreamer"
I've been on a Ronnie kick lately. I played Rising earlier, and I'll put Holy Diver on later. Maybe The Last in Line too.
Knife Party - "Bonfire"
Breaking Bad has a tendency for me to appreciate music that I should have no business liking otherwise. It's weird like that.
Rites of Spring- "For Want Of"
Audioslave - "Show Me How To Live"
Classic rock stations here have slowly began to descend into this era now. Though I'll admit, at least it's better than Creed (and I actually do like this song for what it's worth, even if a hint of RATM preachiness still manages to drip its way in).
Yeah, before my classic rock station sold out to a Miami news station, they did start playing Audioslave. I thought it was a little too modern, but oh well. I guess it's retro to some.
Meat Loaf - Paradise By The Dashboard Light
I miss the rockabilly tinge the first album had at times.
Geto Boys - "Still"
Honey Claws - "Digital Animal"
Another Breaking Bad piece. Damn, the soundtrack for this show is downright irresistable at times.
That Handsome Devil is releasing a new (free!) album on the 28th. Apparently, it's going to consist of covers of the songs from The Jungle Book and a retelling of the story by the band. Here's the sample track they released:
Fire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bD9Mc8golVE) (I Wanna Be Like You)
So excite! :swoon:
The Wallflowers - "6th Avenue Heartache".
Is it weird if I like Bob Dylan's son more than the legend himself. Because I kinda do.
Oh and that was a pretty cool song Foggle.
Yeah, that is pretty slick.
Barenaked Ladies - "One Week"
...shut up guys, I'm allowed to have guilty pleasures.
Listen to whatever you want, bro. ;D
Listening to Mystery - "Through Different Eyes"
Bay City Rollers - Saturday Night
This is so slick. (http://soundcloud.com/wax-poetics/kendra-morris-im-real-ft) Two sexy voices and dat beat.
Tom Petty - "You Don't Know How It Feels"
Jeff Buckley- "Grace"
I can't listen to this album too often, so I only pull it out every now and then. When I do listen to it though, it sounds like a new experience each time. It still sounds so good today.
TLC - Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg
Have I ever talked about Blaze's solo career?
He made this album shortly after losing his wife (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kSFXk7LzxA), and it sounds so raw, so good. His Maiden work isn't for everyone, and is rather divided in the fandom, but IMO, the guy has a great voice. Maybe not the best for their sound, but here it sounds as strong as it really is.
Beck - "Pay No Mind"
"Sappy" - Nirvana.
See, I do like some Nirvana songs. Even if it is just Kurt singing about his pet turtle.
Katatonia- "Hypnone"
This new album is pretty good so far.
That Handsome Devil's The Jungle Book is out now! It's free and not very long so you should totally listen to it!
http://thathandsomedevil.net/fr_thdhome.cfm
At least check out this track. :happytime:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbVhebmtlhg&feature=related
Little Richard - Keep A Knocking
His best song, IMO.
Sigh- "Dreamsphere (Return to Chaos)"
Sleater-Kinney - "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone".
Is it just me, or would Jane's Addiction be about 5x better if they had a different vocalist? I love their music, but that voice...
It's an acquired taste. Sort of like Geddy Lee in Rush. You can either get past it or you can't.
I like Perry Ferrell's voice. Maybe you don't much care for it because it reminds you of De la Rocha's voice(they do sound similar), and we all know about you and Rage.

Heh, that might be it.
Both Ferrell and De la Rocha sound like Beastie Boy wannabes to me.
I... actually thought that "Killing in the Name" of was a Beasties song the first time I heard it. That's one of my biggest blonde moments.
Honestly, before I got into RATM I thought their songs were Beastie Boy songs. Luckily I figured out what was what before accidentally purchasing a BB album.
Funny since they actually toured together like a decade ago.
I'd go to that concert, I like all three of them. Beasties are the best though.
I do like JA, and obviously I love the Beasties. I liked Rage a lot more when I was in high school, but I can do without them.
Still better than Audioslave, though.
Audioslave's first album is still awesome. Barring a few great songs ("Moth", love that song), the other two are... well... uninspired?
Riot- "Don't Bring Me Down"
Classic album, shitty album art.
In my darkest dreams, I see that album cover, man. XD
Garbage - "Vow"
Demi Lovato - "Give Your Heart a Break".
Uh...

Yeah. The thing is, pop is so much easier to listen to on Sirius, where I can listen to channels that aren't inundated with Usher styled R&B crap and Auto-tuned junk. So yeah, I'll take some of your Demi DLA.
Uh... thanks?
Lit - "My Own Worst Enemy"
Ice Cube - "Bop Gun (One Nation)", the 11 minute version. Funkin' masterpiece tbh.
Judas Priest- "Victim of Changes"
Tied with "Painkiller" for their best song IMO. And they both happen to be opening tracks. Even though the original studio version kinda sucks...
Actually, I may have to write a thread on all of my problems with Priest as a whole. Because I have a LOT of them.
Shiny Toy Guns - "Ghost Town".
Mando Diao - "Down in the Past"
Aerosmith- "Bone to Bone (Coney Island White Fish Boy)"
Have I posted this remix before? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb6KUqMm_sA) I want to say I have, but here it is again anyway, just because.
Fantastic.

This is funking legit.
The Ozzman - "I Don't Want To Change the World". And Dio - "Mystery".
Ozzy and Dio simultaneously? Somehow I don't think the Ozzman would approve of that.
Melechesh- "Ghouls of Nineveh"
Yeasayer - "Demon Road"
Really loving the new album.
Blind Guardian- "Valhalla"
One of the best power metal songs ever made. Also, did you know that Blind Guardian were offered to score the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but turned it down?
:-\
What now?
Iron Maiden- "Murders in the Rue Morgue"
Why would you turn that down?
Oh, true lol
Well they were working on another album at the time and didn't want it to interfere with their work. Which is pretty silly, considering how FUCKING HUGE BG would have become if they accepted the offer.
Oh well, some things were not meant to be.
Gorillaz - "Feel Good Inc."
Black Sabbath - "TV Crimes".

:D Still one of my favorite albums ever.
As for me, Clockwork Angels.
This happened. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfN-woMpD04)
My god.
Beastie Boys - "Triple Trouble"
TLC - Hat 2 Da Back
That first album is some really great stuff.
Pantera- "Walk"
This is the first time I've listened to Vulgar in years. I still like Power Metal (quite underrated, IMO) and Cowboys, but something happened between Cowboys and this album. The band became increasingly stupid in a search to sound heavier.
And it really shows in songs like this. Even when I was a bigger fan of Pantera, I detested this song. It's lowest common denominator heavy, with no effort put into the music other than to sound "raw", but is still one of their biggest songs. It's their "Seek and Destroy", basically.
And the next song is even dumber. Fucking hostile my ass.
Yeah, I can't stand that song.
Somebody needs to get the soundtrack from tonight's Gravity Falls, and put it up for download somewhere.
Because I just can't get enough.
I gotta get onto watching that
Genesis- "Turn It On Again"
Pearl Jam - "Daughter"
Green Day - "Kill The DJ".
I... am actually excited for the first of three new records from the guys. At first I wasn't too excited, and the song "Oh Love" is still pretty boring, but from everything I've read Uno! is supposed to be more in the line of Dookie rather than their recent stuff(and apparently Dos! is similar to Foxboro Hot Tubs). This song gives a pretty strong Clash vibe, and it's really the most I've been interested in the band since "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Holiday" were released as singles.
Huh, I thought they were going dubstep with these albums for some reason.
Heaven and Hell- "Shadow of the Wind"
The Vines - "Get Free"
Obituary- "Circle of the Tyrants"
Excellent cover of a classic Celtic Frost track from one of the best death metal albums of all time. :swoon:
Airbourne - "Runnin' Wild"
Misfits- "Vampira"
Rancid - "Roots Radical".
Ghost- "Stand by Him"
This still sounds soooo good. The perfect mix between classic and modern metal.
Iron Maiden - "Space Truckin'".
It really is a great cover.
Yep ;D
Thin Lizzy- "Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend"
Heh, pretty cluttered title, huh?
Johnossi - "Execution Song"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3RpfKCPc00
Good stuff!
Gypsyhawk- "Hedgeking"
Randomly playing some AniRev user recommendations and, I found a Demi song I kind of like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMKqLj7fRuo
It sounds better live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQSjMaAU7xc) Although this was around the time she started to loser her voice from purging.
Joe Bonamassa- "Slow Gin"
He's coming to town in December, so I'm listening to some of his live performances to see if it's worth going to see him. He's a great guitarist, but I'm not entirely sure if it's my favorite thing to see on stage.
Stephen Stills - "Love the One You're With".
Cazwell - "Ice Cream Truck"
Veronica Maggio- "Stopp"
More fuel to the fire that the Scandinavian countries are way more interesting than England.
Broadcast - "Living Room"
Tom Waits- "Small Change"
The Black Keys - "Howlin' For You"
Beardfish - The Void
I'm on my first listen and already enjoying this more than their last album.
Missing Persons - "Walking in L.A."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BytHBvL4XkI
T. Rex - Mambo Sun
Jay-Z & Kanye West- "Niggas in Paris"
I don't know why I like this song so much. It's pure ego, nothing else, and it isn't catchy at all in a conventional sense. And I normally can't stand Kanye at all. But I just do.
dat shit cray
Rockwell - "Somebody's Watching Me"
This song is just so October to me. I have no idea why.
Witchcraft- "An Alternative to Freedom"
This new album has a pretty mixed reception. A lot of people seem to think that they're selling out by cutting back on the retro metal sound they've stuck to, while others think it's a step in the right direction. I'm liking it so far. It's still sludgy and reasonably catchy, which are totally good things for this type of music, and it does have a nice modern-ish sound.
I'm not crazy on the vocals though. They remind me of Rise Against. I still think this is a step in the right direction, however.
Sammy Hagar - "There's Only One Way To Rock".
Classic rock staple.
UFO- "Rock Bottom"
This has some of the best lead ever recorded. Even on the studio version.
I... kind of downloaded my first dubstep song. :-[
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s88JDxazUKo
But hey, at least it's not Skrillex, right guys? Guys?
Could be worse. You could like Gangam Style.
No, but I have caught myself singing "Hey, sexy lady!" a few times in recent weeks.

Newish single.
Neil Young- "Old Man"
Hey Spark, od you guys have appreciation days for him and Rush? If not, you should.
Edit: oh, and Triumph! They kick ass too.
Squeeze - "Tempted by the Fruit of Another"
DUN NUN DUN
DUN NUN DUN
Screeching Weasel - "I Hate Led Zeppelin".
This doesn't reflect my feelings, btw.
Jon McLaughlin- "Jazz Jungle"
Damn, this album slays.
Supertramp - "Breakfast in America".
Baroness- "Little Things"
This album left me a little cold on the first couple of listens, but it's been haunting my mind lately. Which is typically a good thing. Listening again and I'm liking it about the same, but let's see how it goes on for me.
The Velvet Underground - "Heroin"
Eminem - "Square Dance".
Roxette - "The Look"
Uh, yeah, I like this one. Don't hate. :thinkin:
Thou- "Another Look is Inevitable"
Weezer - "Island in the Sun"
The Beatles- "I Me Mine"
What a mediocre album. There's a reason I never spin this much at all.
Alex Turner - "Piledriver Waltz"
Huey and the New Yorkers - Let My People Go
Awesome freakin' song. Love Huey Morgan.
Duran Duran- "Rio"
Say what you will about the rest of their stuff, but this song kicks all sorts of ass.
Duran Duran is awesome. :thinkin:
Green Day - "Kill the DJ"
Finally got around to spinning some of the new stuff, and... eh, it's okay I guess. Definitely better than 21st, anyway.
James Brown- "Night Train"
Artie Shaw - Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
Excellent.
The Lawrence Arms - "Hey, What Time is 'Pensacola: Wings of Gold' On Anyway?"
Interesting name for a song, but it's a really good song.
Blues Traveler - "Run-Around"
Nocturnus- "Destroying the Manger"
This album has what might be the coolest cover art of all time.

The music is pretty bitching, too. ;)
Electric Six - Gay Bar [Japanese Radio Edit]
Never heard this version before. Pretty awesome actually... it's a re-recording of the song and honestly sounds a lot better than the original. Also, "let's do a radio edit! we're doing a radio edit! at the gay bar!".
EDIT: Never mind, my rip of Fire was a really shitty ol' thing I did with WMP back in the day... it's not a re-recording at all. Actual CD version sounds the same.
So I have $6 of Amazon MP3 credit which I completely forgot about that expires today. What music should I buy?
Get the song 'Open Minded' by The W's...
Since that's the song I'm currently listening to. :P
High on Fire!
I have "Jack's Lament" on, but I need more HOF fans on here. ;)
Really digging that song Spark, thanks for the rec. The W's seem like a great band.

Can't go wrong with Sleep.

So yeah, I've also got a pile of Electric Six rarities here that someone uploaded to 4shared. 16-bit version of Gay Bar? Check. CeCe Peniston - Finally mixed with Danger! High Voltage? Check. E6 cover of a Peaches song? Check.
Mercyful Fate- "At the Sound of the Demon Bell"
Perfect song for tonight.
Steve Miller Band - "Jet Airliner".
The song reminds me of my childhood visits to Reno, not really sure why. Steely Dan's "Do it Again" is the same way.
The White Stripes- "The Union Forever"
Okay, I kinda like this one. Especially the intro.
Rihanna's latest, "Diamonds."
Bland and dull, to the extreme. I hope this isn't representative of the new album's sound. (That's right, folks... she's got another new album coming out in 2 weeks.)

Agreed.
It's that time of year again, huh? Rihanna seems to put out an album by the end of every year it seems.
Every November since '09. Which makes this her 7th.
I'm a little disappointed that Talk That Talk went the way it did. That she trailed it off with 2 lousy, promotion-less (and video-less) singles. "Remixed" (aka: extended, with rap verses added- one of them by... none other than the guy who beat the shit out of her in spring 2009). Instead of releasing her interesting songs as singles ("Watch 'n Learn" and "Drunk on Love"), she released... "Cockiness" and "Birthday Cake." The 2 worst songs on the album. And a crappy Jay-Z double-teamer, "Talk That Talk," also with no promotion and no video (it should've been with Kanye!). She could have drummed up interest for the (admittedly terrible) album by releasing the 5 decent songs as singles rather than 3 + 3, 3 of the best and 3 of the worst.
The Beach Boy- "Johnny Carson"
Love this.
Jorma Kaukonen - "River of Time"
Good album. Of course, it's Jorma, so that just goes without saying.
Gus Gus - "Call of the Wild" :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SvSx7U_qCU
Incubus - "Oil and Water"
The W's - Jason E
Led Zeppelin- "Four Sticks"

Joking aside, I've been listening to some Opeth. Fell in love with them in 2008, got sick of them in 2010, couldn't get into the last album at all. But now I'm having one of those moments where I see a band in my music folder that I haven't listened to in a while, and I just feel like something different. I think I'm overlistening to the stuff I'm into currently, and just want to step back a bit. If that makes sense.
You didn't like the new album? I love it lots.
Miley, of course.
Though the "Nashville" and "Jay-Z" stuff makes it hard to pretend the chorus still works for the requisite festivities.

It's funny, too, because I hate growling vocals and both Damnation and Heritage are clean vocals only. You'd think that'd be heaven for me, but I don't really like either. Heritage isn't terrible, I like the opening title track, The Devil's Orchard, Folklore... but a lot of it just seems to be the band constantly switching between heavy parts and folksy noodling over and over. I know I'm in the minority though. Most people I know who like Opeth love it.
(Ultimate irony being that Deliverance is my favorite album by them, and it's one of the heaviest and most growly they've done.)
Despite me not being as big a fan as I used to be, Akerfeldt is still fucking hilarious live.
Speaking of Akerfeldt, I dug his group's new album as well.
Outkast - "The Whole World".
Demi Lovato- "Shut Up and Love Me"
Recently, two songs that were supposed to be on HWGA leaked, this and the original version of "For the Love of a Daughter". These have both been common knowledge among fans for a while, and listening to them now... eh. The version of FTLOAD on Unbroken sounds so much more raw and stripped down, while this one has a misleading title.
She dropped Daughter because of how dark it is, but SUALM must have been pulled for being so forgettable.
Busta Rhymes - "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See"
Swans- "Failure"
Evil Cowards - Summer Of The Purple Man
Bloody fantastic album.
Agalloch- "Sowilo Rune"
How can a band make some of the rawest, heaviest music alive, and then some of the most beautiful music ever composed, like this? Sometimes, they can even do both at the same time. It's amazing.
Tricky - "Pumpkin"
Dion - Runaround Sue
Ramones - "Rockaway Beach".
It's not too soon, is it?
Ol' Dirty Bastard - "Shimmy Shimmy Ya"
Genesis - "That's All"
Awwww yeah, love this one.
Buckner & Garcia's "Wreck It, Wreck-It-Ralph" keeps making it onto my Fuze's playlist. I'm even hearing it in my head now.
Also, "Today's Supernatural" by Animal Collective is one of my jams currently.
Beck - "The New Pollution"
Black Sabbath- "Children of the Sea"
Blur - "Coffee & TV"
Alice in Chains- "Head Creeps"
I am aghast. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSBq8geuJk0)
I'm not pausing Grace to hear the next "Friday" wannabe.
Fleetwood Mac - "Future Games"
I actually quite like their era between Peter Green and the really popular stuff in the mid-70s and beyond.

bad movie).
It seemed like a parody, when the guy dressed as a giant Turkey showed up. But... it's a serious dumb song? Ugh. Seems like a LONG time to wait after "Friday" to try cashing in on it.
By the way, the video has several points of unintentional hilarity: she actually frowns at a kid bringing cranberry sauce and she interrupts their prayer to start rapping... that's why the other kids had looks of "this is awkward" on their faces. Also, there's no corn... but there's macaroni & cheese. And that fucking turkey is eating ALL THE RIBS that kid brought.

Paramore - "Misguided Ghosts".
One of their slower songs, I think it's beautiful.
It's one of the only two songs I like on Brand New Eyes. Shame too, because their first two albums are really great.
As for myself, Genesis' Selling England By The Pound atm.
DJ Shadow- "Napalm Brain/Scatter Brain"
Pretty cool stuff. Also, they sample "Pon a Hill".
DJ Shadow is awesome.
Steel Panther- "17 Girls in a Row"
I still think they're better than any actual hair metal band.

So you're ambivalent to Rihanna, but do like "Love the Way You Lie" and "Umbrella"?
Huh. ;)

Not really, since I said all her songs sounded the same to me, which naturally means all of her singles(the songs that get radio airplay) because I've never bothered to listen to a full album nor do I care too. If what you say is true and she has had 33 singles in the past, what, seven or eight years, then that tells me that a majority of her songs do sound the same or at the very least similar, because aside from "Umbrella" I maybe could only name two or three other songs that stood out at all, the rest just kind of blend together. Kind of like songs by Nickleback or Linkin Park.
And I kind of messed up your original post somehow(damn iPad). Sorry.

Still ridiculous.
It's the highest selling album of all-time, though. Clearly it's a formula that others want to emulate.
Also, IMO, all the singles from Thriller were excellent.
I don't deny that they were all great tracks, I just think it's kind of self-indulgent to exceed 4 singles with one album.
Three is kind of the perfect amount. That should be enough to last you at least a year of promotion for the album and eventual tour.
If the album does well enough that it's still big on the charts after a few singles, than it should be fine to go beyond, but otherwise I think three is ideal.

You're right on that, but it's important to remember that Wanna Be Startin' Something, P.Y.T., and The Girl Is Mine were radio-only while Billie Jean, Beat It, Human Nature, and Thriller all had videos.
Also take into account that some songs are released as singles overseas and not here and vice-versa sometimes. It's really a label issue and how much they think they can make off of the album.
It depends on the song quality for me. If all those songs the artist releases as singles are genuinely single-worthy, more power to them. Congrats on a fantastic album. If not, well, it reeks of milking.
KISS- "Cold Gin"
Blink-182 - "What's My Age Again?"

Bjork had 6 singles with
Post. Do I think it's self-indulgent? No. Because, #1, music videos. It's an artistry all its' own and what would it be like now if, oh, Madonna hadn't released 5 singles with
True Blue or Michael at least 5 with
Thriller? The videos should be good enough to consider promotion for buying the album alone but they by themselves necessitate the single's physical place in the market for people who don't want to buy the album. (Not to mention I'm a huge music video fan, while I don't care as much for any point that would also argue that we should have less of them.) #2, this is history. And, crap like
Teenage Dream notwithstanding, a great album deserves historical representation with a large number of singles since awards pretty much mean squat now (if they ever meant anything before).

Pop albums are usually pretty scattered. Except for Madonna or Bjork (and maybe Cyndi Lauper), very few artists have ever cared about thematic cohesion and making a strong album. And I know there are quite a few album-people on AR. However, I don't get this "oh, it's just someone like Rihanna whose songs all sound the same." Her songs all sound the same in about as far as literally over 90% of the music artists who have ever received radio play and charted more than 2 singles sound the same. In the ears of people who don't listen or don't care to. I don't expect someone to go to me if they want a report on the nuances of someone like Bob Dylan, the kind of artist I don't listen carefully to. Some people try to take your attitude, that it's the artist and not the listener. It's almost always the listener. Because if a person thinks they have the ear for everything and can fairly judge what artist really defies this rule, they're flattering themselves.
Oh, and...
Was the point of your first reply: "
Why would you be listening to Rihanna?" As in: "
I wouldn't because
I think all her songs sound the same"?
Hmmm...
The only Katy Perry song I can kinda tolerate is "The One That Got Away", because it's the only one where she kind of sounds her age.
"Waking Up in Vegas" is good.
"Teenage Dream" is very good.
"I Kissed a Girl" is a guilty pleasure.
"Hot 'n Cold" is awesome.
After that, she's just a joke as a musician. I believe her talent is as an actress. She's a very engaging and hypnotic screen presence. And I think she can play characters, very well.
She was pretty good on HIMYM.
But Britney was not. Stage presence doesn't always lead to acting skills.

But, does a song even need to be a single to have a music video? Electric Six has quite a few songs with videos that aren't considered singles.
I'm not going to argue that a great album shouldn't have a lot of exposure, but I still think an entire EP's worth of singles from one record is overkill. Though I am a bit of a crotchety old man on this subject, since most of my favorite artists aren't even able to make their songs into singles unless you take that as meaning "free downloads from their website".
Fair enough.

Honestly, I wish more bands had things like this. Neat little box sets that contained a good chunk of their discography. Would certainly save me a shit ton of shelf space.
Is there any new content on any of the albums? I have all of those, and have had them for years. Is the song "I Want To Be Alone" included on 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours? I have the original Lookout print of it(and Kerplunk), but I've heard the Reprise reissues omit that song for whatever reason, it's supposed to be the last song on the album.

Yep. I Want To Be Alone is the final track on my copy. Kerplunk also has bonus tracks from the Sweet Children EP.
As far as I can tell, no actual "new" material, it just fits in all the EP tracks and other ones that would have slipped through the cracks at the ends of the first two albums. Looking through Wikipedia, they all seem pretty complete as far as I can tell.

Now: Information Society - "Hit Me"

Now: Janet Jackson - "Come Back to Me"
Next: Def Leppard - "Hysteria"
After: Huey Lewis & the News - "I Want a New Drug"
TV Rock - Unstoppable (feat. Dick Valentine)
Iron Maiden- "Sign of the Cross"
Wow, that first verse is haunting. What a great opening to an overlooked album.
I actually marathoned a shit-ton of their albums yesterday, most of which was my first time hearing them. Especially loved A Matter Of Life And Death.
AMOLAD is pretty underrated among the post-reunion albums it seems. Many praise Brave New World for being the return to form, a lot like how Dance of Death is so different from their usual work, and the Final Frontier seems to have brought attention back to their newer stuff, but Life and Death is a raw collection of epics that all mostly work.
It also has some of Nicko's best drumming to add to its priase.
Modest Mouse - "Ocean Breathes Salty"
Flogging Molly - Float(the entire album)
Motorhead- "Tales of Glory"
Shinedown - "Heroes"
You know what, I actually like this one... which is weird, because I'm pretty sure I hate like every other song this band has ever done. But this... well, this one's okay.
.45 is a good song. There's a couple other early ones(the ones that are like ten years old now, considering I was in high school when they were out) I like too, but I can't remember their names.
I think "Second Chance" was our class song.
That or "Party in the USA", I forget.
New Order - "True Faith"

The Beatles- "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (reprise)"
You know what comes next.
Jars Of Clay - Liquid
Sodom- "Tired and Red"
Jars Of Clay - Sunny Days

Listening to this album for the first time in years, it used to be such a mainstay every year when I was a kid. I completely forgot U2 sang that one song, I love it so much(despite it being a U2 song).
That's a great one.
I'm also a fan of the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas albums... I should get those out.
But guys, what about Manheim Steamroller?
Iron Maiden- "The Duellists"
The best Christmas song covers:
That Handsome Devil - Mr. Grinch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLSrMlFg3KQ)
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Mr. Heatmiser (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPJjBNa7WYY)
I just heard this for the first time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC1cWrxk_mI), and wow this sucks.
It's a generic, heavily autotuned, cutesy pop single with a chorus that shamelessly rips off 4 Non Blondes. I shouldn't have expected a whole lot more, but she does have a good voice. See? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWtCdee7gS4)
But yeah, this single is the definition of blah.
Can't tell which is worse, the song or the video.
lol.
December (well, in a few hours on the west coast) means it's time for my all-time favorite Christmas song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TFrO8c_kVQ) to go on endless loop for the next month.
I will love this song forever and there is nothing you can do to change that.
Jackie Leven- "Working Alone/A Blessing"
Last: Grace Jones - "Slave to the Rhythm"
Now: The Pixies - "Monkey Gone to Heaven"
Next: R.E.M. - "Radio Free Europe"

She's an idiot too. (Oh, excuse me: the song writer. The content / message of the song is entirely brainless. It might as well be... this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l8wZbqTww0).)
(Guess I'm just trying to win the Worst Song award here.)
Heh, you might be winning.
Black Lotus- "Terra Hiberna"
Blondie - "Rapture"
Iron Maiden- "The Prisoner"
I always remember the episode of Beavis & Butthead where they scream this song in jail with the inmates with the Maiden tattoos when I hear it.
Gorillaz - "Feel Good, Inc."
The Notting Hillbillies - "Will You Miss Me"
David Bickley - "The Leap"
The Pharcyde - "Passin' Me By" (instrumental)
The Aquabats - "Mechanical Ape!"

I swear, like half of Richard Cheese's covers are objectively better than the original songs. Especially Rape Me.
That would imply it being a good song in the first place.
T. Rex - Telegram Sam
His "Chop Suey" cracks me up.
Demi Lovato- "Here We Go Again"
Gorillaz - Dare
Hatchback - Tapir Tango
Iggy Pop - Livin' On the Edge of the Night

Black Sabbath- "Fairies Wear Boots"
Cazwell - "I Seen Beyonce..."
"Forever Autumn" from Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War Of The Worlds.
Rainbow- "Starstruck"
Today has been a very musical day, mostly sticking to my favorites.
Paloma Faith - "Broken Doll"
Strawberry Alarm Clock - "Incense and Peppermints"
Changing from Deep Purple's "Into the Fire" to "Living Wreck".
In Rock's pretty cool.
Green Jelly - "Rock N Roll Pumpkihn"
Morbid Angel- "God of Emptiness"
Kelli Ali - "Speakers"
My guilty pleasure track of 2012. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfM_wS7qYfY)
And probably my #3 choice for best single of 2012, behind GYHAB and "Somebody That I Used to Know".
Kelli Ali - "One Day at a Time"
Queensryche- "Jet City Women"
Have you ever taken the time to just sit down and listen to their lyrics? They are such strong writers. I especially love this bit.
"I look in your eyes, just like the rain
Washing me, rain wash over me"
This is pretty much a love song throughout, like a lot of tracks from the album, but the guitar harmonies tends to hide that from less astute listeners. But what stands out to me is just how they describe her eyes. Obviously they're blue, but Geoff Tate is able to paint this imagery without directly saying that, and compare them to one of rock lyricism's greatest stereotypes- the rain. He does so in a tasteful and believable fashion, especially based off of Tate's performance, and he leads right into the next line, again using rain to describe the scenario, this time his own well-being at seeing his love go away. It's a basic comparison, but done really well in parallel companionship here, like a tag-team act.
Sorry if you found that annoying, but I'm having a Queensryche night. I really want to check them out with their new singer.
ELO - "Strange Magic"
Accept- "Aiming High"
They get a little overlooked from me, but Accept are a very important act in the metal world with a lot of classics such as this.
Floyd - DSOM.
S.O.D.- "Kill Yourself"
John Cougar Mellencamp - "Crumblin' Down"
Amesoeurs- "Heurt"
Genesis - "Misunderstanding"
It's like Phil Collins is narrating my life right now, and I seriously wish he would stop.
Working over my top XXX-many Best Singles of the 80's list, since expanding it to 300- which was harder than I thought. I didn't realize I'd be making so many cuts after I came up with my first 100 list; I have 2 separate lists, one for 1-100 and 101-200. Wound end editing ALL 200 of the previous, switching a lot, kicking 2 off the list (of 300, now) entirely (Living Colour - "Cult of Personality" and Duran Duran - "Planet Earth")... Lot of work. But... I think I'd stand by the list now.
Which I might be posting here pretty soon.
Jet - "Get Me Outta Here"
Tom Waits- "Down, Down, Down"
blink-182 - "Adam's Song"
Rush - Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, and Signals
Once every six months or so, I'll just go on a major Rush kick.
There's a 5-pack for $20 that has the albums from 2112 to Signals aside from Hemispheres that I've been eyeing. The fact that I already own Moving Pictures and it's missing Hemispheres for whatever reason is what's making me have second thoughts about picking it up.
There is a similar Tom Petty 5-pack with some of his 80's albums and Into the Great Wide Open, though. That one I'm definitely considering.
I like Rush more with random songs, the only full album of theirs I really like is Moving Pictures. But that seems like a good deal.
The W's - Rather Be Dead
That's... really odd that they'd leave Hemispheres out of there. No La Villa Strangiato, no sale. :unimpressed:
Seriously though, it might be a nice pick up, both of them. Not for me, but maybe for you, as I'm a massive stickler for having albums together by release date in sets like these. Was the only reason I bought the Green Day one. I do know that they were releasing box sets for the Rush albums the same way they did with Genesis back in 2007/2008, but those are probably much more expensive.
Tom Petty fucking rules. The Heartbreakers were a band I heard all the time when I grew up, so their music is almost ingrained into me. Guy makes music that you can always go to when you can't decide what to go to.
Petty's music really seems eternal. While most other classic acts will receive derision or the raise of an eyebrow when mentioned in high regards over time, I don't think his stuff has ever been out of vogue in any way, about as much so as the Beatles.
They also had packs for Lynyrd Skynyrd, KISS, and Marvin Gaye. Rush and Petty are the most appealing to me since they're the only two that don't have any greatest hits compilations (seriously, I swear that Gaye's has 2 or 3 of them, as well as a live album. Only What's Going On is a legit LP). KISS is especially annoying since it has the first 4 albums and a greatest hits. If they replaced that with Alive!, I'd be more inclined to get it. I'm not even much of a fan anymore, but at least I'd have them for a good price.
My only issue with Skynyrd as that I only really think the first two are classics. The rest of their material is very song by song basis, and I don't think the songwriting ever reached the heights of songs like Simple Man or Tuesday's Gone again.
If they included the first two albums, a live album, and a best of (and maybe their last album), then I'd say it would be totally worth it.

Paradise Lost- "Honesty in Death"
Oh, and that Rush set I mentioned earlier? I was wrong, it's not even really in order. They swapped out Permanent Waves for Fly by Night, for whatever reason. And that's the other album I need the most, so blah.
Genesis - "The Silent Sun"
Pig Destroyer- "Heathen Temple"
Lesbian Bed Death - "I Use My Powers for Evil"
Van Halen- "Take Your Whiskey Home"
Probably their best song.
Speaking of... Van Halen - "Finish What Ya Started"
Yeah yeah, I know this is technically "Van Hagar" or what have you, but it's still a good song.
Repulsion- "Acid Bath"
Best grindcore band ever, even if they only lasted one album to prove it.
Silverchair - "Shade"
Madcap - Lovesick
I don't usually listen to such bands anymore, but this song has such nostalgia attached to it for some reason.
Motley Crue- "Knock 'Em Dead Kid"
Semisonic - "Closing Time"
All things considered, totally appropriate.
Charli XCX - Nuclear Seasons
Quote from: Kiddington on December 08, 2012, 08:18:10 PM
Strawberry Alarm Clock - "Incense and Peppermints"
Now there's a coincidence. I just added that to my Sana Fuze player this week.
"Naiads" and "Big Old Moon Over All of Us" by The Verbrilli Sound. I bought the tracks "Cansada" and "The Sultans of Schwing" by them months ago. I'm really starting to get into them.
Some Alan Parson's Project this morning.
"Breakdown"
"Genesis Ch. 1 V. 32"
"Sirius"
"Eye In The Sky"
Nas- "NY State of Mind"
Tori Amos / Y Kant Tori Read - "The Happy Worker"
(Tori before she became famous, doing a song with her band that was eventually used in that odd Robin Williams' movie, Toys)
Big Star- "Life is White"
The Wiseguys - "Start the Commotion"
Another guilty pleasure... but hey, at least it's fun. :P

Death- "Cosmic Sea"

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the first album and most of their material up to Our House. Madness just had a breezy pop quality to them that I found irresistible. Our House is a really good pop song, but I don't think it's quite up to par with their other singles.
Yeah, I was playing the first album yesterday. It's quite good, but "Our House" doesn't really compare to what's on it.
Paramore - "That's What You Get"
Public Enemy- "Bring the Noise"
Santana ft. Rob Thomas - "Smooth"
In retrospect, a rather overplayed song by this point... but still good.
It's one of my least favorite songs of all time. "Overplayed" is just putting it mildly.
This post (http://www.avclub.com/articles/mastodons-brent-hinds-hates-santanas-smooth,90403/) makes me laugh.
Even though I like the song, and totally hate Mastodon.
Eh. You know, I can see why someone wouldn't like it (it is overplayed, and Rob Thomas can be pretty derisive for some people), but calling it worse than "Moves Like Jagger" is just... :wth:
But whatever. I think it's a decent song, so what do I know? :awesome:
"Hated Songs" is a really fun feature. There's one person who nails "Imagine" perfectly, among others if you check them out.
Imagine is definitely a song that gets too much praise for what it says.
On that note... I think I'll go find a Matchbox 20 CD.
No Doubt - "Hey Baby"
Sometimes I just can't help myself.
lol
Slint- "Breadcrumb Trail"
Gillan- "Men of War"
I actually never listened to much of his solo stuff, but after discovering that Janick Gers played on this album, I knew that I had to dig it up. The music is great, but the lyrics are pretty cheesy overall.

Also Stan Getz.
Radiohead- "Kid A"
This is their best album. It's still pretty meh overall.
High & Dry is really the only song of theirs I dig even after trying so hard to "get" them.
Ok Computer is probably the second or third most overrated album of the 90s, IMO.
I'd say it's the first.
What would you say the other 2 are? Or, the one other than Nevermind?
I was going to say The Chronic, but I can't remember if that was the late 80s or not.
It was. I like that album, but hey, my other most overrated 90's LP is Morning Glory, so... :P
Over Definitely Maybe? I can't agree. :thinkin:
They're both eh. ;)
Now I'm on "Idioteque", which is probably my favorite song on the album. I still don't hear the krautrock influence on this, though.
Well, I'm not the biggest fan of gangsta rap, so you can see why I'd list it. Though I'd probably list Pinkerton, too.
Rust in Peace, Focus, Sleep's Holy Mountain and Painkiller- the 4 best of the 90's
Iron Maiden- "Rainmaker"
Got bored near the end of Kid A and put on Dance of Death instead. Much better call.
I would go with Low End Theory.
I'm also growing on the little known album called Superstar by, well, they're called Superstar.
You're both making me very, very sad. :(
And In Rainbows is loads better than Kid A.
Sorry man, but I really did try hard. I just could never get into them.
I'll give you that most of the albums are half-good, half-crap, and that I never saw the big deal about The Bends.
Neither did I, I really only like that one song from it. I honestly thought it was way better than Creep- I never understood why that song got so much attention.
Because it's a really good song. :wth:
:awesome:
But I do enjoy that song.
Street Spirit's the only one from The Bends that I really love. So deliciously depressing.
The King Of Limbs was absolute shit though. You can't do minimalism, Radiohead. Please stahp.

Well, if you wrote a bunch of music you were proud of, and people only showed up at your shows for that one song, and then left immediately afterward, you might resent that song too. :P
I guess that's what happened with that Gotye guy and Somebody That I Used To Know too.
It definitely happened with A Flock of Seagulls and "I Ran".
Man, Gotye has some cool stuff though. If anyone should have been a one hit wonder this year, it should've been that Carly Rae Jepsen bitch. She should have left Owl City in music limbo with her as well.
That's why one hit wonders close with the hit. It saves the embarrassment.

One of those days.
Dexter Gordon- "Don't Explain"
This is pretty much the range of what I've been listening to lately.

Can't stand this song.
Metallica- "...And Justice for All"
Whenever I come back to their music, the first thing that hits me is how bloated it is. There's no reason this had to be 9 minutes longs. The band could've easily kept their original intention if they cut a couple of segways out and reduced some repeat riffs.
But nope, that's not the Metallica way! Bigger is always better. Even when it's not.
Not a single track on Master of Puppets is under five minutes in length. Not one.
Bloated indeed.
"Bloated" is probably the best descriptor of Metallica there is. If James sounded high-pitched, they would be the art school snobs' favorite band.
Mountain - "Nantucket Sleighride"
The Black Keys - "Lonely Boy"
Agalloch- "...And the Great Cold Death of the Earth"
ELO - "Calling America"
Agalloch- "Fire Above, Ice Below"
Second time I've listened to this album today. Yep, still good.
Sorting through internet Top 100 lists of the 90's in preparation for (finally) doing my Top 100 Singles of the 90's. I had to actually look up a few. For example... never heard Weezer's "Say It Ain't So" before. And I've never listened to "Protect Ya Neck" all the way through. Or "Rosa Parks." And it's been a million years since I actually sat through "Sabotage."
What I've been going through the last hour (for research, I haven't decided what will make my list):
R.E.M. - "Losing My Religion"
Blackstreet - "No Diggity"
Coolio - "Gangsta's Paradise"
Matthew Sweet - "Girlfriend"
Julee Cruise - "Falling"
Bone Thugs n Harmony - "Tha Crossroads"
CJ Bolland - "Sugar is Sweeter"
LL Cool J - "Hey Lover"
Alice in Chains - "Would?"
Sinead O'Connor - "Nothing Compares 2 U"
Destiny's Child - "Bills, Bills, Bills"
Nine Inch Nails - "The Perfect Drug"
Robin S. - "Show Me Love"
EDIT (2:00 PM, the next day):
Just added up my preliminary "to choose from" playlist I've assembled of my favorite and (what I feel are) the better songs of the decade. The first "cutdown" list from which I will choose my top tracks... it totals 930. Something tells me choosing 300 out of this (to match my 80's singles list) will be a bitch.
Fleetwood Mac- "Tusk"
This song's been stuck in my head ever since its use in The Americans last night. Pretty keen new show, btw.
I'm currently listening to Modeselektor feat. Miss Platnum - Berlin
"Drug food food, drug food food"
It's awfully catchy O0
Whittling down my 930 list to... 475. Or, I'm in the process of doing that. I have about 17 left to choose in the remaining bulk list of 166.
Right now I'm taking a closer listen to:
Nine Inch Nails - "Piggy"
Cibo Matto - "Know Your Chicken"
Lords of Acid - "Pussy" and "Rough Sex"
Hooverphonic - "Eden"
Smashing Pumpkins - "Zero"
Seal - "Don't Cry"
Aqua - "Doctor Jones"
The Wiseguys - "Start the Commotion"
Ja Rule - "Holla Holla"
Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies - "Boogie King"
Madonna - "Deeper and Deeper"
Cake - "Sheep Go to Heaven"
Soundgarden - "Spoonman"
Salt-N-Pepa - "Let's Talk About Sex"
Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Give It Away" and "Show Me Your Soul"
Tori Amos - "Jackie's Strength"
The Verve - "Sonnet"
Sonic Youth - "The Diamond Sea" and "Kool Thing"
Blur - "Parklife"
Dave Matthews Band - "Satellite" and "Typical Situation"
Lenny Kravitz - "Are You Gonna Go My Way"
Rednex - "Cotton Eye Joe"
Toni Braxton - "You Mean the World to Me"
and
Babes in Toyland - "House"
Do you have any Type O in your schedule, or is that off of the grid?
This is the first moment they popped in my head. I'm either going to have to add them to my Blind Spots list or spend 30 minutes doing research on 'em.

EDIT:
I've decided to extend the count to 500 to make room for Type O if I find anything I think is worthy. What spurred this decision? It's certainly not the obscene amount of Ace of Base on my list or anything like that. (Uh... I've got to go.)
Have room for one more song? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZLv2G0Hhn4) Easily my favorite of their 90's singles, but "Holy Smoke" is worth a listen, as well.
Actually, I'd also recommend checking out Bruce's solo singles from the decade. He put out a lot of good stuff.
I'll get the MP3 and put it in the mix. (I currently have room for 8.) (Oh, and Iron Maiden had a track on my original cutdown list for my top 300 singles of the 80's list - "Run for the Hills.")
Interesting thing about that video... one of their shooting locations is UNMISTAKABLY one of the locations in a scene from one of my Top 100 horror films.

Yep yep.
While we're at it, did you know that Queensryche's "Silent Lucidity" has sound clips from the sequel?
I hate Hellbound. So much, in fact, that I'd consider Bloodline superior (aka, in fan circles: the one in space).
I liked Hellbound when it attempted to make up for certain events in Hellraiser, but it totally lost me by the end.
I haven't seen any of the others, so I can't comment.
The third film is the best in my opinion. Mainly because it doesn't fuck with the storyline of the first movie or try to continue it. And it's visually more pleasing and has an excellent extending city-in-chaos ending that is insanely fun. Kirsty only shows up for 1 minute on VHS footage the TV reporter digs up.
After that, things get pretty stupid very quickly. The 4th film is terrible but I wouldn't describe it as painful. The fifth film was a script for a completely different film that the Weinstein brothers had changed to include Pinhead in the last 30 minutes. Shockingly, it's not bad until the last 30 minutes. Then it's the 2nd worst movie in the franchise. The sixth film seems like it has the same exact problem - the story not being about Pinhead, so it feels like he doesn't fit. Kirsty comes back here and is given a wildly insane revenge plot for which she actually calls Pinhead intentionally and they make a completely closed-case deal. In that: there's no "but we want you to stay and play with us" ending, Pinhead takes her offering and she goes along her merry way. That part of the movie works the best. The seventh film is easily the worst. Every moment is indescribably awful. The eight film is standard run-of-the-mill bad. Only, it's noteworthy for trying to bring back the 90's teen style of horror films. I guess Cursed was more popular than I remember it being.
EDIT:
Going through Type O Negative's singles right now. First one out the gate made my list.
Bruno Mars- "Locked Out of Heaven"
Yeah, this is okay.
TLC - Waterfalls
J Church- "Overconfident"
Finally have 1/5th of my final set list for the top 500, and gathered the cover art for all the singles #1-100. 400 left (and, Type O Negative will be in the total list twice). It is freaking insane how long ordering them around takes... and today I just re-ordered my already stoned 100. Of course, in doing that, I wound up kicking a few off and replacing them. Hell, I probably spent 40 minutes just deciding how high the highest Madonna should chart. It didn't take 1 minute to decide what #11 would be. And then... I actually went on an insane search for a single cover for my #31 that took me almost half an hour. I ended up literally melding 2 pics together (one was just the CD, the other was the same color and font as the cover and I detest single covers that are taken from the same photo shoot as the album cover: I'm looking at you, Jay-Z). I think the total count of singles for the artist who made my top 100 the most times is 6.
Right now, I'm headed off to negotiate the other lists... even though I really should eat something, my stomach is growling like a monster (but this is how obsessive I am about these things). Sheryl Crow is playing now.
Listening to some Johnny Cash.
Lucinda Williams- "Crescent City"
See, I like country.
Quote from: Avaitor on February 02, 2013, 08:00:57 PMLucinda Williams- "Crescent City"

I said the same thing when I was listening to "Rosa Parks."
Kongh- "Essence Asunder"
Jack Johnson - "Flake"
Going through #101-200. Been at it since 9 am now but I'm getting pretty close. The middle takes the longest. Type O Negative's highest ranking song kept getting bumped higher until... it wound up in the top 100.
I haven't been wanting to say who I've been listening to as to keep some surprise of who made it and who didn't (because I'm thinking of debuting the finished list here, if there's any interest- though I admit I don't mind using this thread as a kind of Twitter for random updates) but... "Cannonball" is playing right now. It's no secret, that song is on everyone's list (with good reason, of course).
DC Talk - Mind's Eye
Candlemass- "The Well of Souls"
Johnny Cash - Man in Black
Run DMC - "Rock Box"
Marty Robbins - "Their Hanging Me Tonight"
Freddie Mercury - Fooling Around
Ok Go - "Do What You Want"
Snoop Dogg & Wiz Kahalifa- "Young, Wild and Free"
Yeah.
The Beatles - Lady Madonna
Minutemen- "Viet Nam"
Tim Myers ft. Lindsey Ray - "Brand New Day"
AKA the Target song from like five years ago. I still love it, though.
Freddie Mercury - There Must be More to Life
His solo stuff is so cheesy but I just love him.
Bruce Dickinson- "Accident of Birth"
This album is always great to spin at any given time.
Taking a break from my 90's list (almost done, the first part will be up on Mubi by Monday) and listening to Beyonce's "Diva," as it made Todd in the Shadows' Worst of 2009 list.
I've heard worse.
Didn't "If I Were a Boy" top that list? Or was that 2010?
Nuclear Assault- "Inherited Hell"
Quote from: Avaitor on February 08, 2013, 05:57:33 PMDidn't "If I Were a Boy" top that list? Or was that 2010?
Nope. It was the first of 3 Beyonce songs in the list, at #9.
Ghost- "Secular Haze"
Definitely growing on me. Full album, please come soon.
The Black Keys - "Just Got to Be"
Toxic Holocaust- "In the Name of Science"
Paramore - "Brick by Boring Brick"
Incantation- "Blasphemous Cremation"
Devo- "Gates of Steel"
MxPx - Destroyed By You
This and Southbound are a great closing pair.
Depeche Mode - "Home"
Genghis Tron- "Board up the House"
Shut up.

Anyone remember this?
Johnossi - "Happiness a la Mode"
Michael Jackson- "Give In to Me"
Dangerous is a weird album.
Steven Wilson - "Luminol"
This song's giving me a musical boner! :worship:
TLC - Creep
Trying to listen to some binaural music in the hope that it'll get my mind focused. Probably won't, but here's trying.
Creep is a great song.
Deftones - "Be Quiet and Drive(Far Away)".
Lola Ray - "Automatic Girl"

Finally finished my Top 500 Singles of the 90's list. Mubi.com doesn't allow me enough text to fit all 500 in one list, so I had to split it up to 3:

http://mubi.com/lists/my-top-500-greatest-singles-of-the-1990s-part-3-100-1
I'll have to check that out.
UFO- "Rock Bottom"
Man, I forgot just how good Schenker's work sounds on this album. It's only his first with the band, his second period, and it was just lightyears ahead of what everyone else was doing at the time.
;D
Gorillaz - "Clint Eastwood"
#1 is an absolute classic, I must say.
And how do you feel that Type O song compares to the original?
It's been so long since I heard it but, it clearly doesn't have the same moodiness and atmosphere of TON's cover.
Neil Young - Comes A Time
Atlas Genius - When It Was Now
Playing around with my 90's playlist. Just for fun, getting some more songs. Things just jumping in my head. (This whole started really because I like to play 90's video games to songs from the decade.)
For example, playing right now is Brandy's "Top of the World." I haven't heard that song in over 14 years. Not a great song but it's always nice to hear a song again after it's been so long. And, it's not really bad by any measure. Incredibly routine. And, speaking of forgotten lite jams... now a replay of Monica's "Angel of Mine" is inevitable. But I'm not going after "Gone Til November." Never liked that one. Next on the list is Flipmode Squad - "Cha Cha Cha."
Update: Now I'm listening to Monica's Space Jam ballad, "For You I Will." I never knew she wanted to be Michael Jackson.
The Cult- "Fire Woman"
Obvious reasons.
Last songs listened to:
Eternal - "Angel of Mine" (Monica's song was a cover!!)
Flipmode Squad - "Everybody on the Line Outside"
Notorious B.I.G. - "One More Chance" (Album Version)
Massive Attack - "Karmacoma"
Juvenile - "U Understand"
Blaze Bayley- "While You Were Gone"
Any argument that the guy can't sing should be shattered whenever this song is played.
K's Choice - "I Smoke a Lot"
(I was going to try and tie this one in with #5 in the Song Titles Game thread but I couldn't find proof that it was a single, even though it spawned a music video.)
Also, on same note: Ben Lee - "Cigarettes Will Kill You"
Demi Lovato- "Heart Attack"
This actually came out a week earlier than it was supposed to, but it's already #1 in at least 9 different countries right now, including the US. The opening is kinda weak, but the song picks up almost immediately after, even if I can't say that it's a favorite yet. The use of guitar is very welcome, and Demi's voice is as strong as ever.
We'll probably get the video on the 4th, which is when we were supposed to get the song itself. I'll post it when it comes out to get a reaction from you guys, if you care.
"Driven Under" - Seether.
Reminds me of high school, same with the song "Cold" by Crossfade, a song I listened to the other day for the first time since then.
Fleetwood Mac- "I'm So Afraid"
See, I can listen to more than just Demi. :P
"Sra Mouy Keo" - Ros Sereysothea
T. Rex- "Debora" (Live at BBC)
Collective Soul - "Where the River Flows"
Been listening to a lot of Jabberloop recently. Truly excellent jazz/fusion group from Japan. Mighty disappointed that they haven't released a new album since 2010.
Linkin Park - "Breaking the Habit"
This is probably the only Linkin Park song that I actually kinda like. Well, I dunno... "like" might be a little much. It's okay.
Faith No More- "Easy"
... I just found out that the women in this video are drag queens. Huh.
Iron Maiden - The X Factor
Morbid Angel- "Chapel of Ghouls"
Weezer - "Pink Triangle"
Neurosis- "My Heart for Deliverance"
Okay, this was the best album of last year.
The Donnas - "Who Invited You"
MxPx - Under Lock & Key
I'm Listening to:
Vitalic - Stamina (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0g10GfWUFU)
Fleetwood Mac- "Never Going Back Again"
This is probably my favorite song on the album. What's yours?
The Hippos - Irie
Just got the damn 90's nostalgia bite, again, HARD (what's on my playlist now):
PJ Harvey - "A Perfect Day Elise"
Sonic Youth - "Dirty Boots," "Sunday," "100%"
Letters to Cleo - "I See (Demo Version)," "I See (Original 1993 Album Version)" (there is yet a 3rd version of the song, which turned up on the Jawbreaker soundtrack)
Sonic Youth - "Superstar," "Little Trouble Girl," "Sugar Kane"
Annihilator- "Imperiled Eyes"
Nine Inch Nails - "Starfuckers, Inc."
Iron Maiden- "Innocent Exile"
It's Steve's birthday, so I'm listening to one of his best basslines.
More 90's- I'm stuck... free me! Oh, no, wait: the decade was pretty damn fine musically. Though I seem to be currently surfing the novelty end of it.
Starting with a selection of Tales from the Crypt episode scores and the "Crypt Jam," which was so popular that... there was a sequel - also in my playlist - "Christmas Rap." Which, along with some dialogue from the lousy season 6 episode "The Pit," inspired an entire album of Christmas songs by The Cryptkeeper. I'm not kidding (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCT_Kq31Ug4).
Also, like an idiot, I played Ferngully's "Batty Rap" again after blasting it on UD. Ever listened to the lyrics? It's actually trying to be a commentary on animal testing.
Fugazi- "Break"
Rihanna - "Where Have You Been"
(Told ya. Still marveling at how insanely, genuinely replayable and enjoyable it is. This one will go down in the history books, and the good word will outweigh the bad.)
Toad the Wet Sprocket - "Woodburning"
The new David Bowie album, The Next Day.
And it's pretty damn good. :swoon:
More 90's... yet again. What's on the list:
Shonen Knife - "Top of the World"
Jimmy's Chicken Shack - "Dropping Anchor"
Jay-Z - "Nigga What, Nigga Who"
Butthole Surfers - "Pepper," "Jingle of a Dog's Collar," & "Who Was in My Room Last Night"
Handsome Boy Modeling School - "Magnetizing" & "Rock N' Roll (Could Never Hip-Hop Like This)"
Janet Jackson - "You Want This"
The Bronx- "Style over Everything"
This used to be a punk band. Not so much anymore. And I'm fine with that.
Its St. Patrick's Day so I'm listening to Enya.
Kyuss- "Demon Cleaner"
Kinda doin' a really short down-the-decades music-thon. Just 3 or so songs per decade. Whatever occurs to me (for whatever reason, this was the 80's: "Greatest Love of All," "Doctor! Doctor!", and "Master and Servant").
And, by chance, I decided to re-listen to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the first time in well over a decade. I think it was like 1998 when I actually last heard the entire song, and... it really is awful, isn't it? Yet, I still think the band's other major singles were phenomenal. I really think this song was made "legendary" by the music video, which is great. But... so was "Heart Shaped Box," which was a lot more gut-wrenching a song.
Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death
Can't get enough of this one.
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - "Beat the Time"
Overkill- "Overkill"
It's been so long that I played their first album, that I forgot that they had a song that shares the same name as the band. I always thought that they were named after the Motorhead song and album, but this doesn't sound anything like that one at all.
Outkast - "Prototype"
Yeah, I don't understand how people can't at least respect her. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS5Sr-LLES4) She sounds even better when you're there.
Iron Maiden - Rock In Rio
Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Maiden England '88 rereleases on Tuesday! :joy:
Acid Bath- "Paegan Love Song"

...someone clearly needs rubber pants.
Well now I have Fear of the Dark on, so I don't.
You know that Maiden is the one thing that matters more to me than Demi (give or take HIMYM), but I can't really defend this album.
It's a shit ton better than No Prayer For The Dying, at least.

Very true! No Prayer has like 3 songs I like, while Fear has six. Out of twelve, but still.
Clutch- "Crucial Velocity"
Now I'm onto their new album, and I'm really digging it thus far. I can't believe these guys opened for Nickelback at one point.
More 90's... And I've realized something: Brandy... is someone I keep being very grateful to come across randomly. My playlist isn't exactly on Shuffle but a lot of these songs I didn't know well in the 90's so, the order is very much like shuffle. I'm playing her contribution to the Batman Forever soundtrack, "Where Are You Now?" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVn6awWY1LU) and... it gets my seal of approval.

Still, I don't think Maiden's made a
bad album. I still find plenty to like on every one. At worst, they're okay. And even then, not even No Prayer or Fear are my least favorite, believe it or not. They're both in my bottom 3 though.
I went on a splurge on Friday, and bought Rock In Rio, Flight 666 and En Vivo!, so I've been digging into those.
What's your least favorite then? Personally, I think the Blaze era is underrated.
I actually really like The X Factor and Virtual XI (barring The Angel And The Gambler chorus x9000). Songs like Sign Of The Cross and The Educated Fool are fantastic. My least favorite is Powerslave. Which is apparently blasphemy to the hardcore IM fans, but I think that after the first two (great) tracks, the middle of the album drags, and I've never been able to get into Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. Not a bad record, but very bland compared to the other 80s stuff and the one I least go back to overall.
Man, I dunno, there are so few albums I can listen to from start to finish and not get sick of, no matter how many times I've heard it.
Even with Maiden, only Powerslave and the post-revival albums do that for me.
The only albums I can do that with Maiden are Brave New World and A Matter Of Life And Death. You're right though. Very few albums I can genuinely sit through all the way without it feeling like a chore.
Don't know what to tell you though, man. I've sat through every studio album and Powerslave just does the least for me. But like I said, it's not a bad album at all. Personally, my top 5 goes
5. Somewhere In Time
4. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
3. The Final Frontier
2. Brave New World
1. A Matter Of Life And Death
I feel like IM is one of the few bands from the 60s/70s/80s that has only gotten better the further on they get in their career.
I'm bored enough, so I'll make a list of IM songs that I tend to skip or get bored of per album:
Iron Maiden:
Sanctuary
Strange World
Iron Maiden (original studio recording- live is stronger)
Killers:
Prodigal Son
The Number of the Beast:
Invaders
Run to the Hills (mehhhhhhh)
Gangland
Total Eclipse
Piece of Mind:
Flight of Icarus
Still Life
... "Quest of Fire" is a guilty pleasure, sue me. :P
Powerslave:
Honestly, none. Well, "2 Minutes to Midnight" and "Losfer Words" aren't big favorites, but I do very much enjoy them.
Somewhere in Time:
Sea of Madness
Heaven Can Wait
Alexander the Great (my vote for their most overrated song)
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son:
Can I Play With Madness?
The Prophecy
No Prayer for the Dying:
Tailgunner
Fates Warning
The Assassin
Hooks in You
Bring Your Daughter... To the Slaughter
Fear of the Dark:
From Here to Eternity
Fear is the Key
Chains of Misery
The Apparition
Weekend Warrior
The X-Factor:
Lord of the Flies
Look for the Truth
Judgement of Heaven
The Unbeliever
Virtual XI:
The Angel and the Gambler
When Two Worlds Collide
Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger
Brave New World:
The Fallen Angel
The Nomad
Dance of Death:
Wildest Dreams
Gates of Tomorrow
New Frontier
Age of Innocence
A Matter of Life and Death:
The Pilgrim (if I want to be generous)
The Final Frontier:
The Talisman
There really aren't as many duds as I'd expect. If I tried this with someone else with a discography this big like AC/DC or even Bowie, I'd probably come out with a much longer list. And those last two albums are pretty close to perfect. Not bad.
If I did that with AC/DC, I'd have one hell of a long list. I own every AC/DC album, and I can count on both hands how many songs I still regularly listen to by them.
I think they peaked with Let There Be Rock to Highway to Hell. Those three albums contain their highest amount of memorable songs and a lot of the band's best performances, way above their earlier stuff.
Back in Black still has some strong performances, but that's the last album I'd even consider playing all the way through.
Agreed. Overall, AC/DC repeated themselves way too much, but Back In Black had the most memorable tunes. Everything after that was just them trying to catch lightning twice, and failing.
Jars Of Clay - Disappear
You know I'm not all that big on Christian music for being so obvious with their lyrics, but man these guys are so good both sonically and lyrically.
Genesis - "Land of Confusion"
Youtube comments, man. Shouldn't even take three guesses as to where I'm going on this.
Are Disturbed still a thing?

Anyway, I'm actually hopping in the way-back machine... to... not the 90's... not the 80's... The... 70's! Yep, it's about time to do my Top 100 Singles of the...70's list. I'm screening right now and have culled a list from various Top 100 of each year list. I'm currently weeding through singles specifically by Ohio Players, O'Jays, Cher, Jethro Tull, Abba, Stevie Wonder, Heart, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Kansas, Steve Miller Band, Fleetwood Mac, Helen Reddy, and Elton John.
I guess I need more work... ;D

Hmm. Well, Disturbed were one of the last of the nu metal acts to still be around with some amount of success, so I'm not too surprised that they took a step or two back.
I'm not calling them out yet, though. If Fall Out Boy can come back from their "indefinite hiatus" despite a long history of the band proving this to be highly unlikely, we haven't seen the rest of Draiman and group just yet.
I think he put them on hiatus because he didn't like what's going on in the industry right now and wants to take a "wait and see" approach.
At the very least, Draiman's got a side band keeping him busy right now. I haven't any interest in it, but they wouldn't shut up about it on their Facebook page a month or two back.
Speaking of nu metal, did you know that Limp Bizkit are on Young Money now?
As if you needed more reason to hate that label.
It's okay, I don't even know what that is.

Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake.
Anyway, Grave- "Now and Forever"
The Strokes - Comedown Machine
Nails "Wide Open Wound"
This new album of theirs is basically an EP- less than 20 minutes long, but it's grindcore, so a shorter running time is bliss. It's really brutal, too, even though this is one of the slower songs. Still has a huge slaughter of riffage, though.
The Vines - "Autumn Shade"
The Mountain Goats- "Thank You Mario, But Our Princess is in Another Castle"
This one is literally about Toad. Have you heard it? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnbYyTlz1Tw) You should.
Gold Fields - Black Sun
Pretty awesome for a debut album. Reminds me of a dancier Atlas Genius.
Prince- "If I Was Your Girlfriend"
Fuck, this is funky.
Modest Mouse - "Custom Concern"
"I Know You Too Well To Like You Anymore" -- Reel Big Fish
Beck - "Cellphone's Dead"
Pelican- "Autumn into Summer"
In hindsight, his isn't really metal at all. Doesn't mean that it's not fantastic shit, though. Decibel voted it as the album of the year when it came out, and U concur.
Back to the 90's, a-gin'. To go through some songs and artists I think need a 2nd look (from me).
After "Change" and "You Showed Me," I was pretty excited to get to know The Lightning Seeds better... yeah, they suck. I flipped through at least a dozen other singles and not one of them was great. Among them "All I Want," "Ready or Not," and "Marvellous" are the most tolerable.
After "Hand in Your Head" (which I highly recommend), I was also pretty intrigued about... who is Money Mark? Well, he's kinda dull. After "Hand," "Cry" is his best track. It's definitely decent. "Maybe I'm Dead" is awful and "Insects Are All Around Us" is just extremely lite-Avalanches and Handsome Boy Modeling School. Speaking of HBMS, I went diving for more of their singles and found a couple of great ones. Both are recommended: "Magnetizing" and "Rock 'N Roll (Could Never Hip Hop Like This)."
Except for what I've heard on Scrubs (the aughts) and Slacker (the 80's), I actually had no idea what Butthole Surfers really were. An MP3 search of "Pepper" tells me it was used in the OST for The Hangover. That one is okay. "Who Was in My Room Last Night" is equally almost-fun. Just decent. The one that really struck me was "Jingle of a Dog's Collar." Always have the urge to replay that and have listened to it at least 3 times in the last 24 hours.
Speaking of soundtracks, I nearly keeled over when I remembered that I lost my original MP3 of the theme from Run, Lola Run, "Wish (Komm Zu Mir)" by Franka Potente. Of course, hearing it again reveals it was never that great. Don't know why I held it in such high regard. Thomas D's rap is every bit as irritating as Pitbull is. In general.
Also relevant to soundtracks, since I don't know if it's on an original album and which that would be, I snagged a copy of Shonen Knife's cover of "Top of the World" from the OST of The Last Supper (1995, Cameron Diaz, Bill Paxton, Ron Perlman). Which plays during the end credits- a real shock to the system since it directly follows one of the most horrifying scenes I've ever seen in cinema history. But a great track on its' own.
Last soundtrack but the second I found this amazing MP3 site, I began raiding it for the most obscure, hard to find stuff I could think of. First thing that came to mind was 1991's Nothing but Trouble. I already have "Bonestripper" left over from the Illegal-Napster days (on a very, very old burned CD- from back when I was still in high school). None of the other tracks are that great. What I really recommend is a score piece that never made it onto the soundtrack- "Helen Claire" by Michael Kamen which... may (or may not?) be from the score to Terry Gilliam's Brazil (which he composed). And some other tracks, oldies that didn't make it onto the soundtrack- "Garden in the Rain" and "Wabash Cannonball." I wanted to hear "Atlantic City (is a Party Town)" the most since it plays directly before the Mister Bonestripper sequence. Ehhhh. "La Chanka" is a little more fun. And then... Digital Underground did a version of "Tie the Knot" (a riff on the ultra-famous "Here Comes the Bride"). That's a novelty worth investing in, by virtue of how instantly ridiculous it is.
No idea who Ass Ponys are but "Little Bastard"s been kicking around in my head for years. The only part I knew was "little bastaaaaaard." Anyway, it's okay.
Ben Lee's "Cigarettes Will Kill You" is really growing on me too. Originally, it just sat there and I thought "ehhhh."
more later.
Judge- "The Storm"
Paramore's new self-titled album. It's... terrible. I don't know if Hayley or the new guy are writing the songs since the Farros left, but these songs are awful. Except for "Part II", which actually sounds even better than some of the old stuff.
Funny how a song about moving on manages to spew enough bile at whoever they're moving on from (gee, I wonder who) that it makes the song seem redundant. This record's crap. I don't mind a band changing its sound at all, but the songs themselves just aren't good.
We still have a long year to go for music, but this one's in the running for my Most Disappointing Album Of The Year category, a title held in 2012 by The Fray's Scars And Stories and in 2011 by Incubus' If Not Now, When?
I don't even know if I'd consider Incubus albums disappointing anymore. Last one I liked was Make Yourself. Really miss their old sound.
Funny, AllMusic gave their new album 4 1/2 songs and call it revolutionary or something like that.
Graveyard- "Slow Motion Countdown"
It's one of those divisive albums. You either love it or you hate it. Unless you're not really a fan. Then you can be indifferent.
Sounds like me. I don't care for Paramore at all, personally.
Graveyard- "20/20 (Tunnel Vision)"
Wow, how did I not hear this album last year? It's out of this world! I need to listen to their previous one again ASAP.
Jars Of Clay - Trouble Is

AllMusic sometimes misses the boat entirely. I actually enjoyed Morning View but to an extent and that was it for me.
Morning View's just as good as S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Make Yourself to me, personally. A Crow Left Of The Murder and Light Grenades definitely aren't as great, but I still consider them pretty good albums.
The last one's the one where I think they lost their fucking minds. It's one thing to try and make an album of more chilled out music, but when none of the songs themselves are any interesting, what's the point? The only song I really love from those sessions, "Rebel Girls", isn't even on the album! It was a Best Buy-exclusive bonus track on last year's live album. When I heard it, I was astonished they didn't include the song.
Iron Maiden- "Infinite Dreams"
I'm willing to give Incubus the benefit of the doubt as, IMO, their last album was the only one so far that was truly "bad" (everything before that had some at least redeeming qualities, and I actually really like Light Grenades).
This isn't like, say, Our Lady Peace, who hasn't done anything but churn out forgettable garbage for the better part of 10 years. Man, Gravity is still such a terrible album.
Trouble- "Bastards Will Pay"
In other news, I listened to the black album for the first time in years earlier today. Still sucks.
I'm starting to think myself and Nel have polar opposite taste.
I heard most of the new Paramore album and I really liked it. I'm also not much of a Paramore fan and haven't enjoyed a full album by them.

Eh, different strokes (https://animationrevelation.com/DifferentStrokes.jpg).
EDIT: That said, I think the song "Part II" trumps most of their early songs. It's a real great track.
Iron Maiden- "Revelations" from Live After Death
Perfect rendition of a seriously perfect song. As much as I love Janick, I do kind of miss having Bruce come out and play the rhythm with Dave and Adrian. Hell, I wish they'd bring this one out more regularly.
Paramore - Ain't It Fun
I'm really digging this one in particular. It's not a sound you hear too often on pop radio these days.
Deftones - "My Own Summer (Shove It)"
Rest in peace, Chi. :(
Beastie Boys - "Body Movin'"
Daft Punk's new song has leaked. Normally I like their stuff, but this song is particularly awesome. My kind of music!
http://idolator.com/7453174/daft-punk-get-lucky-leak-full-real-stream
AC/DC- "Little Lover"
Oh damn, that's a nice solo, and the beat is sick. I haven't heard this one in a long time, but I'm glad that I just did!
ZZ Top - "Tush".
Oh, and I liked most of the new Paramore album. There were some songs that I didn't care for, but some of them are awesome. "Hate to See Your Heart Break" reminds me so much of Stevie Nicks, and I just love songs like "Fast in My Car" and "Anklebiter".
Hell, I even liked a few songs off the newest Fall Out Boy record, including the lead single(which has a ridiculously long name that I can't remember off hand).
What you're thinking of is "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark", quite possible one of the dumbest titles I've ever heard.
It's a Fall Out Boy song title. The only ones worse at song names were Panic At The Disco.
I'm Like a Lawyer How I'm Always Trying to Get You Off. A Little Less 'Sixteen Candles', A Little More 'Touch Me. Yeah, I see what you mean.
Although nothing's worse than this(Nevermind the fact that the actual songs are completely unlistenable): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Can%27t_Spell_Slaughter_Without_Laughter
Reese's Pieces, I Don't Know Who John Cleese Is. What a great name for a song. Oh, and Ravenous Ravenous Rhinos, an obscure Simpsons reference from the Al Jean dark years.
"But the Nuns Are Watching"
"Sh!t It Talks... I'm Out of Here"

Ghost- "Year Zero"
I won't refere to them as Ghost B.C., but damn, this kicks ass. I might do a review when I'm done.

what the fuck is "crunkcore"
I must be way behind the times.
Crunkcore is the infection you get from wiping your ass on rusty metal.
I assume.
Look up Freaxx
Failure- "Saturday Savior"
Can someone explain to me the difference between why there is a distinction between "Metal" and "Metal Core". Every "Metal Core" song I've every heard is either "Screamo" (another genre name that makes no sense) or "Alternative" and has next to nothing in common with "Metal"... So why does it have "Metal" in the title.
I guess what I'm asking is- 'why is the latter a genre name?'
Metalcore tends to have a more pronounced influence towards crust punk, crossover, or melodeath than say, screamo, which is what makes it qualify. A lot of acts in that genre tend to skirt that line, though.
Thou- "Belt of Fire to Guide Me, Cloak of Night to Hide Me"
I guess I just don't hear that distinction. But then I tend to think most genre labels are pointless.
Well I like my post-sludgecore neo-death/doom folk jams
Thou- "Burning Black Coals and Dark Memories"
I wish I got into these guys sooner. Their stuff is incredibly dark, but in all the right ways.
The Raconteurs - "Salute Your Solution"
Peter Wyngarde - Golden Throats (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vY26l5SAxJs)
Toxic Holocaust- "Nuke the Cross"
Jars of Clay - "Flood"
General Surgery- "Rhythmic Epidermal Clamor"
Apparently this was recorded in a morgue. And holy shit, does it slay.
I like the music, but I'm not a fan of screaming vocals 'n stuff.
Mother of God, it's all toilet sounds.
The Screamin' Toilets is a great band name.
lol, yeah
Coliseum- "Fuzzbang"
Beck - "Elevator Music"
Little Esther with Earle Warren Orchestra "The Deacon Moves in"
ELO - "Mr. Blue Sky"
Skip Spence- "Weighted Down (The Prison Song)"
Ooh, I really like this. Yet I have never listened to any of Moby Grape's work.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrCqaugqvL8
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE
Celtic Frost- "Suicidal Winds"
Galaxie 500 - "Summertime".
Rush- "The Big Money"
Nothing wrong with some 80's Rush every now and then.
If it's wrong, I don't want to be right.
I think after Moving Pictures, Rush essentially became a singles band. Their album content became less and less appealing with each release, but what hit the radio was usually strong enough.
Yes- "The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn)"
Eh, I personally don't think they hit that point until Hold Your Fire. I still love Signals, Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows for the most part. But I'd agree with you on everything after. Except Clockwork Angels. I think that works as a whole album as well.
And "The Garden" is still my favorite closer to a Rush album ever. Beautiful song, and if they never make an album again, it'd be a great last song ever.
I can still listen to just about all of Signals and still enjoy it, but the others take more effort. I guess we're just different there.
Well it helps that GUP was my first Rush album after Snakes And Arrows, so I just adore their early 80s stuff in general compared to the rest.
Slayer- "Evil Has No Boundaries"
My night hasn't been as exclusively Slayer-heavy as it should've been, but I definitely took some time to pay tribute to Jeff before I go to Iron Man 3. Their first album still, appropriately, slays.
Florence + The Machine - "Breath of Life"
I first heard this song during the end credits of Snow White and the Huntsman and it kicks ass.
Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco De Lucia- "Short Tales of the Black Forest"
My friend leant me this album. It really is some of the best music on earth.
The Wildbunch - Neurocameraman
Probably my favorite song they recorded pre-Electric Six.
Weird Al - "The Saga Begins".
Accept- "Ahead of the Pack"
Bill Withers

Bob Dylan- "Just Like a Woman"
Blame/thank Carrie for that selection, heh.
Blues Traveler - "But Anyway"
Throbbing Gristle- "E-Coli"
The entire Random Access Memories~
Cathedral- "Equilibrium"
I really do need to check out their last album. It's supposed to be one of their best. A shame that they're gone now, though.
blink-182 - "Going Away to College".
Hiroshima - "Fifths"
Alt-J - "Breezeblocks"
Watchtower- "The Eldritch"
The Doors - "Break On Through (to the Other Side)". =(
I have L.A. Woman set to play in a few minutes. What a shame.
At first I had no clue what you two were going on about, and then I looked it up.
R.I.P. Ray. :(
Such a shame.
T. Rex - Mambo Sun
Blind Guardian- "The Martyr"
Their earlier albums are kind of weird, since they're more thrash-oriented than their later straight-up speed and power metal stuff. Definitely cool regardless.
The Doors - "Peace Frog"
R.I.P. Ray Manzarek.
Judas Priest- "Screaming for Vengeance"
Daft Punk - "Giorgio by Moroder"
Currently listening to Pink Floyd - The Final Cut. Arguably one of the worst albums released by them as well as the album that caused the split of the band from Roger Waters.
It's an interesting listen as a whole, but not one of my favs either.
I like a few tracks from The Final Cut, but overall, yeah, it's a bore.
Currently listening to Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, and next will be The National's Trouble Will Find Me.
Nick Cave and the Bade Seeds- "We Real Cool"
This is a good one!
Robert Randolph & The Family Band - Diane
How I missed this album I have no idea.

Robert Randolph & the Family Band - Deliver Me
Good stuff!
Soundgarden- "Head Down"
Audioslave - "Hypnotize"
Iced Earth- "Violate"
This entire album is a concept album about Spawn, which as a whole is far stronger than any of his actual stories.
Oasis - "Supersonic"
Cro-Mags- "It's the Limit"
ELO - "Sweet Talkin' Woman"

Destruction- "Meet Your Destiny"
The Black Keys - "Tighten Up"
Santana - "Evil Ways"
Blue Murder- "Shouldn't Have Let You Go"
The Replacements - Nightclub Jitters
Godflesh- "Ice Nerveshatter"
My friend lent me his copy of Super Collider, but I'm on the fence about actually listening to it. The word I'm getting is that in his age, Dave seems to be the problem with the band now, and that's just a shame.
Yes - 90125 (entire album)
A great listen from start to finish and sounds even better when cranked up. Still holds up well today. In my opinion, perhaps the pinnacle album of their career. Makes me feel old when I can still remember seeing the original vinyl LP format sold in stores. lol!
I'm listening the hell out of the Skullgirls soundtrack, thank Foggle almighty for letting me know about this one, because I freaking love this stuff :D
Jaaaazzzzzzzz :swoon:
Weezer- "Undone"
Plenty of albums as good as or better than Blue will be made in the years to come, but none as good as it will catch on. It really seems like the only rock that appeals to the masses nowadays is crap like fun. and Mumford & Sons.
Reel Big Fish - Authority Song.
John Mellencamp cover.
So this came in the mail today. :joy:

Damn, that all looks good. :shakeshakeshake:
Atheist- "Your Life's Retribution"
It's a great album, Avaitor. I'm loving the fuck out of it. I never thought I'd be able to say that about a Queensryche album again. Though I wish it were more than 35 minutes.
General opinion seems to be that it's not as good as anything pre-1994, but better than everything from the last 15 years. Personally, I think it stands up along with the early stuff. Can't wait to see what they do next.
Nice, although Decibel only gave it a 6 out of 10. They also gave Tatesryche's album a 4, and claimed that this one is barely a step-up, while Tatesryche isn't AS bad as haters have claimed it to be. I'll probably end up giving both a shot at some point.
Also, Nel, when is the last time you listened to Promise Land? A friend and I gave it a spin a few months ago, and I think it holds up pretty well. The production is weird, but the songs get better as you go along if you give it a full listen, and Tate's voice is still mostly there.
Anyway, Def Leppard- "Another Hit and Run".
Promised Land was my first Queensryche album and the only one I had for many years. "Damaged", "Out Of Mind", the title track, "Real World" on the remastered edition; Love that album. :)
Frequency Unknown has two good songs on it, despite Geoff's warbling muppet vocals. I'll give them credit where it's due. I really like the guitar in "In The Hands Of God" because funny enough, it sounds like it'd be a riff that would fit in with Promised Land. "The Weight Of The World" is alright too. The rest is absolute trash though. Decibel's entitled to their opinion, but I think this s/t album is leagues above the Tateryche mess. I can see why people might not be into it though. But for me, this is the best they've been since Promised Land, and I had a smile on my face the whole time listening to it. Though there are some inflections that Todd does with some of his lines that made me raise an eyebrow, but whatevs.
Yeah, I'm definitely going to check it out.
But seriously, damn. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=67iu6eMGkbI) New really is always better.
Genesis - "Never a Time"
P!nk - "Just Like a Pill".
Slayer- "War Ensemble"
Today has really been a Jeff day for me. I still can't believe that he's gone.
Rush- "Double Agent"
We're getting to 100 pages soon. Might be time to start a new thread up.
Motorhead - "Shine"
Slayer- "live Undead"
Oh, Nel, I listened to new (real) Queensryche, and I really liked it! The bonus live tracks are great too. I'm considering buying the deluxe edition while it's still only $15.

Doesn't it feel nice to be able to say that again?
But yeah, you should totally buy it. I'd love for their sales to be towering over Tate's album.
Are there people who actually like Tatesryche? I'm sure there are a couple of people who will buy it ironically to see if it's in the "so bad, it's good" category, but it always felt like the majority of fans went to the band's side during the falling out. And after footage of his band and the samples from his album came out, whoever wasn't already there jumped on the Todd bandwagon.

Brother Ali is truly the best @ it. Nearly all his albums are perfection.
There are actually people out there who are still on Tate's side. You know, that old "without the original/iconic singer that I grew up listening to, it sucks" mentality. I've seen them. And they're usually just as big of irrational dicks as Tate. I just can't believe that some people still cling to the guy just because he's the original singer and completely ignore the fact that he can't sing anymore. Never mind that they actually like the stuff he made the band put out the past few years.
I do think that most people who follow the whole thing on the internet are on the band's side, though. It'll probably help them that they've put out a better-looking album as well (fancy slipcase on the standard edition, box set of the special edition). I have seen people who like them but just aren't in the know. There was one guy on the band's Facebook page who was actually complaining that he wouldn't buy the self-titled album because he though Frequency Unknown was such a disappointment, and other people in the comments section tried to explain to him that it was two different Queensryches. I found that pretty funny, though I think that's the kind of thing Tate was aiming for.
Iron Maiden- "Sanctuary" (Maiden England version)
After I'm done with ME, I'm going to put on The Final Frontier and Killers. Does this tell you what kind of night this is for me?
Robert Randolph & The Family Band - Going In The Right Direction
I found Unclassified and Colorblind for cheap. If you're a fan of Classic Rock, Blues, Soul, Funk, Gospel, and Alternative you really can't go wrong with these two albums. They're really good summer albums, too.
I hope you guys don't mind if I close this down and start a new thread up. 100 pages always seems like the best time to restart.
